oh, great. what an inopportune time for something to go wrong. he’d just parted from the doll, and already, he was having to slam himself back into it. the magnificent light show from before was forgone with but a small flash taking place instead. the puppet was standing tall and lively once again, but this time, the look upon its eyes —— geno’s eyes —— was menacing.
❝ ack— okay, is that one of those demon beasts you were talking about? ❞ his fingers curled tightly ‘round the opposite forearm. already, the free hand was detaching from his wrist, and in its place was the long barrel of… some kind of fire arm.
❝ listen, we’ll catch up later, ❞ he barked over his shoulder, quick to make haste towards the source of the ruckus. ❝ go seek some shelter! i’ll take care of this! ❞
“No way! Kirby could be in trouble!” Fumu argued, also heading toward the village with him. Hiding was not her style!
As they got closer, she could hear the shouts of many villagers as they fled, followed by another explosion. Once in the village main square, she could see the attackers- what looked like tall twin jesters in blue, wearing floppy hats and pointy shoes, each with identical blank smiles and holding bombs in their hands.
The community center and police station were already a burning heap, and it looked like the jester demons were searching for something. Fumu scanned the area, hiding just out of sight of them.

🍃🏹➳ “Just Huntress is fine with me,” she replied before awkwardly kneeling down in order to at least be able to look at them without craning her neck all the way down.
When the pink one approached, she held her hand out, not in the form of a handshake, but more in the fashion of how one did when an animal approached and you let it smell your hand before trying to touch it. Cute kids.
“I suppose there is a certain science to druidic magic, yeah,” she said. “It takes a fundamental and deep knowledge of animals and plants in order to make it work– almost a spiritual kind of vibe, ya feel me? So you’re a bit of a botanist yourself then, I take it?”
“Magic? Like...” She’d seen a lot of weird things, but not a lot of what she’d consider ‘magic’. The way she saw it, ‘magic’ was just something science hadn’t been able to explain yet.
“Well, botany isn’t my personal specialty, but I do like to research how the ecosystem functions and the interaction between plants and animals.” She wondered if the woman really had leaves for hair, or if it was just unusual headgear, and couldn’t help but stare in curiosity. “I guess there is this one guy who knows a lot about plants but... he’s kind of a jerk.”
Kirby meanwhile eagerly put his nubs in Huntress’s hand anyway, smiling up at her. “Poyo! Haan-tess!”

Well this is just dull. Who goes to sleep just to dream about school? What an absolute nutcase of a child. That’s like being excited to go to prison. Not that you heard that from him, school was a very important part of any to-be-indoctrinated child’s life.
Nightmare was like a theater tech; the man behind the curtain, looking at the script and holding tight to the ropes attached to the sandbags that held the set pieces in place. But first, he had to, well, read the script and understand the characters enough to set this play from a typical reading to a catastrophic disaster of a trainwreck. A real theatrical nightmare.
He wants it to be all in-character and just the worst possible thing that could ever happen. Because what could be better than taking candy from a baby? Child? Same thing.
He pulls on the clouds from behind the blackened sky, moving the winds to blow them faster, and tugging the dreary atmosphere of rain down upon the land. It seemed to be instant, but well, there was the excuse of a cloud or two (that he’d placed there) conveniently already above them. A change of scenery to get them away from the terrible classroom would be nice.
The Cappy children had cried out, covering their heads and fleeing from the sudden downpour, leaving all their notebooks, textbooks, and various other things behind for her to try to clean up and salvage. But surely she wouldn’t do that.
It’s just a prelude, Nightmare had told himself, he’d get to do something more interesting soon. He just needed to ease into the torment, and it’d be much more sweet.
Fumu sighed and grumbled to herself as she gathered up her teaching materials, thinking how nice it would be to have an indoor schoolhouse that wasn’t, you know, actually a trap set by Dedede. Or maybe they should just set up a tent...
However, the sudden shower triggered a different memory for her, and she found herself looking around the scene for a familiar face and a kind voice to tell them it was just a sun shower that would pass quickly...
Granted that was a dream she had a lot, but reruns were always nice.

🍃🏹➳ “Hey,” she said, turning her head to the girl and giving a casual wave. These two looked much different than the kids that had ran off earlier, almost like a different species, although the girl appeared to have some similarities to the cappy kids she had seen before, the little pink one looked almost like they could be the same race as her friend Meta Knight.
“I didn’t mean to scare your friends off earlier, if that’s what your here about,” she said. “You can call me Huntress Wizard, as the name implies, I’m a Druid, came to study some of the plant and animal life here.” She wasn’t sure how much the people here knew about magic, but for her particular type of magic, it often intertwined with nature, plants even more specifically.
