She doesn’t notice him for quite some time, just letting herself feel the cold seep into her bones. She’s shivering but she can’t feel her shore muscles anymore, can barely feel her hands. But it’s a numbness she welcomes. It’s familiar, something she knows. It’s the first comfort she’s had since she got here, and it’s a strange feeling to find it in something that should be making her uncomfortable. She opens her eyes and for the first time sees the boy sitting on the other side of the lake. At first she feels annoyance eating at her, wondering why he seems to be following her everywhere today. But she doesn’t have the energy to confront him, so she lets it go. For now.
She sighs and steps out, slipping her pants down and her shoes back on. She should be getting back, it’s late and she does need to get some sleep. She spares a glance at the boy–she realizes she doesn’t even know his name–before heading back to the bunks. I wonder what he was thinking about…

❛ … ❜
Still, his gaze would flick back to her. If only because–aside from the trees–she was the only other moving thing out by the lake. The loons weren’t even out tonight; he couldn’t hear their eerie cries, haunting laughter, from anywhere. Maybe that was what felt so strange. The loons weren’t out. …he wondered if that meant something, like a storm was on its way in.
--Ah. His thoughts jostle. He’d been spotted.
Gunter remains just as still as his surroundings as she sends a glance his way. He stares back, unblinking, as she wades back out of the water to land. Seems she was already on her way back to the barracks… good. He’d remain out here a while longer. He wasn’t mentally tired. At least, not yet.
She sneaks back into the barracks, tip-toeing down the hall and making sure to avoid any of the squeaky boards. She had noted them when she had first snuck out. She’s always had a knack for remembering things, her father had drilled that into her. She makes her way back into her room and crawls into the bottom bunk, making sure not to wake the other girls. Especially not Mikasa, she wasn’t in the mood for her glare or her sass. Not that she helped with that, she did give it right back to her. Annie sighs and strips down, crawling into bed and pulling the covers over her head. Her hands still hurt and her legs ache, but it was a familiar sensation and comforted her in a way. This was what she was used to, this was something she knew. Still though... What was he doing out there? What was he thinking about?
She sighs and shakes her head, closing her eyes. They had training tomorrow, she needed to get some rest.
