Still got a lot of season left to go for people to be acting like it’s already got Olivia’s name on it! I will say Liv has been hooping fr and Cheryl knows how to get the best out of her players. Azzi’s biggest hurdle is Jose and Arike tbh but hopefully they can get it together 😓

What’s crazy is the only other player they would double on the wings is Azzi. So I don’t understand why you don’t play them together. If you double Paige it allows Azzi to be wide open. When Azzi is on the floor her defender can’t leave her for a second that’s why there are so many opportunities for other players. Idk what Jose is thinking like truly.

Jose actually has a very good coaching staff. They need to do an intervention on this homie. As an ex-hooper (or for any athlete in general, I would imagine) I can say that there's not too much worse than having a big ego coach who talks in vague but wants the player to hear in specifics 😂 Saying there's selfishness in this locker room is such a shit thing to say because the most selfish people will think "He can't be talking about me" and the least selfish people will think "How can I be more selfless" The only thing worse is to have a bun wearing word salad vague-ass communicator that also wants each player to hear the specifics in the word salad... But all is not lost with Jose... not yet. But he needs to be humbled and his coaching staff can assist with that.

PS - I hope that Azzi is not experiencing any pain/soreness/swelling in her knee today. She played extremely weill last night in her 20 mins. She has played 38 minutes out of 120 possible regular season minutes and showed up most folks on the squad already.

Our new dude has not felt heat about his in game decisions down at USF. Nobody watching that team other than friends and fam and a few kids enrolled in the school. But this? This? He's gonna have to answer some things…every game … until that line-up - starting and finishing - games includes some iteration of Azzi and Paige and 3 other folks who better recognize they're playing with Azzi and Paige.

Interesting use of language regarding Paige - demands? - to be off the ball? Presumptuous statement. Jose has made it clear HE wants her more off the ball. This start proves that Paige isn't demanding anything. She wants to play both.

I'm now not convinced that she wasn't going to start on Saturday v the Fever with Arike and Paige at point. They knew her knee flared up after that Aces game, so he switched paths immediately rather than a guessing game. Her play against the Aces, (being guarded by A'ja at various times, defended Jackie straight up) - was still very very good. Her movement was good that night but then she came out. Prediction: If she moves well tonight - she starts vs the Mystics. (Jose I am giving your ass grace, homie. Don't fuck this up)

Oh brother. Another UConn mystery time frame. This is what's frustrating. Folks (me especially) were ready to rip this coach's head off for not playing her or running her through screens on Saturday for open looks, all the while he was likely restricting minutes and restricting her movement. So his answers were very short, bordering on rude, when asked about it because he couldn't say much else. If you've followed all this, then you know his tone about her totally changed. She went from being special to just another one of 5 good guards they have on their roster 🙄 The shift was dramatic. I was ready to punch this dude for the obvious tone shift. It was too fucking weird. But... he was/is guarding a potential medical issue. He didn't know if he really had her services or if she would miss a bunch of time so he was glazing the other players. It came across so odd. Now it makes sense. So... maybe he's not the a-hole I was assuming over all of this. But we also aren't going to get any useful info until she's back on the court b/c the Wings are notorious for not sharing. I ain't apologizing to him yet though...

I’ve been saying Jose needs media training so badly. You’d think Azzi kicked one of his dogs the way he talks about her. He seems irritated by the attention all this has gotten but there’s no way they couldn’t have anticipated the reaction. It’s crazy because he was always laughing with Azzi up until game one and now he’s aggressively weird about her.

All I'm getting from this DC v Toronto game is that I'm thrilled Jose Fernandez is coaching Dallas and that core. Curt fired Koclanes immediately after Brondello was not brought back in NY. She interviewed with Dallas and I'm thrilled she wanted to start anew in Toronto. She is running the most unimaginative sets on offense that even one of my Grans could sort it out and defend it. That first half was some pedestrian shit... Toronto will have a long season if things don't change
