the fact that gerard was straight up in the closet about being such a riot grrrl fanatic in the early years. the scene wasn’t open enough to allow for them to admit that their favorite bands were largely women-fronted - helium, sleater, bikini kill, dresden dolls, etc. - so they only talked about the misfits and morrissey, and very rarely bowie if the interviewer seemed safe enough.

but looking back on it, the way gerard dressed and their stage mannerisms…even before they admitted it in 2014 it’s so obvious their biggest style and performance inspirations were riot grrrls.