“You guys aren’t used to strangers around here, I take it?” While she hadn’t gone into town, she did notice it was rather small from what she saw in the distance.
“A... druid?” Fumu said. She wasn’t familiar with that term, but the next comment caught her attention. “Oh! Is it like a scientist or researcher? I know all about the plants and animals here if you’re interested in that...”
She looked to Kirby, who still looked pretty keen on approaching the leafy woman. “Actually we tend to get newcomers around here a lot recently... Maybe not quite as tall as you but...” She shrugged a little. “I’m Fumu, and this is Kirby. Nice to meet you, um... Is your name just Huntress or is Wizard part of your name too...?”
“Kaabii~”
pinkorb:
Kirby blinked a few times, trying to process that question and such. Well, yes, he had been talking since… Man, he couldn’t even remember, he was babbling probably like… A pretty good amount of years back, but Kirby was a fast learner. I mean, at least this one, was…
“I’m… Kirby, poyo?” He squeaks out, still having that signature noise, though it seemed to be more of a catchphrase, here, “I donno, nothing big, I sometimes decide to hang out on other planets sometimes. Get out a bit.”
“Okay then, ‘Kirby’... Do you know who *I* am?” she asked. She figured she’d play along for a bit, still pretty sure this was some imposter.
sternenteile:
❝ well, as they say, ‘the more, the merrier!’ ❞ she had an ally in him, that much was certain. the whole planet did, perhaps not including this apparent king. what sort of ruler would instate monsters to keep the townsfolk in line? only a tyrant would do such a thing. even bowser, in all of his faults, kept his kingdom in order with some amount of respect. while brash and domineering towards his people, he genuinely cared for them.
❝ well, if we’re to help each other out, i ought to tell you more about me. there is a lot of ground to cover… or i suppose i should say air. actually, no—— not even, given the vacuum of space! hahaha! ❞ ahh, good old space jokes. ❝ i suppose now is the best time to start, and i believe i know just the way. be careful with your eyes; this could get bright! ❞
and indeed, it was, for once eyes of the doll slid shut, light began to leak from every nook, cranny, and orifice. a pillar of radiance surrounded him, enough to blind someone if they were not wary (and such was good reason for his fair warning). it all happened so quick. in one moment, the toy was enveloped in curtains of white, and in the next… it was much tinier, fallen to the ground with all life sapped from it.
ah, but fumu was not alone! out came a tiny star from within the doll’s mouth, floating gracefully before her eyes with his jolliest smile. there was little else to discern him from any other star spirit beyond the ginger tuft atop his head, interestingly similar to the puppet he was possessing.
❝ haha— yo! ❞ he waved one starry stub. ❝ check it out! this is my real body! ❞
She looked away, covering her eyes as advised as the doll began to glow, momentarily worried what was about to happen. Her eyes first went to the now crumpled puppet, and then...
She gasped at the glowing little star before her. “You... kinda look like a Warp Star,” she said. Just, with a face. Could there be any relation? She did often wonder if the Warp Star had some sentience to it... “You really are a star warrior then!” She couldn’t help but grin.
This was, of course, when the sound of a loud crash came from the village in the distance, followed by a plume of smoke.
(I’ve been spending my evenings this week consoling my poor dog who’s terrified of fireworks. She gets very upset if I sit at the computer instead of cuddling her. I’m hoping people around here will finally get tired of blowing things up soon, so then I can get back to creative endeavors!)
sternenteile:
well, being so casual certainly threw him off then, not from himself, but from the ease of which she spoke of an entity that controlled the entire universe. granted, geno knew what a falsehood that was, nothing but hot air. when he could so easily watch as planets were formed from baby stars in his own backyard, he felt he knew more about the function of the universe than some company that made monsters. how pathetic was that? it was like this nightmare fellow was dying to be mocked throughout the cosmos.
❝ wait until mama gets a load of this bozo of darkness, ❞ he quietly muttered, thinking his voice was quieter than it ended up coming out. hastily, he added, ❝ oh, i mean—— that is terrible! if it’s any reassurance, we from above know how the universe functions, and some corporate guy sure isn’t on top of it. he must be trying to intimidate you, and… ❞
brows lifted with obvious amazement. this girl had incredibly composure and strength about her. it was impressive! it reminded him of when he was but a young, stalwart star —— although he’d daresay his own head was way into the clouds.
❝ … it seems that it isn’t working. good on you! ❞ it seemed even the most dire-sounding situations had a silver lining. ❝ i don’t suppose you know where this loser happens to be operating, do you? i’m going to guess not. he probably wouldn’t be a problem any more if you and your buddies knew, right? ❞
ah… she honestly reminded him so much of mallow, and such reminiscence made his weary heart grow fonder. surely, this was no hopeless mission.
