With glory in our hands,
we sing of victory,
bearing the wings of freedom upon our backs

anonymous asked: eld or gunther
@patchtorn suggested I draw a group photo so here it is, with the usual punchline of Auruo being roasted by the squad, moments before Captain Levi catches them slacking off on the objective ( then roasting them all individually, especially Jäger, who has done absolutely nothing but put up with this kinda shit for the past two hours )

Eld wasn’t actually present at Auruo and Petra’s first expedition. In my opinion at least, it doesn’t make sense to send out the entire Survey Corp on every expedition; you need to keep troops in reserve, after all. Just in case. Plus the fact, even if he had of been there, the chances of him noticing two shell shocked rookies with soggy trousers amidst all that carnage is pretty slim.
This, of course, makes him telling Eren about them wetting their pants even worse. They’ve told him about it in confidence, and he’s spilled the beans to prove a point. Dick move, Eld.
deimpetueux:
“ It’s alright, I guess. ” He mutters before clasping the others hand into his own, a small smile threatening to break through his previously sullen expression. It’s hard to stay angry around someone with such an optimistic outlook, especially when they treat you as something other than a pawn on the battlefield. After all, everyone had their own stories & aspirations within this godforsaken place, even if it was rare for some to see.
Placing his free arm upon the table, Jean can only think about it for a moment, there’s nothing special in the Corps, just your standard wooden cots & oaken desks around. It’s certainly nice, to put it sweetly, but it’s fairly plain, even lacking in the department of livelihood, but did that all really matter now? Jean could not fathom anyone who complained about it, not even himself.
“ It’s good quality for our deathbeds… ” & even Jean finds himself shuddering at the words that fall past his lips in slight horror. Smile momentarily fading with a regretting sigh. For a boy, he’s always been too blunt with what he says, especially in the face of his opinions, but even he can relate to the feeling of being put in the spotlight, instead, he manages a chuckle. Treating the situation as playful once more.
“ You always been a fan of the place? ”
Eld returned to his porridge as the young cadet lapsed into silence, obviously mulling over the question he had been posed. As Eld ate, he watched. It was a bad habit, he knew. Auruo was always telling him to “quit staring!” but you learnt a lot about a person by watching. So Eld watched.
Eren had had a lot to say about Jean - very little of it good - but Eld was coming to his own conclusions. He’d been lucky enough to see the tail end of a 3DM gear training session that the new blood had been a part of, and Jean was good. Really good. And sat here now... Well, he seemed like a nice kid. He’d returned he handshake and the smile, after all...
... He almost choked on a raisin when he heard the word “deathbeds”, however. Wow. Wow. He understood the need that some people had for gallows humour, but in someone so young? Maybe Trost had been that bad.
He was so taken aback he almost missed Jean’s question.
“Wha-? Muh?” he manages around a mouthful of porridge. He swallowed loudly before continuing. “Well, if I’m being honest, I didn’t really want to end up here in the first place. I was all for joining the MPs, believe it or not...” There was no point in lying about it.
superiorskill:
“That could change pretty easy, the more you flap your gob.” Which was a fair assumption; Eld never met a silence he couldn’t decorate with his infuriating brand of chatter, simultaneously bright and intense, to say nothing of when it lapsed into more serious speculation. It made him an exceptional Second in Command, and an irritating roommate.
But it was nice to have a little company this late; somehow he got the feeling Eld didn’t have a lecture in mind this time, nor was he in the mood to tease him over nonsense. Not too badly, anyway.
He beckoned Eld forward and ladled the watery stew in his bowl, nearly up to the brim, spilling a little over the edge in his haste. But he bit down the reflexive curse and fished the spare bowl out of Eld’s free hand, filling it with what was left. “Go on, go on,” he said, ushering Eld out into the half-darkened mess hall. “I’m gonna choke on this heat.”
Absurdly, he felt a little guilty they hadn’t left any behind. No one would want any, he knew – after all there was only so much you could do with scraps – but it was a leftover flinch from another life that he couldn’t reconcile, more people in a smaller space, more bellies to fill. For the second time that night, he wondered how his brothers were doing.
“You’ll wanna eat that quick,” Auruo said as they settled at a table in the corner. “You don’t wanna know what that shit tastes like cold.”
Eld looked down at the bowl of thin stew in front of him, the delicate film of grease that stretched across its surface winking in the half light. He had put the bowl down on the table with the utmost care, desperate not to spill a single drop, yet apparently there had still been enough momentum to cause brightly coloured chunks of carrot and parsnip to bob to the surface. They looked almost cheerful to his mind, happy to have been cooked so skillfully.
Auruo could talk down his efforts all he wanted. In Eld’s opinion, judging by the smell alone, this was about as far away from shit as you could get.
In all but the blink of an eye, he had grabbed a spoon, plunged it into the stew and shovelled it into his mouth. It was hot - far too hot, he should have blown on it first - but he didn’t care. It was wonderful. Truly wonderful. The taste was superb of course - strong, savoury, hearty - but there was something else there, something he couldn’t quite put his finger on. Maybe it was because it was home cooked? His mother had never really bothered with cooking, relying instead on the other food vendors at the market place to feed her family. Whatever that special something was, Eld loved it.
Slamming his palms down hard on the table’s surface, he leaned forwards, eyes bright, all previous woes apparently forgotten. “Auruo!” he rasped, his throat still recovering from the heat of the broth. “This... This is AMAZING! I mean, I knew you could cook, but not like this!”
I'M SO SORRY I ACCIDENTALLY DISAPPEARED AGAIN
@jaegerheit
continued from here:
“Well, not need exactly...” Eld drawls, his tone casual. “I was just going to let the horses out into the paddock, and was wondering if you’d like to come along too.”
Eld had an irrepressible need to get to know everybody in his orbit. Now Eren had fallen into this sphere and Eld had to admit, short of knowing that the kid could magically transform into a giant monster, he knew very little about him. This was an opportunity to rectify that.
... Plus the fact he’d be a liar if he said that didn’t feel more than a little guilty about the recent hullabaloo involving Eren and the Squad. He glanced down at the fresh bite marks on his hand, a painful reminder that he needed to clear the air with the new recruit.
“How about it, Eren?”
gently places flower crown on your head ( is this ic or ooc the world will never know ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ )
“Thanks, Petra! It’s beautiful!”

