2nd Edition DnD Character Kits...
I always hated the "Kensai" sword saint character kit in 2nd edition, he would always just beat the fuck out of dudes with his overpowered attacks...anyone else agree?

Behold, true cinematic excellence from The Danish & OāNeill.
Choosing Not to Be a Bad Ass: Turning The Witcher 2 Into The Big Lebowski
Andrew DeWitt
Recently on Gamedians I revealed that I chose to let the main antagonist of The Witcher 2 walk away free at the end of the game instead of choosing to fight him. While the other guys ragged me for making the end of the game āanticlimacticā I stand by this decision as one of the best gaming choices Iāve ever made. Why? Arenāt game supposed to be action packed and donāt we look forward to defeating the final boss in every video game? Yes of course. However, as video games are evolving so is the writing within video games. The world of The Witcher is not black and white and the game allows you to choose from a myriad of decisions that shape the entire course of the game.
Some people play Geralt as a man bent on revenge who wants to hunt down the person who killed his king and ruined his reputation. I played Geralt like The Big Lebowski, a dude who just wanted to be left the fuck alone so he could bang chicks and make his own way in the world. And you know what? That totally worked for me. Sitting there at the end of the game, drinking vodka with Letho, the antagonist who you find out used to be a close friend before you lost your memory and who has even helped you throughout the game when he could, I felt sad that I would have to fight and kill this guy. Imagine my surprise when I found out that not only did I have the option to sit down for a drunken chat with an old friend but that I could walk away from the fight entirely. Having heard all the facts and taking into account how I had decided to play Geralt, I didnāt need a boss fight. All at once suddenly felt something truly unique in my video game playing history: I felt like I had made a real decision.
Choosing not to fight Letho gave me the same feelings that I would get when I completed a truly awesome adventure in Dungeons and Dragons. It felt like I was important to the story. I was an active part of the game, I was choosing how I wanted the game to end. I already felt like the ultimate badass, having mastered combat, leveled up and killed countless monsters and people. I simply didnāt need to fight one more battle to prove anything. I let Letho walk away and I couldnāt be happier about it. Maybe it was the fact that there was no traditional ātotally evilā villain in the game that caused me to make this choice. If that is the case then I hope more games explore creating realistic characters like this whoās reason for fighting is that they have opposing goals not that one is wearing a white cape and the other is wearing a black one. Ā
Not being a traditional hero was extremely freeing for me. I felt like I got to truly bring my own personality to the entire game. Instead of hunting down an evil mayor I decided to save a group of hot elven women who later banged me in thanks. Instead of killing a strange demonic succubus I worked for her and took a hearty demon hump session as payment. Instead of using my money from quests on armor upgrades and new equipment, I did what I think almost everyone would really do, I got wasted at the tavern and spent all my money on whores. Instead of attacking and killing a woman who betrayed me, I went on a quest as her bodyguard, found an ancient device and instead of keeping it let her have after I used it once. Then later I met her at a tavern and you know I hit that, bro.
Making these seemingly stupid choices just to score some extra trim may seem moronic, however, it may actually be one of the most realistic things Iāve ever encountered in a video game. Ask yourself, honestly, if you were transported to a medieval fantasy world would you spend all your free time researching weapon upgrades or would you buy a fancy room in an inn and hire a few hookers to ease the soul crushing loneliness of being a hero? I donāt know about you but I know what Iād do.
