Baby prince Thrór and the hand of his father, Dáin I
Dwarf Family Lines
Disclaimer: Yes, I know Dís and Thorin II have a brother named Frerin, I will have him on the larger graph coming up.
Movie Version: This was fun! They made Thorin so young and brave / handsome, which is NOT how he is in the book.
Book version: Thorin was Older (195), and is described as having a white beard, while wearing a blue hood / hooded cap with a silver tassel on the end of it. Fili and Kili were similarly described as wearing blue hoods with tassels, and both being blonde!
Yes I made my dwarf women have beards… I like them that way.
When I posted this on other sites I got people trying to tell me that Dís married someone named Vili… but I found that to be fanon (totally fine… but I will just leave him unnamed). Same with the wife of Thráin and Thrór… people had fandom names for them but nothing I could find confirmed in Tolkien’s writings.
@obscuredurins Thrór march | «» Love ✧ Family «» Better times for King Thrór, when he ruled under the mountain.🐦⬛👑
So I need to see Thorin with a long grown beard...(i suppose he cut it in grief after they lost Erebor to the dragon)
Thorin is of Durin's Folk and of course a Longbeard dwarf and these Dwarves literally are known for growing magnificent massive beards.
Quick Longbeard Thorin scketch on sticky-notes
Young Thorin and King Thror example
(i really love these massive beard beads/ornamentations)
Behold, my head cannons for some of the Durin family if they all lived (may continue to update this as I come up with more)
Thror is extremely emotionally constipated. Thorin learned how to cope with his emotions from him
Thror and his brother Gror (Dain’s canon grandfather) are very close, so they were adamant about their children being close as well
Thror doesn’t talk about his wife. After she died, it was as if he lost a piece of himself. She is the one who helped him through his toughest times, after all
Thror and his wife rebuilt Erebor together. It was their kingdom. Their fresh start
Thrain wasn’t the best father but he also wasn’t the worst. He tried and that’s what mattered to his kids.
Thrain would take many trips to the Iron Hills, even after Erebor fell, and always took his kids with him for family bonding
Thrain was a bit of an asshole to Thorin when Erebor fell, expecting him to watching Frerin, Dis, and Balin while they traveled
Thrain promised Thorin he would return to him when he left the blue mountains, but obviously was kidnapped by Sauron (dw, Thorin and Dain rescued him)
Thorin was 1000% a grandaddies boy (if you’ve read my latest fic, My Heart You Opened, you would know this head cannon of mine)
Thorin struggled a lot with what happened to his father. On the one hand, he had a bit of resentment towards his father for putting too much pressure on him. On the other, he still loves his dad and sometimes just wand to cry and hug him
Thorin never thought he was capable of love because he’s attracted to hobbits and had not met one before until Bilbo
Thorin learned how to play harp from his mother. The harp he plays in Bilbo’s house is hers, and he takes very special care of it
Frerin was a bit of a problem child. There was never a dull moment with him, but it was egged on by Thorin
Frerin had multiple kids with different women since he’s a bit of player, but he still loves all his children. He makes sure to give equal time to all of them and raises them like siblings, even giving all their moms a lot of money and support
Frerin is a VERY bad influence on Fili and Kili. Most of their pranks and tricks were taught by him. He helps them get into all sorts of mischief, and is their number one defender when Dis finds out
Frerin is very in tune with his emotions. So when Thorin crashes from ignoring too many of his own, Frerin is the one to sit beside him and help work through everything
Dis is not a warrior. It makes no sense for her to be an incredible fighter and not go on the quest for Erebor. Instead, I think she is very logical. She’s an expert at all things running a kingdom, and Thorin often turns to her for advice
Dis is a daddy’s girl. She was a little extra pampered since Thrain did always want a daughter, and it’s kind of obvious to all three kids
Dis has had many lords assume she’s either male or that she is Thorin because her beard is longer than his. She prefers pants for meetings because it’s more comfortable while sitting, adding to the confusion
Dis and Bilbo are BESTIES. He is her brother even before she knew he and Thorin were engaged. She actually met Bilbo at a bar where she saw his courting bride, which sparked an hour long conversation. Since she didn’t know it was her brother Bilbo was talking about, she now knows wayyyyyy to much about how Thorin is in bed
in the book, king thror leaves his children and people to try and take back moria with a single companion, and ends up getting killed because of it. then some decades later, thrain leaves his children and people to try and take back erebor with only a small group of dwarves, and ends up getting captured and killed because of it.
how must it have felt then, to hear thorin announcing that he's gathered a company of merely 13 dwarves to try and take back the lonely mountain from smaug?
Love it when not-goldsick Thror shows up in fanfics and he’s just a normal guy
Aight. Here we are.
Thrór, [Ex.] King under the mountain.