The girl giggled a little, overhearing the bozo comment.
‘We from above?’ She tilted her head a little at his wording. Just what was this guy? She’d been studying him closer, and he was definitely made of wood with ball joints. But then, she knew talking trees, and talking swords, so a talking wooden doll it didn’t strike her as too terribly odd. “I see... I’d like to know more about where you’re from too. More allies would help out a lot.”
She shook her head at his question about location. “No idea. But to be honest we don’t really have the power to do much now. Nightmare wiped out all the Star Warriors and other soldiers except a few. All we can do now is fight the things King Dedede orders until Kirby’s strong enough.” She cast a dour glance up at the multi-towered castle on the hill. It was endlessly frustrating to have to put up with Dedede’s schemes, but she couldn’t yet see an alternative. “Maybe we could find Sir Meta Knight, he knows a lot more about this stuff.”
@fumusama
🍃🏹➳ The stranger was over a head taller than Dedede and could easily be considered a giant among the locals of Cappy Town. In fact, some of the children had ran into the village claiming to have seen a ‘giant tree monster’ in the meadow, but when asked what it was destroying, they couldn’t say, considering said monster was simply there examining the flowers and plants.
In fact, the monster didn’t really seem all that monsterous at all, once seen up close; rather, she looked like a tall, alien woman, with leafy green hair and (currently sawed down for convinience) deer-like antlers adorning the top of her head.
The adult’s viper-green eyes slowly shifted in the direction where she heard a presence approaching, but said nothing, thinking it would simply be best to let the girl make the first move in interaction. The last kids had ran off to go warn the rest of the town when she held her hand up to wave at them, after all.
After a few months free of Nightmare’s schemes, Fumu had really hoped the era of giant monsters appearing in the village was over. Of course they couldn’t be that lucky. She’d rushed out to the meadow after hearing the frightened children, Kirby trailing behind her curiously.
The being truly did look like a tree from a distance, all brown tones and leafy crown. Fumu studied them carefully as she got closer. The ‘monster’ looked like something from a fantasy book, she thought.
Oh, and they were looking at her. She gulped and tried to smile. “Um... h-hello?” she said. “Stay back, Kirby,” she whispered to her friend.
“Poyo!” Kirby squeaked, much more relaxed about the whole situation, as usual.
sternenteile:
a new one every week? how in the universe did they not detect this sooner? hah. perhaps eldstar was too busy blowing a gasket over something trite to notice. the benevolence of his so-called ‘higher authorities’ only maintained itself to a massive fault —— nay, multiple faults. that old coot needed to chill.
ah, but there’s no use in stewing in bitterness over how systemically flawed their system was. at least he had the grace of dealing with someone who knew what she was talking about. it was such a shame, too, as she sounded rather young. he could have been wrong, but if this was a child going through these sorts of attacks… that’d be downright vile. nothing quite ticked him off like innocent kids being put in harm’s way. the nerve.
❝ i’m sorry that we hadn’t investigated this sooner, ❞ he solemnly offered. his head bowed in a display of shame. ❝ you must have been suffering for far too long. it’s because of this ‘holy nightmare co.’, isn’t it? i can’t say i’ve ever heard of it —— but it already sounds kind of gnarly— er, dangerous. ❞ careful now. he’s on the job. he can’t be so casual, lest he gives eldstar a coronary. the consequences of having such relaxed vernacular.
“It’s okay! You don’t have to apologize,” Fumu immediately assured him. His distressed reaction looked real enough at least. “If it makes you feel better, we do have some warriors around here to help. Like Kirby, and sometimes Sir Meta Knight. They take care of the problem before it gets too bad.” She carefully watched to see if he had a reaction to either name.
She did wonder how someone couldn’t have ever heard of Holy Nightmare, but reminded herself she’d only learned about them recently herself. If the man’s casual word choice bothered her she didn’t show it. “So... well they’re basically a big company that controls the universe.”
She folded her arms and thought back to how Kabu had described it. “The guy in charge, Nightmare, creates demon beasts, and sends them all over the place to cause havoc. He calls himself the ‘Emperor of Darkness’ and everything. And he really wants to destroy Star Warriors in particular, which is why we get so many here, I suppose.”
Your blog is lovely!!
( Aw thank you! :3 )
I'm sure this dream will be like any other. Now that there's nothing left to worry about in real life, no fears to witness in the constant chaos that is Dedede's reign (other than Dedede himself, of course), the world of dreams would bring this poor child great solace. Alas. Tonight of all nights, Lady Luck turned her back, and a parasite wormed its way into her sleeping mind ever so discretely, to observe what she thought was a lovely dream. How nice it'll be to warp in his evil claws..
It was certainly one of her nicer dreams up til that point.
