He looks so hopeful here, but he also looks really settled. I always like to imagine Fred sitting in his living room, watching Jughead retrieve a ladder from the Cooper family garage, chuckling to himself, “go get her, son.”

I really like how Cole Sprouse portrays Jughead because he does this thing where when he’s not totally confident, he fidgets and burrows into himself. He’s always moving like he’s not comfortable in his own skin, he’s always playing with his hands or shrugging his shoulders, or slouching. It’s really well done. It’s very teenaged. He’s often very still around Betty. He’s very still around people he trusts, or in situations where he is in control. It’s a great motif. I also really love it whenever he eats while thinking and sleuthing or scheming. That’s really well done. He’s got food for thought.

I think we’re all sleeping on the fact that Jughead Jones is the type of guy who would find domestic things incredibly sexy as hell. Like yeah his girlfriend can burn down an entire trailer without getting caught, but look at how she folds that laundry or pulls that roast out of the oven.

I totally believe that Jughead first fell in love with the idealized world that Betty promised, and then re-met the real young woman after a summer of her being away, and was like…wow. She’s a real person with real struggles, and her realness made her more than an unobtainable perfect girl, it made her human to love. But I still totally believe that Jughead is a hardcore romantic and fantasizes about a really domestic life, this very woke Rockwellian world.
