The Wall
Colombia records 1979
Okay here is another beauty from my collection, a true classic that changed a whole generation and still holds its place today! The Wall, what can I say that has not already been said? It is great, has an amazing message when related to the specific era that it was written in, and stays prominent so that people listen to it today! My copy has gone through hell itself as seen in the water damage inside, it made it through a huge house flood and was one of the few things that we could keep. It spins great, always putting my speakers in their place, cranking out David Gilmour's solos and rocking Roger Waters' vocals. All in all, a classic album that even if you can't track down a copy, you need to listen to it and give it the good ol' start to finish experience!
My favorite tracks:
Hey You
Comfortably Numb
Waiting for the Worms

The Killers, Day & Age, 2008, Island, Black.
The Killers’ third, and “more playful” album, Day & Age breaks the mold of both Hot Fuss, and Sam’s Town with a fitting in the Dance-Rock category.
Day & Age brings a lot to the table, including hits like Human, Spaceman, and depending on your location in the world, A Dustland Fairytale, or The World We Live In. Although, the sounds kind of fall between Hot Fuss, and Sam’s Town, it doesn’t feel as if the band tried to go back to Hot Fuss as much as they wanted to make something new, which is a bonus.
If you’re lucky enough to grab the vinyl album, you’ll be treated to an almost full size download code, that features the band on the back (you could frame it), as well as a poster that features the album cover, with the reverse side being the singles covers.
Suggested tracks:
All of them. This is an album that I can honestly say “I can listen to this album front to back” and mean it.
Although some say it’s not their best, I love it down to my bones.
Pick it up.

The Killers Sawdust 2007 Black
A compilation album, “Sawdust” was released in 2007, featuring “B Sides and rarities” as well as remixes, and covers recorded from 2002 until 2007.
Along side the compilation, there were two singles released: Shadowplay, a joy division cover, also used in the film “Control”. As well as Tranquilize, a single spearheading the project alongside the great Lou Reed.
Recommended Tracks, -Tranquilize, featuring Lou Reed, -Shadowplay, a Joy Division cover, -Leave The Bourbon On The Shelf, the beginnings of the “Murder Trilogy” (Leave The Bourbon On The Shelf, Midnight Show, Jenny Was A Friend of Mine) -Sweet Talk -Under The Gun (Also found on the special edition of Hot Fuss) -Move Away, used on the soundtrack for Spider-Man 3. -The Ballad Of Michael Valentine (Also found on the special edition of Hot Fuss) And -Romeo and Juliet, a Dire Straits cover.
Seeing as these are just the scraps of the 2002-2007 years, there are hopes that there could be a companion album, or a “Sawdust 2” spanning from 2007 to 2013 or 2014.
If you happen to stumble upon this album, pick it up. It’ll be worth the time.
-Chris
The Killers Hot Fuss 2004, Island Records Translucent Dark Blue How often does a band come along with a debut album that delivers more than one song for everybody to learn by heart almost a decade later? In my mind, that title is firmly grasped by The Killers with their debit album: Hot Fuss. I’m lucky to have this, let alone the two times I have owned it, seeing the expense I could be paying for it now. It’s a beautiful start to a beautiful career of a beautiful band. Recommended Tracks: Aside from Mr. Brightside, Somebody Told me, All These Things That I’ve Done, and Smile Like You Mean It, there are a few more tracks on the album worth your time. Deep Tracks: - Jenny Was A Friend Of Mine - On Top - Change Your Mind - Believe Me Natalie - Everything Will Be Alright - Under The Gun (if you can get your hands on a deluxe version, otherwise you can pick up The Killers’ compilation album “Sawdust”) I can’t stress enough about how much I recommend this album. If you say you can’t enjoy a single track on here, that’s your opinion. But your opinion is wrong. -Chris
Dropkick Murphys
Do or Die
Hellcat Records re-press originally 1997
Tan Splatter Vinyl /500
Here is a great punk record, the one that put the Dropkick Murphys on the map! Early Irish punk from the masters of the genre, this record is loud and proud from start to finish, throwing punches the whole time! It rocks and on top of that it was pressed on vinyl again after being out of print for over a decade! This release is pretty hard to find so if you find it i suggest giving it a spin, plus this record features the original singer from the start, a real treat for those who are used to how they sound now! (Not that they sound worse now, it is just a completely different sound!) All in all this is a great classic record that any punk lover should have in their collection!

