Her laugh plays in the background- haunting the news anchor, the contrast of the over produced voice delivering “Today's Hot News” is jarring

They show every clip they could get their hands on

Waves of paparazzi, Runway shows, backstage giggles, the after parties- Everything

"Police have not publicly confirmed a cause of death, though sources close to the investigation indicate toxicology testing is ongoing.”

*Our apartment*

pictures flash across the obnoxiously-big-TV™ like its the crime scene, stomach churning at the sight of her belongings, those rooms that hold so many memories- memories meant only for them, not for the news, or the media to dissect

Now suddenly feeling her skin has been peeled for everyone to see and criticize

*Why would they show their apartment? Its not even evidence- they just want the views*

"Known for her outspoken criticism of corruption within the fashion industry and anti-trafficking advocacy work, Loveland leaves behind a teenage daughter.”

*There it is*

A picture montage show Rosa during her pregnancy, headlines at the time praising her for how quickly she came back to the modeling world

This is infuriating, advertising a consumable tragedy, they don't even say her name right- this is real life not some ad break

"Rosa was no stranger to controversy…”

*Here it comes, this is how they say she was asking for it while still pretending to give a shit*

"...the supermodel's outspoken personality and highly public lifestyle often attracted headlines...”

Flashing dramatic clips of her at parties, clubs, while sneaking in a pic or 2 of her and her daughter walking out of events

Trying to hint at what they really think of her

*She didn't even do drugs?*

Interviews start rolling of her “friends” say how much she meant to them

*She hated that bitch?*

The obnoxiously-big-TV-Hologram™ now losing her attention, the brand new fiber that hugs her now itching at every nerve in her body,

*We were supposed to buy flowers and ice cream*

Throat feeling full of gelatin, air now feeling like a broken promise, as if trying to say something she can't quite accept now

The now faint sound of the Obnoxiously-big-TV-Hologram™ company soft foot steps from the hallway

They stop once they reach the room

"...authorities ask anyone with information regarding Ms. Loveland's movements Monday evening to contact investiga-”

The soft “click” sounding more like a wave of relief then a disturbance, she knew she shouldn't watch the news right now, but the guilt of turning it off outweighed the pain of seeing clips from the past

She should feel guilty, she should yell at him to turn it back on, she should do anything-

She just wants to look behind her and run into the safety of her mothers arms, But behind her wasn't her mother. It was a father she only knew from word of mouth and the news

Grief has silenced them both throughout this transition

milliseconds feel like the years leading up to death, its too much

death suddenly sounding more reassuring then looking back- back at one of the few that knew Her, the fact that someone else actually knew her mother was hard enough to grasp- but that it was him???

It takes everything in her to look at him, knowing if she turns too fast everything will break, she cant promise composure

She turns just her torso, enough to see the corner that Tony occupies behind her, fearing where her feet would take her- its odd having someone to cry into, yet not knowing them enough to do so

She recognize more then she'd like to admit, how he carries himself, how he speaks, his ears

*Is that why Mom would giggle at my ears?*

Cutting the reminiscing short she finally looks in his eyes, recognizing the familiar human shine his eyes are burdened with, clear hes feeling way more then he's let on

*Sweet, but how sad. trying to make room for my emotions- in a life i wasn't supposed to even be apart of*

Her nose scrunching at the sentiment

Jaw tightening as he can see the years of giggles turn bittersweet in her eyes, glittering like ponds in the moonlight, no one's eyes should ever trap that many tears

He wanted to take this all away- everything, it's probably wrong, but he cant stand the all too familiar loss in her eyes

Shared silence becoming unbearable, mutual understanding now weighing heavier then the future of what's to come

Moving her feet felt like pulling a stubborn tooth that's not ready to let go, but she couldn't risk looking back fearing she might run to him like all those times with her mother

*Dont look back- just go to your room, we're not ready for that yet* These days, that bland dark hall was the closest thing she'd had to a hug

Tony's eyes chased her as the barely lit hall stole her away. Wishing he had something- anything capable of lightening this load of shit.

