I wanted to make an Adrian design, both in general and for my AU lmao

some headcanons and AU context under the cut:

Adrian is a little bit older than Rocky

where he's temperamental and extroverted, they're a soothing balm of a personality. Calm, patient and very good at rubberducking others with their emotional problems

they're more quiet and get very stuck in their own mind sometimes - also hyperfixate on things and kinda need to be dragged out of a project by force on occasion. Their quietness tends to intimidate those that don't know them very well, but they're pretty much happy to just sit and listen. Rocky was always the more social one for both of them.

they're passionate about studying erid's different biomes, so they very easily hit it off with Grace, who's more than happy to learn more about the climates and lifeforms on erid AND can infodump about the interesting differences on earth in return

After Grace and Rocky leave Erid for their ambassador trip, eridian scientists keep testing with the stem cell cloning and gene editing tech they used to make Rocky's body, and also work on improving the consciousness transfer times... and Adrian, who's both very curious about earth and humans and wanting to maybe tag along with Rocky and Grace the next time a trip like this is being done, volunteers as test subject.

Between Adrian being the lead manager of the biodome team (so doing this would allow hands on research on earth) *and* being the ambassador's mate, it's seen as only sensible.

what if your name was ryland grace and you had like one friend that you got dinner with once a week (at the same time at the same restaurant in the same booth where you order the same exact thing every week btw) (btw you live on a huge fuckoff big boat now and your phone is 10000 years old so you probably have to message her on a public computer that you share with 384747392664 naval officers and scientists and hr reps and security team members and government officials and whoever else. using fuckinnnnn facebook messenger or whatever. if you're still in touch at all) and that was the only meaningful positive not solely work-related social interaction you really had aside from the gaggle of middle schoolers you teach and maybe the occasional staff lounge chat. and your peers all find you grating or standoffish or childish and you're someone everyone has to "get used to" and you keep putting your foot in your mouth when you're having important conversations and many people in your new (boat) home do actually like you or find you maybe. endearingly strange but almost no one is actually properly close to you. and then the people you HAVE grown to trust deeply over the last few YEARS you've been working closely with one another yeah man they've been making life-altering decisions for you behind your back that they're saying are for your own benefit and the greater good. is that cool or what. and also you very literally have no life outside of your work and you have strong emotional responses to everything and you can't shut the fuck up about star trek or all the cool fun facts you know and you keep getting so absorbed in exciting science things that you forget to sleep for several days on end without even realizing it and the first person you really truly connect with for real this time is an alien from actual outer space that communicates atypically (for reason of he is an alien.) and you help save all of humanity but you still feel more at home the day you leave humanity behind forever than you ever did when you were living among other human beings. what then man. what then huh

if you wanted to know just how closely im looking at PHM to find all the little logos and flags?

i just identified the fucking whiteboard markers that are on the ship.

the whiteboard markers used are specifically the Lumocolor Whiteboard Pen marker 351 B! Produced by Staedtler, a German company. They come in a 6 pack in varying colors and are a chisel tipped marker.

Reasons they were probably selected (in-universe, because idk if anyone on set actually thought that hard about this):

Fast-drying (no smearing things in space)

Low-odor (you don't want super smelly markers in a space ship)

Long use (will last for a long time meaning less are needed to be sent)

Refillable (better to send refills than lots of markers)

Made of 97% recycled plastic (sure they blew up the antarctic and paved the sahara but at least theyre trying to use eco-friendly products!)

"Airplane safe" ("automatic pressure equalization prevents pen from leaking on board aircraft". good enough for an airplane? good enough for a space ship)

You can’t tell me Grace doesn’t stim by repeating Rocky-isms or just in general speaking the way the computer translates Rocky’s speech.

Grace starts talking to himself like “Grace do science. Grace do science yes yes yes!” Or he starts doing Rocky’s jazz hands of happiness. Echoing Rocky’s spoken Eridian words. Even just putting “question” or “statement” at the end of his sentences.

The man’s echolalia would go haywire with Rocky and you can’t convince me otherwise

Definitely helps in his learning the Eridian language too

When Grace dies he asks for his body to be turned to ashes, and then into a statue. The statue has him sitting, legs crossed, arms curled slightly, with his palms on his knees. He says in his final message there is a reason for this very specific positioning, but that he can't say what it is.

Time continues forward. Rocky and Adrian grow and change. They move house a couple of times. Rocky changes career from engineer, to inventor, to scientist, to diplomat, to teacher. Adrian picks up a new hobby every few decades. They explore other parts of Erid they've never seen. They meet humans on more than one occasion, but there's something about it... Something not quite right. The Eridian mind can never forget, and no matter how much time passes, Rocky feels it. Missing Grace. His human.

And then time really does move on. Rocky walks stiffly, Adrian sleeps for weeks at a time, they both eat less often due to how draining it is.

And one day, the temperature is perfect. Adrian wakes earlier than they have in years. The warmth loosens Rocky's arthritis, the wind is quiet that day, and sound can carry for miles because of it. The soil is quiet, ready, resonant. And they both know.

They go for a walk, take a dip in the sea, attend a choir in a crystal cave. And then, without fanfare, when no one else is around, they visit Grace. And Rocky climbs into his stone lap. And Adrian curls their body around Grace too. Just like Grace did hundreds of years ago, they let go, no scream, no pain, just peace and togetherness. Too beautifully intertwined to ever untangle.

And there they sit, three stones, for the rest of time.

I love Rocktiz, but I can't draw him with human Grace because I'm just too attached to the interspecie bond between Grace and Rocky. It's the soul of the movie and its so beautiful.
