Romance feels like a foreign yet fascinating concept, growing up with cliche love stories and seeing people around me fall in and out of love seemed like a fantasy I could never reach. For a long time, I felt I was missing out on a key human experience. I’ve never fallen in love the way people describe, I’ve never known what a crush felt like nor did I ever feel attraction in those ways. It took me years to fully accept this part of myself and it took even longer to realize that it doesn’t stop me from loving.

Love to me is an action, to me love is putting in the effort to understand someone and showing up for them. To me love is being your truest self with someone. It may not innately be romantic, but to me it is what love is. I love my family, I love animals, my friends, my hobbies, I am FULL of love. And I want to share my love with someone else, even if it isn't fully romantic.

I love how I love and that's okay.

Often times, I feel like I'm a mystery

My escence is cast in shadows

My thoughts scramble

My presence is unknown

My words hide behind my lips

And my curiosity is a dead fire

Other times, I feel like an open book

The pages flip and turn with words that spill and overflow

My thoughts escape into the air like a storm

I ramble on until no end

And my questions spark and shine like stars

Sometimes, I’m a walking contradiction

I lock and throw away the key to my secrets

While also giving free blueprints about myself

My words can flood and drown everything out

My thoughts can jump and scatter all around

And my curiosity is a dim lit candle in the dark

While I waste away,

I dance and spark and set the entire place ablaze

My thoughts are a sight to behold and amaze

My words are the shadows that move and flow with the flickering light

Hi everyone!

So I've gotten a few questions on my old Tiktok acc what this poem was abt and my past with poetry!

I was first introduced to poetry in elementary school and I LOVED it. Dude all those other kids may complain but deep down that is the second thing I love to read and write if it's not drawing or playing my viola.

Over the years, I noticed the only times I write poetry are when I'm in a mood... usually sad or angry. Which brings me to this poem! Cuz I came to a realization that no one really knew me.

I’ve been told by many that I am a very curious person, and while that is true! I love asking questions, I love understanding others, and I love seeing someone for who they are. It is often not reciprocated if ever. So I tried my best to rlly capture that in this poem. From feeling like a mystery to everyone around me if I didn't talk about myself to feeling like an explosive of over explanation.