“Vanessa….” he hesitated, Regretting how minimalistic the house was. Loss now being the only decoration within these walls.

If she heard him she didn't make it known

Smell of hot metals cloud the room, the quiet sound of typing keeps this room "alive?". She sits at her desk, programming her latest “Bet”. The shy scent of orchids distract her from the apocalyptic state of the workshop. Its pretty if you close your eyes, right?

Head thumping lovely tune of ache, and at this point all the numbers might as well be shapes, nothing but spite barely fueling her endeavor

“Miss Vasily?” Jarvis probed. Snapping her from the her mindless trance

“Shit- Yes?” she asked, spinning in her chair, waking her enough

“The Stark Expo broadcast will begin in approximately 4 minutes.”

 

“Finally!” She huffed in relief, the spinning slowly coming to a lazy halt. she had hoped she would be there in person, but this'll have to do

 

“Would you like me to stream it here?” Jarvis asked

 

“That's ok! I need a break anyways, you can get it started in the living room” she objects. Just the thought of staying in this room any longer drives her deeper into a uninspired insanity.

Uprooting from her work chair, shes reminded of the sleepy aches that hug at her muscles, trying her best to wake them with stretches, the relief lasted all of 4 seconds before her hands started tingling in regret

 

*Fuck this, im only relocating to the couch?*

She makes her escape, not looking at the mess behind, knowing it'll just coax her back if she does. walking down the familiar hall, now decorated with “Iron man” merch. It's funny how solemn these used to be?

Now reaching the living room, she pauses her journey to the couch, captured by the view

 

“Aw”

 

The giant windows framed a story of colors, peach embracing pale blue, its dreamy lux making even the sharpest of modern homes feel cozy.the kind of flooding honey light that makes life feel big again.

*she'd love this view*

Breaking away from the horizon, kicking her slippers off on the way to the couch, stopping only at the coffee table for the bowl of what looks like pistachios?

A sigh of relief escapes with her tension, getting comfortable she grabs the extra pillows, one to prop under her right arm so she can lean against the hard “arm rest” comfortably, and the second to cover her feet, the cold snapping at them as she tucks into the couch

The Obnoxiously-Big-TV-Hologram steals her attention, not for long though, everything the host says is going in one ear and out the other.

 

“Jarvis? How- much longer- do ya think?” she asks, battling pistachios

 

“Approximately forty-two seconds, Miss Vasily.” Jarvis replied, the Obnoxiously-Big-TV-Hologram silently re-syncing

 

“Hm Fashionably late, as usual” she assessed. At least now the couch has accepted her nest. The faint sound of AC/DC checks her back into reality

Dancers line up for “Iron man's” arrival, the giant screen shining behind them proudly waves the American flag

 

Somehow he times it perfectly with the song

 

The crowd practically singing in awe, the dancers in the back safe from the pyrotechnics, continuing their routine, beams of light preforming along side them.

"iron man" stands there with welcoming arms, soaking in all the praise. His part of the stage now raising him up as the familiar robotic “arms” free him from the suit, hes got a shit-eating smile the whole 360 turn

 

Fireworks doing absolutely nothing to shush the crowd as the performance comes to an end. its as obnoxious as she hoped, almost tacky, perfectly him.

But the real fun is about to begin

 

he stands there, self assured as ever “you missed me?”-”blow something up!” Someone interrupts

 

Tony repeats the question "I already did that” the familiar tone tells her exactly how this is gonna go

 

“Oh… my god” sinking into the couch impossibly deeper

 

“I'm not saying that, the world is enjoying its longest period of uninterrupted peace in years because of me” he states, almost plainly

 

“I’m not saying that from the ashes of captivity! Never has a greater phoenix metaphor been personified in human history”

 

"Jarvis…. Please, if i ever sound like that, remind me im an ass" she asks. If she inherits anything else from that man… she swears it'll be the death of her.

 

"Are we sure about this request?"

