Women Knit Custom Sweaters for Elephants

We’ve seen Menswear Dog. And tailors make bespoke tweed suits for horses. This year, women in India are making colorful sweaters for rescued elephants. The Independent reports:

Women in a village near the Wildlife SOS Elephant Conservation and Care Centre in the northern city of Mathura reportedly began producing the colourful, pyjama-like garments after staff at the centre warned temperatures were approaching sub-zero at night.

The conservation centre takes in rescued elephants who have previously suffered chronic neglect and beatings from cruel handlers.

Kartick Satyanarayan, founder of the centre, said it was important to protect the formerly abused elephants from the cold.

“It is important to keep our elephants protected from the bitter cold during this extreme winter, as they are weak and vulnerable having suffered so much abuse making them susceptible to ailments such as pneumonia,“ she told the Times of India.

"The cold also aggravates their arthritis which is a common issue that our rescued elephants have to deal with.”

Depression Sucks (the life out of me)

Yet another day I wake up and just seem lost. Lost in my mind and lost in my body. My mind hurts, terribly so. I’ve been depressed (majorly) for as far back as I can remember. Yes, I’ve had little moments of pleasure, perhaps even happiness over the years, but they have really been few and far between. Most of my life, especially since my early teens, I’ve lived each day wishing that I didn’t need to live another one.

Most people have no clue how to understand this. At least most people that I have in my life. I can’t really think of many people that truly understand how I feel. There have been some over the years, but most of them have gone to the other side already, whether naturally or otherwise.

I’ve tried just about everything under the sun to get better. Medications, therapy, meditation, religion, exercise, art and the list goes on and on but nothing ever seems to really help and I’m becoming more and more tired of trying and having nothing work.

I have noticed over the years that no matter how many people surround me and say or show that they love me, I still feel so terribly alone.

A while ago, I penned a fairly angry response to something circulating on the internet – the 21 Habits of Happy People. It pissed me off beyond belief, that there was an inference that if you weren’t Happy, you simply weren’t doing the right things.

comfortably (limp and) numb

The title of this post is probably more exciting than the post itself, but i just wanted to share that today I'm having another one of those days where I am a complete fog, various parts of my body go numb and limp for a while and then wake up just as unexpectedly as they went to sleep in the first place. 

The fog annoys me a bit as my vision is awful on these days. It's almost as if I have dirty smudged & scratched lenses over my eyeballs. The sight problem usually stays with me all day on days like this, but it also comes and goes on it's own throughout the day unexpectedly. 

Having to go up and down a spiral staircase repeatedly all day with a limp (dead) leg,  foggy vision, an overwhelming feeling of cloudy, marshmallow like, well everything for the most part. The only thing that really tends to bother me to the point of pain is my joints.

My fingers start to curl in like claws or something and feel as though they are attached with a rubber band every time you try to use one  and pull it back from it's crab or lobster imitation. My hips bother me a great deal on these comfortable numb days and the best thing for me to do is to stay off of them - meaning staying in bed most of the time and changing position repeatedly throughout the day. 

I try to make the best of these days by limiting my movement and relaxing, reading something, meditating, napping and getting lost in the inter-web. I have started to look at these days as the way my body is telling me that I need a break.

oh what a feeling

I've been having a bad week or so do to some health issues including another tooth problem. Have to call to schedule having the sucker ripped out of my head now that I'm on antibiotics. Starting to feel a bit closer to my "normal" but still a bit wonky.

I need to feel better as I have so much planned for futtatinni and I need to get it going. Watch here as we'll be shaking things up a bit over the next few weeks.