the silence that follows his words tells him something is off. eld was almost deathly quiet, the only sound reverberating around them being the hooves against the ground.
he focuses his eyes back on the area around them. had he missed something ?? certainly he hadn’t. he’d made sure to be vigilant so that if danger was imminent they wouldn’t be caught by surprise. it’s then he takes note that the storm has approached faster than anticipated. the air feels tight, almost like a blanket has been draped over them.
something in the air has shifted too. there’s an uneasiness that settles over his entire person. his chest tightens && he sits straighter. despite knowing there hadn’t been danger a moment ago when he’d reported to his superior, he’s aware that something has changed. he’s not sure how. perhaps it’s the way his stomach twists or the way he feels every muscle in his body tighten.
the birds bursting into the sky causes the boy to jump in his seat. the sudden shout from behind has him scrambling for his flare gun. it takes a moment of fumbling before he’s sending a red flare towards the heavens.
not a minute too soon either. the moment it’s gone up the titan comes from between the trees. his entire being seizes up at the sight && he swallows the lump forming in his throat. they were at a disadvantage with the storm sitting on them && being out in the open. but he trusted corps member he’s riding with.
❛ what do we do now, sir !? ❜
“MAKE FOR THE TREES! NOW! DON’T LOOK BACK, JUST GO! GO!”
It was a risk, he knew, but a calculated one. Of course, there may be more Titans lurking in the forest, hidden amongst the trunks of those giant firs. In fact, he was sure there was. But the trees afforded them - Armin and him - a degree of protection too, and opened up a whole realm of possibilities in terms of manoeuvrability. Whilst Eld had taken out Titans on flat ground before, it wasn’t something he liked to do, especially not without his Squad. Especially when he was responsible for Armin’s safety.
Eld peered over his shoulder. It was still following. Good.
Jabbing his heels hard into the side of his mount, he urged the horse forward. Drawing level with Armin, he fixed the young recruit with a steely gaze.
“Arlert!” he barked, his voice a whip crack that beat even the urgent thundering of the horses’ hooves, the incessant pounding of the Titan’s feet. “Once we get to that tree line, I expect you off that horse and up in those branches. High up! I mean it! No heroics, no wondering “what if I do this?” In. The. Trees. Got it? I’ll handle the Titan.”
