when you put the manic pixie dream girl fries on the born sexy yesterday burger with a side of fridged female character soda
You know what would actually be interesting to see? A straight character who has to go through self-acceptance. Who has a crush that doesn’t work out. Who has to accept that the person they love is their Tammy — not their endgame. Someone who doesn’t get a romance at all, who doesn’t “win” love in the end, but still ends up fulfilled: with friends, with family, with self-love. Alone, but not lonely. Loved anyway.
That would be new. That would be meaningful. And that would be relatable to everyone. Because self-acceptance and self-love are not queer-exclusive themes. They’re human themes.
So why is it always the queer character who has to carry this lesson? Why is it always us who are told that love isn’t guaranteed, that longing is enough, that growth means letting go? Why do queer characters have to be “realistic,” restrained, bittersweet, while straight characters are allowed to have the most unrealistic, rushed, fairytale romances with people they met five minutes ago?
How does that logic even work? Straight people get fantasy, destiny, grand love stories. Queer people get “realistic representation,” which somehow always means pain, restraint, and solitude. As if happiness for us would be unrealistic. As if wanting more would be too much.
It’s exhausting. And it says way more about the writers than it ever will about us
Will Byers I never once doubted you. What a beautifully written character you are.❤️🩹
I can't stop thinking about stranger things, this show is INCREDIBLE!!!! I can't even organize my thoughts in a coherent way. I love reading all your takes on here tho<3
This song fits them so well!!!! 😩 ofc whenever I get obsessed with a series I can't just draw a single fanart. No. No no no. I have to make an entire comic about it.
byler endgame, amen 🙏🙏🙏🙏
When I don't make eye contact it is "rude" and "undermining your authority" but when I do it's like "What are you?" And "Why do you have so many eyes?" And "Why can't I stop speaking, I don't want to tell you that" smh
I figured I'd draw this scene from this fic of mine

Eyes
Alternate versions below cut, click for better quality so on and so forth
I had A Lot of fun with these! I absolutely love drawing eyes and I also recently found a great new ibispaint brush so fuck yeah
My jmart brainrot is heavy this week
(and I might do another one of thses w Daisy, and maybe Melanie or Georgie depending on how I'm feeling)
Robin: Nance...
Nancy: Yes, I still love you. Yes, I would still love you if you were a worm. No, I don't want to break up. No, you don't annoy me.
Robin: Thank you
gay
You'll never guess which scene is Nancy reacting to Steve volunteering to go with her and throwing his keys to Robin vs her reacting to Robin saying "This is stupid" and doesn't see Nancy as a damsel in distress and Robin walking towards her and then stop besides her
You'll never guess which scene is Nancy reacting to Steve confessing his love for her vs her reacting to Robin confirming their new friendship
You'll never guess which scene is Nancy reacting to Robin talking about Steve vs Steve talking about Robin
this is what my brain shows when I hear the bridge of This Is The Killer Speaking and I feel like it's only fair to share it with tumblr the class
Byler Is the Narrative. Mileven Is the Distraction
Stranger Things wants you to look at the fireworks.
But the story lives in the flicker.
Mileven is the kiss.
Byler is the aftermath.
Mileven is the plot beat.
Byler is the emotional arc.
Mileven is “I love you” because the script demands it.
Byler is “I didn’t say it back” because the character can’t.
This isn’t about ships. It’s about storytelling.
And the story keeps circling back to Will.
Let’s break it down:
Narrative Weight: Will’s feelings drive the emotional climax of Season 4. El’s relationship with Mike drives a subplot.
Visual Language: Mileven scenes are staged like teen drama. Byler scenes are framed like confessions.
Symbolism: El gets a makeover. Will gets a metaphor.
Performance: Noah acts like he’s bleeding. Finn acts like he’s confused.
Continuity: Mileven resets every season. Byler builds.
Byler is the thesis: the unresolved tension, the emotional truth, the quiet center of the storm.
Mileven is the distraction: the noise, the spectacle, the thing they hope will keep you from noticing the real story.
If you think Byler is just subtext, you haven’t been watching. You’ve been listening. And the show’s loudest moments aren’t always the most honest.
