I love when I have garden visitors. This guy is a Green Treefrog (Hyla cinerea). They always love the wells of my bromeliads.

Clivia miniata. This is one of my favorite houseplants. It’s a relatively slow grower, but when it rewards you with flowers like this who can complain?

The crowns of the Gunnera tinctoria (Chilean rhubarb, giant rhubarb) were being protected from the cold temperatures of the coming winter by inverting the old foliage on top of them and securing the large leaf blades by skewering them with the petioles (leaf stalks). This large, robust herbaceous perennial forms a spreading clump and thrives in damp locations.

Veronica chamaedrys, Plantaginaceae

Known as Germander speedwell, this native plant, along with other members of the Veronica genus, is easily recognisable due to the blue, small zygomorphic flowers which grow along the often creeping stems. It reminds me of my paternal granny because the similar V. persica grew abundant in her garden and she used to call the flowers Eyes of Mary, as they are called in Milanese dialect.

The plant is pictured growing in open grassland, on the hills south of Glasgow.