Willy Moon
Railroad Track / Bang Bang
Third Man Records 2012
7''
Killer Singles in the area! This 7'' is a killer set of tracks by the artist Willy Moon. It is like the sound you would want to hear at the end of a cult classic movie, kind of sums things up in a melancholy feeling of sadness and hard fought victory. Railroad Track will have you tappin' your feet and whistling along until the very end, and Bang Bang will accompany you as you walk into the solemn sunset. This single 7'' is like nothing I have ever heard before and I am in love with it! If you see it, give it a spin because it is the essence of cool! (on a cool side note, I actually got this 7'' when Third Man's Rolling Record Store made its stop in MI this summer! It was super rad!)

Nirvana
Bleach
Sub Pop Records Re-Issue 2013
Hey Folks! Long time no see! (I'm posting in place for Claude because they are under the weather) Anyways here is another cool record I've been dying to post, Nirvana's Bleach! This is a cool record originally released in 1989 as Nirvana's first full length record. It is a re-issue so that means it is easy to find and also boasts a really nice pressing unlike other nirvana pressings I have! A solid powerhouse that is much more undefined and raw than what was to come, but the energy is all out punk grunge Nirvana! It is all there from bigger hits like "Breed" to cool raw tracks that often get overlooked when Nirvana is brought up.
If you like Nirvana, punk, grunge, or just something to get the blood flowing and the nerves shaking, i suggest you give it a spin!

This record is a heavyhitting celebration of loud, righteous, and all around energetic pop punk! A classic set of songs recorded by the Vancouver Powerhouse that keeps putting out some of the coolest music that I've had the pleasure of spinning. If you like a pop punk sound that is borderline true punk, this is the sound for you!

Devo - Hardcore Devo Vol. 2
A collection of highly devolved tracks from before Devo was signed. Lots of experimental stuff here, but there are some glimpses of what Devo would become.

Glenn Miller and his orchestra
string of pearls
common 2xLP
Hey so here is a post that it back to my roots. A common record that I junked out of an antique store for $ 0.50! This record is just happy music that makes me think of a dark, smoky bar in the 1940's and just mellows me out. Chill listenings ahead as you drop the needle on this set of classics! Anything Glenn Miller is pretty easy to find and really cheap, but really great to listen to! Imagine the soundtrack to Fallout 3 or New Vegas and you have the sound. Just happy calm music you could listen to forever!