 

"Definitely…." she states. Internally grateful he cant remind her in public

*I need to be humbled more anyways*

 

“I'm not saying that Uncle Sam can kick back on a lawn chair, sipping on a iced tea”

"very well Miss Vasily, I will add it to my list of reminders" he confirms, sounding a little too excited. well, as excited as an AI can get

tony continues “Because I haven't come across anyone who's man enough to go toe-to-toe with me on my best day”

“I love you tony!!” A woman declared

 

“What a nerd” Vanessa chuckles into her bowl, re-adjusting her slumbering feet, “hey Jarvis, can you turn the temp down?”

 

“Please, its not about me”

“Miss Vasily, would you like me to set it to your usual 68?”

“Its not about you. Its not even about us.” Tony's speech hums in the background

"Uh- Yeah that's good” she hesitates.

*didn't know i had a usual?*

 

 

“Its about legacy"

"Its about what we chose to leave behind for future generations”

 

"Huh.." inflamed nerves burn across her skull

 

*legacy?*

 

The word feels like fleas jumping across her skin.

*am i a part of his legacy?* salt and shells roll across her mouth, bowl now uncomfortable in her grasp, sending them to the coffee table

*can't I have peace for once*

 

“And that's why for the next year, and for the first time since 1974, the best and brightest men and women of nations and corporations the world over will pool their resources, share their collective vision, to leave behind a brighter future”

tugging at the last bit of relaxation, tuning out the cheers from the Obnoxiously-Big-TV-Hologram, she reaches for the lifeless bundle of hair, scalp suddenly remembering the stress of strain

“Its not about us….. Therefore, what im saying, if im saying anything, is welcome back to the Stark Expo!" he greets, genuine pride seeps through with a suppressed smirk

 

Relief interrupted by the invading scent of hot metals, cigarette smoke intertwining pink strands, Tom Ford fleeing the scene. Smells that normally would be comforting, now suffocate her senses

"and now, making a special guest appearance from the great beyond to tell you what its all about"

deciding standing would distract her enough, she abandons the twin pillows, icy marble snaps at the veins across her feet, gently cooling the rest of her body from within

"please welcome my father, Howard" tony finishing his intro walks off stage as the giant screen plays Howard's welcoming speech. This Man that represents such an unfamiliar concept, inspires the crowd with his promises of a safer future

soft chills run up her left shoulder, grabbing her by the nape of her neck. feet rocking her back and forth for a moment, causing her head to ache in regret. The room echos with beaming enthusiasm from the reporter

*guess that's it?*

Mundane Avengers headcanons:

Peter's phone screen is perpetually broken. He doesn't even try to fix it at this point and just reads between the cracks (his friends consider it another superpower)

Tony uses hand lotion and lip balm obsessively. He may forget to eat but his sensory issues won't let him forget his chapped lips

Steve doesn't trust dishwashers, even when Tony explains the science and why they're actually cleaner

Natasha stretches constantly. Whenever she's bored, tired, standing around. The conversation gets dull and the next thing you know she's touching her toes

Bucky is actually very funny but he always has a dry, straight-faced delivery so nobody knows he's joking. He gets sad when no one laughs

Bruce apologizes to inanimate objects when he bumps into them. He bumps into them a lot.

Clint needs reading glasses but he simply refuses this fact and instead squints at everything

Thor loves reality TV but doesn't really understand the concept. Either thinks it's the news or a soap opera. His favourite is Dance Moms

Steve has a piggy bank filled with just pennies and is really proud of it. Tony once gave him a penny from 1918 for his birthday and it is still his favourite present

Peter has a ton of commercials memorized and always repeats them when they come on. Including around others when he can hear them but most people aren't even aware the TV has any volume ("it tastes awful and it works", he says out of nowhere, while the Avengers all stare at him eat another forkful of spaghetti)

Bucky hates being perceived and once almost choked to death in public because he just let himself suffocate for a bit. Silently coughing and panicking

Tony hates Bob Ross. It freaks him out how nice and effortlessly talented he is

Natasha adds hot sauce to everything

Clint usually eats kids cereal for breakfast. Especially the chocolate kinds

Steve makes his bed every morning and silently judges those who don't (Tony)
