Here in the bisexual community we spend a lot of time myth busting. Myths about our sexuality abound, but an especially popular one is that we are automatically promiscuous.

If you are faced with this accusation by all means explain to someone that it isn’t a requirement, but please be careful of slut shaming. Some bisexuals ARE promiscuous just like some like to read horror novels and some are vegetarians and some are afraid of roller coasters and some only like vanilla ice cream. 

There is nothing wrong with safe educated sex that is not hurting anyone emotionally. Some people like to have a lot of it and some people like none at all. When you see someone generalizing by saying “All bisexuals are sluts” don’t fall in to that trap, don’t use your defense to shame other people. Tell them that YOU ARE YOUR OWN PERSON, that you are an individual and any label that you use for yourself doesn’t take that away from you.

Bi Resource Spotlight: Bisexual Resource Center (Boston, MA)

The Bisexual Resource Center is a group focused in Boston, MA. They serve as a place to organize a multitude of groups based around bisexual individuals including the Bisexual Women of Color Coffee and Chat and the Bisexual Social and Support Group.

The BRC promotes an inclusive environment in all of its organizations. Specifically, they identify bi as anyone attracted to more than one gender.

"The BRC uses bisexual as an umbrella term for people who recognize and honor their potential for sexual and emotional attraction to more than one gender (pansexual, fluid, omnisexual, queer, and all other free-identifiers). We celebrate and affirm the diversity of identity and expression regardless of labels."

Hello! I'm not to sure how this works, ( I'm sorry! ) but I wanted to say that there is a fantastic book called "Going Bovine" which features beautiful bisexual and gay characterization, with just a great story in general. Thank you so much for this blog, I honestly can't appreciate it enough!

Hi everyone!

Obviously it's been a while since I updated this blog, I had some struggles with mental health and just got so busy with school that I just had zero time.

But I'd really like to rejoin the community through this blog, I loved hearing about people's experiences and sharing bi resources and figures!

That said, I would love to get submissions from you guys about bi support systems in your areas. As someone pointed out to me last year it is irresponsible for me to post about bi resources without testimony. 

I am still in school so posting might be slow but I'm hoping to get the bisexual figures going again soon (I could also use some suggestions here, I'm sure there are some I don't know about)

 I also want to re-iterate: PLEASE DO NOT HESITATE TO ASK ME TO ADD TRIGGER WARNINGS TO A POST. I will try and cover sort of the basics but I am always willing to accommodate based on my followers. :)

It’s not that hard to be a better ally. Here are four relatively simple steps.

Dear very well-meaning but completely clueless would be allies, While some of the people in the group walking a Bisexual Pride Ribbon Flag in their local Pride Parades undoubtedly ARE Tran*, Gender Non-Nonconforming, Androgynous as well as Cisgender … that is not the Trans* Pride Flag. That is the Bisexual Pride Flag. Here, let us help you figure it out:

Bisexual Pride Flag: The flag was designed by Florida bisexual activist and leader Michael Page in 1998 saying, “in designing the Bi Pride Flag, I selected the colors and overlap pattern of the ‘bi angles’ symbol". The deep pink or rose stripe at the top of the flag represents the possibility of same gender attraction; the royal blue stripe at the bottom of the flag represents the possibility of opposite gender attraction and the stripes overlap in the central fifth of the flag to form a deep shade of lavender or purple, which represents the possibility of attraction anywhere along the entire gender spectrum.

Trans Pride Flag: The flag was created by Monica Helms a transgender activist, blogger and leader in 1999. Helms describes the meaning of the transgender flag as follows, “The stripes at the top and bottom are light blue, the traditional color for baby boys. The stripes next to them are pink, the traditional color for baby girls. The stripe in the middle is white, for those who are intersex, transitioning or consider themselves having a neutral or undefined.

And here is a picture of them all flying together at the Marriage Equity Rally at the US Supreme Court in March 2013.

So while many bisexual movement founders, leaders and just plain folks ARE transgender/gender variant and many transgender/gender non-conforming people are bisexual they are actually not the same thing.

I'm a female. I wouldn't mind being in a purely sexual relationship with a girl. But I would only be in a full, serious relationship with a man. Is this bisexual?

Beginning disclaimer: I am not the identity police.

However in general I would say that it is not ASSUMING you are looking for a "full, serious" relationship that you will keep for the rest of your life. If a long committed relationship is your goal in life and you would only consider that with a cis man it sounds like you're at least heteroromantic.

Adrienne Williams

is a leader in spreading bisexual awareness and voices. She founded the Bi Social Network:

" Right about 2 a.m., I was talking to a friend about how I want to do something more with Bi Social Network -- how many in the bisexual community felt they were invisible, in the straight community and under the LGBT umbrella as a whole. I had a lightbulb moment, [and] two days [later], I started to work on the new site for other bisexuals to share their own stories, and work on a plan of action to get others to participate in imagery, storytelling, and sharing video of their unique stories of being bisexual."

She also founded the I Am Visible campaign to help spread awareness about bi erasure. 

Williams is role model because she takes real action, amplifying bi voices and bringing the community together.

At the risk of recommending possibly biphobic lg"bt" resources I've decided not to do the state posts the way I have been, instead I encourage all of you to send in any organizations or groups that you've been a part of, anonymously is fine as long as you mention your home state.

I really don't know if I'm bi or Pansexual. I'd love anyone, regardless of anything gender related I think, I've never really had to make that decision besides just boy/girl. I feel bad for not knowing, though I guess I shouldn't. I already came out as bi to quite a few close friends, including Dad, and I feel horrible for maybe not actually being bi. That's a general description but please help? Any advice, on any of this? To me bi always meant anyone.. I didn't think of other stuff as well..

The best part about bisexuality: you get to define it. Generally thought it means anything that isn't straight or gay.

But for people interested in a little reading on the topic I would suggest this article which includes this snippet:

“I call myself bisexual because I acknowledge in myself the potential to be attracted, romantically and/or sexually, to people of more than one sex, not necessarily at the same time, not necessarily in the same way, and not necessarily to the same degree.”

Of course you should always feel comfortable to use the pansexual label instead. The word pansexual is being used more widely today than ever before and so the more obvious linguistic choice for polysexual people was bisexual. This doesn't mean that people identifying as bi in the past were wrong about their own sexuality and for anyone to suggest otherwise is rude and belittling.

In the end your sexuality is your own to define, use it to expand your life, not limit it. If you can't find one that does this then screw them and just live.
