it would've been so easy to give Bella and Alice something in common: sewing.

if Bella is growing up balancing budgets, she & Renee are obviously tight on money. darling socks, mending holes, embroidering over stains, & basic tailoring are all simple household chores that save money & position Bella as a "responsible old soul."

Bella sews out of necessity but never has the money to work with quality fabrics or make her own clothes. she can be interested in how articles are assembled & still hate shopping & trying stuff on. but Alice can teach her new techniques & broaden Bella's horizons, turning what was once a household chore into a hobby they both share

100%. fashion feels like more like a tool to indicate status & wealth than it does an actual hobby. Alice shops, dresses her family, commissions a designer for a wedding dress, but she never seems interested in the nitty gritty of textiles, fabric arts, etc. it makes it hard not to interpret it as a symptom of the mindless consumerist culture glorified in early 21st-century America. but i suppose if you're positioning the Cullens as the pinnacle of the early 21st-century white American dream, unfettered consumerism is a feature, not a bug

even more insane when you think about all the tangential skills Renee had to learn in order to make the t-shirt quilt she gifts Bella in Eclipse. she picks up a hobby every other week but manages to keep her focus long enough to sink in hours and hours of work? either she's a quilting prodigy or that's been a lifelong skill for her. which, if that's the case, makes Bella's lack of sewing skills even weirder

I think Edward would still like Bella if he could read her thoughts. She would think kind thoughts about her friends and he would be like 'oh thats nice she's very sweet'. I don't know what about her he considers more beautiful than the other humans, but I don't believe the reason he thinks she's beautiful is because he can't see her thoughts. He recounts many times that when she speaks her thoughts, they are not what he expects. Perhaps she would catch his attention far less, but she's still his singer and I think he could still be infatuated with her even when reading her thoughts.

When Jessica Stanley thinks about hugging him in Midnight Sun, he says something about how he could stomach the idea of it if it were Bella thinking this about him.

I know a lot of the story requires Bella to have her shield, but I would still like to think that if Edward could read each and every one of her thoughts he would still love her.

say whatever you want about twilight movies but the first movie being nearly completely in cool tones while new moon is completely in warm tones to represent the difference between edward and jacob aka vampire vs werewolf was so peak. the cool tones in twilight grouped bella with the cullens since she was pale and looked kind of dead, but the warm tones in new moon showed the great contrast between how unlike humans cullens were, and how bella, with her little tanned, blushing face, didn't belong to them. Not yet, at least.

I love how much Twilight discourse used to be centred around how Twilight isn’t scary and how Edward isn’t a rEaL vampire he’s just a hot guy!! Who sparkles!!!!!!!!! As if Twilight wasn’t very famously a romance book. That’s like turning up to a Saw movie and getting pissed off when it turns out to not be a cute slice of life fic. Genuinely what were you expecting.
