Just got back from watching I Saw the TV Glow with a group of trans girlfriends at our local theater. Probably the most I've ever cried at a film. It took a lot out of me. It was poignant and raw and disturbing and important, but extremely depressing and dysphoria inducing.

The hardest part though was probably watching the confused straight cis couple in front of us (who kept turning around to stare at us everytime we talked to each other before the start of the film) get up and leave halfway through. Even moreso, the group of loud jeering shithead guys sitting behind us who boo'd during the end credits, loudly proclaiming it to be 'pretentious shit' that 'didn't make any sense'. As a trans woman growing up in the 90's, it felt so deeply personal and upsetting that I wanted to shake and hit and hurt them while shouting that not everything is for them. That just because they are too shallow and stupid and self-centered to understand the meaning didn't make it a bad film.

Anyway, nobody makes horror like trans women make horror. They simply can't. We live and breath it.