The Kora Records 2012
2XLP Clear and Pale Yellow
This is by far one of my most prized records. I know that I have said that a lot recently in my reviews but that is because I keep reviewing my favorites because I always have so much to say about them. That being said, this is going to be long but the record (and the band) deserve every word of praise they get! I have been following this band since I first found a couple tracks on youtube in 2009. This record can be summed up in its creator's words as you listen to the track spore: “I like the idea of someone refusing to feel lonely, despite how utterly alone they might actually be,” Knopf explains. “It’s a form of rebellion.” It is such a powerful song that sets the framework for the whole album. It is heartfelt, strong, and emotionally moving.
The record itself is a masterpiece. It is actually cut at 45rpm whick allows for less compression in the audio recording and ups the quality of sound, a common theme with the recording in general of the album. It is beautifully recorded and flows seamlessly from track to track. One such example is how the key theme follows from a haunting fade out in the track "Brevony" into an opening piano lead from the next track "Proof." On top of that the artwork in the album is stunning with it being printed on a matte stock so details can really show without being covered by a gloss. The records are interesting in color with the first being a smoky clear that is just slightly blue-green, and the second is a beautiful pastel yellow. Finally, the press itself is near flawless especially for a colored vinyl and just sounds amazing!
The tracks are all amazing and this album gets my highest recommendation for a listen above anything else. It is flawless, beautiful, and moving from start to finish.
Tracks you should listen to right now:
The Space Between Lightning and Thunder
Spore
Archimedes Plutonium
Fingerhold
Brevony
There are two extra tracks bonus on the press as well as in the digital download so if you can snatch a copy don't hesitate! 100% recommendation!
Joanna Newsom - Ys
This is one of my all time favorite albums. Joanna Newsom has an ethereal voice and a beautiful way of weaving together elaborate stories in each of her songs. When listening to Ys, you are immediately transported to a forest full of moss and ponds with streams, inhabited with swans and songbirds, and you can imagine Joanna sitting in the middle of it with her harp, singing her heart out. The emotion expressed by her voice is astounding, and paired with the lilting tune of the harp and the weaving string orchestra leaves you feeling at peace and completely intrigued.
There are only five songs on this album, but they are all long. The longest is Only Skin at 16:53, and the shortest is Cosmia at 7:17. The album cover is adorned with a portrait of Joanna with intricate detailing. When you open up the cover, you will find a quaint songbook with all of the lyrics and etched illustrations.
I recommend this album to someone who likes folky orchestral music with poetic lyrics. It is mostly for listening to at home; this music makes terrible driving music (I mean, I like it but..no one else seems to). Listen to this album when you feel emotional about the forest or nature. or beauty in general. I feel emotional about the forest a lot.
-Claude (sorry if this post doesnt make sense i literally cannot articulate how special this album is....)
The Killers
Sam’s Town
Island Records, 2006,
Picture Disc.
In an attempt to bring a quality successor to their debut album, Hot Fuss, The Killers released this gem, Sam’s Town.
Following up Hot Fuss with a different, more American, sound had to have been risky. Although the idea of sound progression for most bands is a bit “hit and miss”, The Killers struck oil.
The Picture disc isn’t too different, but nice enough to add to the collection, featuring the album cover for the A side, and a Ram’s head for the B side, a nice nod to those who owned the CD.
Any album that packages a fold out poster of anything, is a great album to own. The images in the gate are too wonderful, and I hope to purchase a copy to frame them.
If you’re looking for a nice synth sound with a lot of heartland rock (maybe sprinkle a little Springsteen in there), Sam’s Town is the way to go.

When You Were Young,
Bones,
For Reasons Unknown,

Say Anything - ...Is a Real Boy/...Was a Real Boy (Doghouse Records, 2004)
Oxblood Red (2xLP) | /1000
"And the record begins with a song of rebellion"
These words, said ironically or not by the band's frontman/genius Max Bemis, open the tour-de-force that is the first track off of Say Anything's second (usually thought of the first because of the oft-forgetten debut "Baseball") record, ",,,Is a Real Boy". And what follows these words are a deep look into the inner workings of the mind of Bemis, and criticisms of music critics/the music industry in general. To be honest, I've never, EVER heard lyrics that are more honest and frank from any band, and they're also often humorous and self-deprecating, which shouldn't be surprising because Bemis literally went crazy creating this album. But the result of his madness is actually quite extraordinary. Like said before, many tracks, including "Yellow Cat/Red Cat" "Woe" and the aforementioned opener "Belt", give you a deep and introspective (well, maybe) look into his mind, while songs like "An Orgy of Critics" and "Admit It!!!" are seething criticisms of the music industry, with Admit It!!! having probably the most passionate vocal performance that I've ever heard.
Also included on this 2xLP set is the follow up EP "...Was a Real Boy", which in my honest opinion isn't really that notable, besides the satirical opener "Wow, I Can Get Sexual Too", and the fantastic "I Will Never Write an Obligatory Song About Being on the Road and Missing Someone" . Also included on this set is a re-recorded version of SA fan favorite "Walk Through Hell".
All in all, this was a very VERY influential album on the "Emo/Pop Punk/Indie Rock/Post-Hardcore (as Wiki says it)" scene in general, and on me.

Okay, so everyone should have at least listened to this album at some point of their life. It truly is a classic. This record alone put grunge on the map and created a sound of the nineties! This record is just a heavy hitting onslaught of angry, loud, and energetic music. I will admit that the press is not by any means perfect, but for a vinyl pressing that emerged from the time when vinyl was truly dead, it is actually pretty decent. This record is the prefect album to spin when you just need to go and be angry, or are just having a rough day! I love it and I really think that for a band that came and went in the blink of an eye, they really left their mark on the world.
