Logged back on for the first time in like, I dunno, years, since Twitter is going down in flames. Who's still around here?
Don't go to law school
I finally paid off my law school loans. Let this post be a lesson as to why you shouldn't go to law school unless you can do it cheaply.
It took me 9 years to pay back loans. My original principal was $181,000 (I went to a very expensive law school in a very expensive city). When I started interest rates on Grad Plus and stafford loans ranged between 6.55-8.5. I refinanced most of my loans a few years after graduation when SoFi became a thing to about 4.5%. In total, I have paid $278,379.60.
So I repeat-don't go to law school.
Reminder:VOTE
That is all.
There's one good thing Trump did
When I first met my husband almost 15 years ago, he was a registered Republican. Yesterday he told me we needed to go get yard signs for the Democrat running for every race in our district this year. So there's one good thing to come out of this disaster of a presidency. #thankstrump
I am Internet Old.
Today in "am I really that old?," I logged in to my Amazon account and noticed it has a "Customer since" date. Â Turns out I've been an Amazon customer for more of my life than not. Â
I saw the trailer for Red Sparrow before Black Panther. This is just the Black Widow movie we all want and Marvel will never make with the names changed and no one has super powers, right?
fun fact about the next avengers film being filmed in edinburgh: theyâve blocked off certain areas which is disrupting one specific postal vanâs delivery route which is in turn leading to an awkward stand-off at the police station because Marvel Studios might be a billion dollar company but this man really wants to do his job and apparently interfering with the course of the Royal Mail technically counts as treason so theyâre at a stalemate
this is the best thing iâve heard all day
Scotland, everybody.
Who would win in a fight: a billion dollar superhero film franchise at the top of its game or one (1) Scottish mailman.
HOLY SHIT
DO THE PRETTY BUG MURDER. If only just for seeing and experiencing Nashville. Nashville is beautiful. I adored it. Pretty bug murder was just an added bonus.
Thanks, my dear. The Northern Lights are a bucket list item for me and I adore fireworks, so pretty bug murder is absolutely something Iâm very interested in. I had no idea fireflies were so pretty.
Toddler artielu makes me read a Daniel Tiger (that will mean nothing to people without small kids in their lives) book where he sees fireflies and fireworks at least a couple times a week, so she would be stoked af to see fireflies irl. And mr artielu loves live music and whiskey and bbq so maybe Nashville and pretty bug murder are a legit possibility.
I will never get over the fact youâve never seen lightning bugs. Or heard cicadas. We used to catch them as kids. How do people not experience this???
But also Iâm not sure my toddler has seen them because heâs usually asleep before they come out.
I will take you all over the east coast we will see them at Charleston and Savannah and Nashville and Clingmanâs Dome.
I have never ever heard of Clingmanâs Dome and nope, never heard a cicada, but ok Iâll follow you anywhere, boo. @alchemistc can come on pretty bug murder road trip and our husbands will stay home and watch our toddlers? Dare to dream.
You donât have cicadas, either?! This whole exchange blows my mind. Come east in the summer. Go to Georgia or South Carolina. Stop at a little roadside farm stand and buy a fresh peach (so much better than store bought or peaches from anywhere else). Eat said peach while watching fireflies and listening to cicadas. Lots of people hate summer in the South because itâs so hot, but itâs one of my favorite seasons for all these reasons.
I am fortunate to have access to incredible fruit because Iâm in the bay area and our farmersâ markets are insane. I buy stone fruit, especially nectarines, which are my favorite, from Kashiwase https://cuesa.org/seller/kashiwase-farms.
That said, Iâm 10000% down to eat a meal of fresh Georgia peaches in a summer evening while watching fireflies from the porch. Arenât cicadas hella annoying though?
I mean, the cicadas are loud, but I don't think they're annoying. They're just the sound of summer. And when they molt, they leave creepy shells behind that you can stick on people's clothing, because yes, children do chase each other around with cicada shells. Or at least my brother and I did.
â90â˛s-inspiredâ
â Dripping in ivory embellishment, this 90âs-inspired silhouette features a sheer, raw-edge hem.â
Iâm looking for rehearsal dinner dresses and one contained that description. JFC, Iâm old enough that the decade of my childhood is now old enough to inspire something.

To all of my california friends who canât miss fireflies because they havenât ever seen them.
^ what? do they not have fireflies in CA??????????
Nope! They donât really live west of the rockies. The first time I saw them in Ohio, I thought I was hallucinating.
I didnât realize they werenât out west. Theyâre so iconic
NoâŚnone in the Desert Southwest. The idea of them is enchanting. The only time Iâve ever âseenâ them was at the Blue Bayou restaurant in Disneyland. Itâs an effect in the background of the Pirates of the Caribbean ride.
Hey Congress, how about instead of offering thoughts and prayers this time, you offer some fucking meaningful gun regulation legislation?
Solo Lando: A Star Wars Story (2018)
#even if literally everything about this movie is terrible   #I am glad that someone on set remembered that lando is the best-dressed man in the entire galaxy far far away   #and this person sat down with donald glover and said âlisten the entire character concept here is âwhat if you were so charming & beautiful   #& ultimately deeply earnest that no one minded being conned by you?ââ   #I appreciate that anonymous soul   #they understand me and I them   #star wars   #solo a star wars story   Â

âWhile I share your contempt for this situation in which we find ourselves, do not mistake it as apathy,â he hissed through gritted teeth, dark eyes burning. âI hardly expect your disposition to sweeten, but I will be damned if I allow my future Empress to behave in a manner that reflects poorly on me and on the First Order!â
âIf you allow?â She wrenched her arm out of his viselike grasp, batting his hand away for good measure. âI donât belong to you. I donât belong to anyone.â
âThat might have been the case back when you were a scavenger on that pitiful scrap heap of a planet, but now?â His sardonic gaze flickered over her silk robes and the jewels woven through her elaborate braids. âNow you are the Chume'da, and the Chume'da belongs to her people. Their fate is entirely in your hands. Should you cross the line, it is they who will suffer for it. Am I making myself clear?â
âI hate you,â she said bitterly.
He sneered at her. âSee? Already you are acclimatizing so well to married life.â

So I have never read a Star Wars novel. Thereâs a ton of references in this fic that I am not fully appreciating. I feel like a tourist, kind of. And as you may recall, I definitely did not start out shipping them.
But.
This fic is fantastic. FANTASTIC. I am enjoying it immensely.
Consider joining me in this dumpster, my friends. Turns out that itâs delightfully angsty and far more nuanced and complicated that when I was indifferent or anti this ship. I have been completely converted through fic, including this piece of brilliance.
for the next Reboot That Makes Men Angry Iâd like to submit for your consideration Lupita Nyong'o as Indiana Jones
and she steals artifacts from museums and returns them to their rightful cultures
Oh my god, imagine the Indiana Jones temple-robbing scenes in reverse! She walks through the Scorpion pit, she ducks under the swinging axe, she jumps the spike trap⌠She pulls the idol from her bag and gently places it back on the altar. Then she walks out without looking back while all around her, the temple settles back down into tranquility.
The beginning of the movie would start with a heist to rob the museum which would make it a double adventure heist movie.
