Content with her ordinary life, Lyra is somewhat of a wallflower. However, her comfortable lifestyle suddenly goes astray when she accidentally plunges into the world of sirens. Entangled in a curse, Lyra will learn that her world may be a lot bigger than she had ever imagined.

Osomatsu-san Episode 24 Matsu’s and 月

Others have probably mentioned this already, but one of the things I really loved about episode 24 was how clear Karamatsu’s care for his brothers showed through his actions.

First of all, Karamatsu did not want to use violence. Was he upset when Osomatsu hurt Jyuushimatsu? Why, of course. However, did he respond with violence right away? 

The answer is no. In spite of seeing how Osomatsu had kicked Jyuushi (who was now apologizing, terrified and utterly confused), Karamatsu placed a hand on his shoulder and calmly told him to stop. It wasn’t until the former turned to him with an aggressive “HAA?!” (thus, showing no signs of wanting to talk things out in a peaceful manner) that Karamatsu punched him straight in the face, simply because that was the fastest way to catch him off guard. If not, Osomatsu might have started a fight right then and there. As far as I remember, Osomatsu is known as the better fighter among them, hence why Karamatsu had no choice but to act fast.

Also…

Despite the provoking things that were thrown at him, Karamatsu did not reply — not even once. He didn’t even try to explain himself. How Osomatsu and the rest thought of him at that moment didn’t matter at all because Karamatsu’s first priority was to get his eldest brother out of the room. When parents (or adults in general) argue, they often forget that others (sometimes children) are present, carefully observing. Obviously, this kind of thing would make those involved appear as bad role models. Karamatsu dragged Osomatsu with him not only to calm his brother down, but also to save his image as the oldest brother. Think about it: What if Osomatsu had lost his cool even more in front of the others? How sad would that make Choromatsu, considering it was his special day? How heartbreaking would it be for the younger matsus (and their parents) to watch Oso and Kara — the two eldest siblings — argue loudly, call each other names, exchange punches, and sputter hurtful words? Karamatsu wanted none of that. He couldn’t stand watching Osomatsu hurt their younger brother, and felt the need to tell him off, but not by making him look bad in front of the rest. 

I’m not saying that Osomatsu doesn’t care about his siblings — he does (which was probably why he got frustrated in the first place, and Karamatsu understands this). However; whenever Osomatsu isn’t able to carry the burden of being that one caring, selfless, older brother, Karamatsu is there to help out and set him straight because that’s what family members do. Karamatsu might be ignored and laughed at as the “painful” sibling, but he’s definitely a great older brother who cares deeply about everyone and isn’t afraid to show it — even if he has to punch someone in the face.
