Heres the most untapped companion dynamic that I am BEGGING BioWare to use in Dreadwolf: Viddathari companion, and Tal-Vashoth companion.
The arguments would be legendary. Here you have someone who has actively chosen to convert to the Qun despite being born outside of it, and I think for the tastiest conflict would have to believe in it with their full chest. And then someone who was born into it and left.
"Why would you ever LEAVE the Qun! I spent my whole life searching for purpose and didn't find it until I met a Tamassran, no one gave me ANY respect until I found the Qun."
"Why would you CHOOSE to submit yourself to that dogmatic bullshit? Dont you have any self respect, you were FREE"
Its just... theres so much good shit you can do there with two people who are both converts, but in the exact opposite direction.
Bull is big and intimidating to most, and he can be the brute everyone assumes he is to get what he needs (Ben'Hassarath, remember?). But he is also gentle. He files his nails (Qunariās tend to grow like clawsāsharp and curled) to small stubs and keeps them clean, though sometimes his Kadan likes them a little sharp for scratching. His fingers are thick but nimble for tying rope and even more so when he does small, intricate braids in his Kadanās hair before the long day ahead of them. In the morning when heās awake before his Kadan, heāll find himself counting their breaths, tracing their scars with his nail stubs and silently guessing where each is from with pride in how far theyāve come.
He laughs from his belly, which is full from the food he indulges in (even if the Qun doesnāt allow one to indulge oneself), and hard from the years of fighting and protecting. Sometimes his leg aches from too much walking and his metal brace will creak from over-exertion, but heāll be okay. Itās nothing new. He gets headaches around his missing eye and horns that he passes off with a elfroot potion, maybe a drink too. Some days he feels old when heās stuck with his memories, and he doesnāt realise the tight grip his hands form when his mind travels a little too far back. Some days he feels young, but also new. When he fights a dragon with the others, and they walk back to camp with singed hair and bloody weapons, smiles and panting breathsāpride. When Krem and his boys celebrate a successful mission like when they went giant-baiting, or helped Kremās stuffed nugs fly. When the night is quiet and itās just him and his kadan, skin on skin with sweat gluing them together after heavy breaths and roars. Some days his Kadan reminds him itās okay to be Iron Bull, and some days he reminds himself he is Iron Bull.Ā
Sten has always been one of my favourite Dragon Age characters and I'm glad I got commissioned by BioWare to draw him for this year's DA Day.

Today itās one and only Sten, or should I say The Sten? Or is he Arishok now? In my games he is. But heās no longer Sten - heās Arishok - not to confuse with the Arishok from DA2.
Qun needs to start using names, so I wonāt be getting headaches each time I try to explain who is in the picture.

After an entire life time of being literally branded as an outsider and as lesser, it must be quite the culture shock for the Warden to meet somebody from a people where the circumstances of your birth donāt matter

is there anything in faces of thedas about Sten, or the qunari in general?
Sten is one of the characters with a whole piece, yeah! A lot of it is nothing that isnāt stated in WoTv2, but hereās a couple points:
Sten was always immediately recognizable among the qunari people for not having any horns, something that often indicates someone who is Tal-Vashoth, as apparently that is something they frequently do after escaping from the Qun.
Sten joined theĀ Beresaad after gaining the favour of the Arishok, who the Beresaad report directly to, and are his personal representatives.
Sten of course becomes Arishok after Hawke kills the one in Kirkwall, and isĀ āa good ruler, albeit a traditional one.ā
The reason Sten loves cookies is because they were never discovered by the qunari, since theyāre often made using excess dough, and there is no such thing as excess anything under the Qun.
Thereās a big piece all about the Qun in Chapter 2. I donāt want to just copy and paste the entire thing though, so again, here are just some points of interest:
The #1 theme of the Qun isĀ āAsit tal-eb,ā which translates asĀ āIt is to be;ā meaning duty comes before everything else.
There is no actual recorded way of telling one Arishok from another throughout history, as the minute one dies, another sheds their old self and assumes the role as the previous one did. This is in contrast to the rest of Thedas, where historical periods are divided by rulers.
The Battle of the Nocen Sea between Tevinter and the Qunari that led to the treaty between them was the largest battle ever fought in Thedas.
The role of Arigenaāoverseer of merchants and craftsmen and the treasuryāis considered a sacred one, as every member of the Qun has a tool that contains their soul for eternity. She is permanently on Seheron as a tactical decision to allow her to deploy weapons to the front lines.
Children under the Qun receive their new title/role by theĀ Tamassrans who raise them at age twelve.
Ben-Hassrath re-educators are separated by gender (remembering that the Qunari believe in gender binary). Only men handle other adult men, and only women handle other adult women and children.

Various tarot-style artwork I made a few months back that I never uploaded. Anxietyās a bitch and now Iām using the bit of energy Iāve worked up to release these into the world.
Iāve intentionally left out which artwork references which card for personal reasons, but anyone with any knowledge of the arcana can probably figure it out.
