ok so here’s the plot from what i can remember.....
west of worlds- this is the very beginning of the show. we have Alice Gordon telling us that it’s the middle of WWII and we’re in an abandoned underground tube station that has been made into a makeshift bunker. Along with Alice there’s others in the bunker including, but not limited to, a nurse who tells Alice it’s time to grow up, a boy who still thinks he’s at home and need to turn in a paper, a soldier experiencing PTSD, and a doctor. Then the doctor brings in Alfred, Alice’s childhood best friend, from the streets and diagnose him with tuberculosis. Alice, shocked that Alfred has turned up there, goes to try and talk to him and make him feel better. The nurse and the doctor ban her from seeing him, worried she will also catch tuberculosis. She eventually manages to sneak back in and read him their favorite book as kids, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. Before Alice can even really start, Alfred tells her to leave, he doesn’t want her to get sick. The nurse then comes back and rips up Alice’s book and again yells at her for being with Alfred. Alice, once again, sneaks back in and says that she knows it by heart (title) so they can still read it. Alred reluctantly agrees but says that when the story is over he will die.
down the hole- Now all of the people in the bunker are becoming their Wonderland characters. The nurse is the Red Queen, Doctor is the Jabberwock, the soldier is the Mad Hatter, Alice is Alice, and Alfred is the White Rabbit.
Still- Alice tries to convince Alfred as the white rabbit to stay with her in the scene. Alfred wants to keep going and stick to how the story’s written, saying his character’s not supposed to be there, but Alice says that since she’s the one reciting, she can change the story. Alice is also picking up on the more romantic relationship they have now rather than their relationship as kids. In the end of the song Alfred leaves.
Chillin’ The Regrets- Alice continues with the story and runs into the caterpillar, in this played by two people. The caterpillar offers her a puff of his bong thing (I don’t really know the word for it? and i’m not sure what it is so...we’re going with bong) and eventually Alice agrees. I personally think this song also has some development on the running theme of Alice sort of coming into her own as a women and her sexuality, and this is really where the theme starts to get more attention. It continues throughout the show.
The Key Is- Alice, now high, finds Alfred again and tries to get him to also take a hit from the bong, saying that it’ll let them slow down time and spend more time together. Alfred eventually agrees.
Those Long Eyes- This is a scene that is mostly taken straight from Alice’s Adventitious in Wonderland. Alice and Alfred are sort of chilling and Alice begins to continue the story, but this time with The White Rabbit with her. The next scene is the lobster dance(?? idk i’ve never read the book so i’m sorta going off of this) and Alice changes the story yet again and her and Alfred also dance. This starts to really get things going romantically for Alice and Alfred. Alice and Alfred are once again just hanging when Alice tries to continue the story only to find she’s forgotten an entire scene. The characters that were supposed to be in the scene come back and yell at Alice for ruining the story. Alfred decides he has to leave and keep the story going, and after an argument, leaves Alice alone to continue the story. The next scene is with the Duchess (played by Noah Galvin) and is a comedy scene. The Duchess makes comments on how Alice has grown and is maturing. Eventually they go to the flamingo croquet game.
Manage Your Flamingo- Basically as it goes in the song. The Duchess and everyone else in the Red Queen’s Court are telling Alice how to play the game, including Alfred, who is only acting as his character at the moment. All of this makes Alice very mad and she calls out Alfred for trying to keep the story going. This causes them to fight again and Alfred decides that to get Alice to stop caring about him he’s going to become a character that will make her hate him.
Sick to Death- Alfred, as the March Hare, changes the scene to the tea party. The Mad Hatter, Doormouse, and March Hare are all mean to Alice and she grows increasingly more annoyed with them. The song ends as Alice pushes Alfred and we are snapped back to reality as Alfred is growing sicker and the nurse and doctor find the two together again. Alice is separated from him again and is sent to the end of the line to further quarantine him.
Brillig Braelig- We’re back to Wonderland as Alice fights the Jabberwock, played by the doctor. She defeats him and the story continues.
Some Things Fall Away- The cheshire cat, who’s been offering Alice advice through out the show, now tells her that she needs to accept Alfred’s death. Alice gets mad and dismisses her.
Your Shell of Grief- Alice comes across the mock turtles, all mounting someone and shutting out the rest of the world with their “shells of grief”. She joins them.
ok this is the bit that I dont really remember a whole lot but basically Alice goes back to where Alfred is.
Another Room In Your Head- Alfred tells Alice he wants her to be able to move on from him when he dies. Alice continues the story to the trial.
Isn’t it a Trial/ Do you Think We Think Youre Alice- the Red Queen and the characters of Wonderland confront Alice in the trial for messing up the story and corrupting it with her feelings for the Rabbit. Alice tries to argue back but the trial is nonsensical and only works to favor the Queen, so anything she says is either dismissed or interrupted. The Queen eventually rules that she’s guilty and the punishment is beheading.
I’ve shrunk enough- Alice fights back with the help of Alfred and the Cheshire Cat, and finishes the story.
Afternoon- The story’s over and Alice and Alfred are back to the real world. In the middle of this song Alfred dies.
Winter Blooms- Alice decides she has to continue with her story and goes back to the rest of he people in the bunker with just a little more hope that the world will be alright at some point and that she can use the story of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland to remember Alfred.
