Erin’s heart was pounding wildly in her chest. Her eyes shifted ever so slightly from the barrel of the gun levelled at her and the man who controlled whether or not the trigger would be pulled.
Just walk away. Her mind was screaming at her to just do what he said and take the opportunity when she had it. She started to take a slow step backwards, not wanting to turn her back.
Before she could stop herself, the words were coming out of her mouth, “Are you alone? I mean, I am too.” She quickly added, realizing how it sounded. It was never the best thing to admit but it was clear enough that no one was coming to her rescue.
He would have groaned aloud if he wasn’t so tense already. Why did she have to try and question him; and with nothing short of suspicious. How could he take her hastily added confession for truth? That was just it: he couldn’t.
“Not exactly something you should blurt out to a stranger.” Even through his annoyance, Conrad managed to give Erin some - - - friendly advice?
“Ya gonna leave now or are we playing 20 questions - - -” While he may not have responded with an answer, it could be inferred by the way he spoke that he wasn’t expecting anyone to come to his aid either.