...and leave it to Fumu to actually enjoy dreams about school. She was a teacher again in her little outdoor classroom on a beautiful day, but this time all her students were just so polite and attentive, and everyone was getting good grades! Even Kirby was doing well, clumsily writing out his ABCs.
“Good job, Kirby!” she said. “You get another sticker!” “Poyo!”
“I think it’s almost lunchtime so we can all take a break...” Fumu looked up at the clear skies, checking the position of the sun. She squinted. Were those gray clouds on the horizon? Hopefully it wouldn’t rain today.
sternenteile:
the galaxy soldier army? perhaps they’re older than his time, or he’s never needed to touch stone on the subject due to relevance (or lack thereof), but… he doesn’t know of them. to say that he is that sort of fighter would be a far cry from the truth, even if he is one of star haven’s more revered sentries, guardian of the star road itself.
❝ you could say that i am a star warrior, but—— i think you’re talking about something a bit different. i’m not so much part of an army, but a faction of stars dedicated to intergalactic protection and the handling of good wishes. ❞ that said, she seems to be aware of more than even he is, and that has geno’s interest piqued. he’s going to take this as her being receptive to his questions, so he hopes she won’t oppose to a long chat.
❝ it’s kind of a lot. i’ll fill you in, but first—— just call me geno, ❞ for simplicity’s sake. would a pop star resident even be able to speak in his ancient star tongue? probably not. even some of the fledgling stars from home have trouble with it nowadays. ❝ second, you call them demon beasts? is that what’s going on? multiple entities? what can you tell me about them? ❞
“So a star, but not a Star Warrior?” she mused, and smiled. With all the odd things she’d seen in the last year or so, it didn’t seem too farfetched. “Well, as long as your intentions are good. It’s nice to meet you, Geno.”
It was definitely something to bring up with Sir Meta Knight later. She took a quick look around in nearby high places to see if he was already around, but saw no sign of him.
At the question on demon beasts she sighed.
“Oh I could tell you all about them... I’m way too familiar. I think we see a new one every week.” She wouldn’t even be surprised if one was being ordered as she spoke. “I don’t suppose you’re familiar with Holy Nightmare Co.?”
pinkorb:
The puff perked up at his name as he turned his attention to the other. T. This person didn’t look familiar. Kirby remembered faces pretty well. Names came second. He understood the concept of people hearing of his exploits, but…
“I don’t uhm. Mind… Dinner, poy.” He squeaks out. “What’s the occasion, though?”
Yeah that’s not your Kirby, Fumu.
“Did you just talk?” she said incredulously. He certainly sounded like Kirby, and looked like him, aside from the increased size.
She was immediately on the defense, taking a step back. Was this some weird duplicate or shapeshifter? “Okay. If you can talk, how about you tell me what’s going on? Who are you?”
sternenteile:
ah, of course, the townsfolk were sure to be curious of a new visitor, especially if there was any reason to hold suspicion. after all, a disturbance of some kind had recently been detected by the astute and punctual skolar, something he himself had been sent to investigate. while relations with the star council were… rocky, at best, geno was never to be swayed from his job.
therefore, here he was, and here she was, this young stranger. here, he’d just been scouting out the area, and already, he’d been discovered! ( it wasn’t as though he’d gone out of his way to make himself hidden anyhow. )
❝ aha! you must be one of the cappies i’ve heard about! ❞ not quite, actually, but he was none-the-wiser. ❝ hello there! apologies for just kind of… showing up, but i am here on important business. it definitely concerns all of you, but you shouldn’t have to worry about anything much. that’s why i’m here, after all. ❞
thoughtful expression came with the cradling of his chin between his fingers. ❝ sorry if this is a little, uh… sudden, but i’ve caught wind of some nasty creatures popping up around here lately. i’ve been sent to do a little detective work and report back home with what i’ve found. would it be too much for me to ask you a few questions? no pressure, promise. ❞
She smirked a bit at being called a Cappy. Despite being in a completely different biological kingdom from her fungal neighbors, let alone different species, she had grown used to the confusion. Though she could go on for hours about the curious similarities between animalia and fungi if you let her...
Nasty creatures? "Oh! You must mean the demon beasts!” she said, perking up. “I don’t suppose you’re a Star Warrior? Or part of the Galaxy Soldier Army?” Wouldn’t that be wonderful? She smiled. “My name’s Fumu, I live in the castle over there... And you are?”
@pinkorb
“Oh there you are, Kirby! I’ve been looking everywhere for you. Dinner’s soon, you know...” Fumu got about 10 ft from the pink puff when she noticed something was... off. He was quite a bit bigger than she remembered, at least double the height. Had he found more of those chips or had a growth spurt?
“Kirby?”
