So to be 100% clear:
tumblr just added an update that requires you to verify your age in order to view "mature content". I'm not sure how they do the verification (haven't yet checked), but given recent similar updates from things like Discord, it most likely involves sending them a photo of either your face or your ID.
In addition, over the past few months, and also years in the long-term, tumblr has been incorrectly marking things as mature content. These include:
Notifications about missing persons and requests for help
Posts about youth liberation
Posts about sex education
Posts about how the mature content is poorly implemented
Posts about being trans, more specifically about trans women and transmisogyny by both tumblr and users on tumblr
Non-sexual selfies by trans women/transfems
Trans womens'/transefems' ENTIRE BLOGS even if the blog contains no sexual content
Reblogs made by various blogs, mostly trans women, which add no additional content but somehow are marked as containing mature content, when the original post is not
Posts talking about racism and antiblackness both on and off tumblr
Posts by black people, especially black trans people, that are non-sexual
And likely many more I haven't seen
In essence, this update has mandated that a majority of users (within the UK and Brazil) must either a) submit their personal information to tumblr, a website whose moderation has been EXTREMELY biased against marginalised people and who I would not trust with my ID, or b) be excluded from absolutely all conversations tumblr decides are "mature content", whether they are actually sexual in nature or not. Furthermore, anyone not over 18 will also not be allowed to take part in these conversations, or even see them, or interact with many trans women or people of colour on this site, as tumblr decides.
This update is complete bullshit designed to censor and exclude marginalised people, poorly hidden under a guise of "protecting teenagers from sexual content", and they know it.
EDIT: This update apparently only affects users in the UK or Brazil, like me. This is still bullshit even if it's just some people.
It Is As If You Were Making Love is a bizarre little game in which you move your computer’s slider to bring it to climax (after all those visits to PronHub it’s probably the least you can do for your computer!)

we gotta get back to torrent distribution, i just watched someone eat eight grand in bandwidth charges because they ran a direct-download piracy site with local file hosting through cloudflare. torrents were invented literally for this exact reason
torrents work like this
i have a file or folder on my pc that i want to share with other people. let's call it gayshit.mp3
unfortunately gayshit.mp3 is 750mb and im not paying for discord nitro so i need another way to send it
i put it into qbittorrent and it makes a torrent file. this is essentially a very small file that points to gayshit.mp3 so other computers can find it. kinda like a treasure map
i send this tiny file to my friend, who loads it into qbittorrent. their computer takes a moment to find mine over the vast expanse of cyberspace and then (as long as my pc is running and the file is still where it should be), it gets copied from my hard drive to theirs
this is the cool part: if somebody else loads that tiny file, they can download it from both of us. if i'm offline but my friend is on, the third person can still get it. this also means that if two people have separate halves of the file, they can download the other half from each other. as long as some combination of people have the pieces between them, they can all have the whole thing.
crucially this does not require a server!!! you can just upload the file to a few people and as long as they keep it, it's still accessible. as long as somebody, somewhere is still connected, it's available forever. the only way it goes away is if everybody disconnects from it.
please learn to torrent

always use qbittorrent, do not use bittorrent or utorrent.

Raccoon Sam, the one whom recently ripped sprites from Klonoa: Door to Phantomile, appears to be working on full English translations for Moonlight Museum and Heroes. Right now, he is asking for assistance concerning deciphering the text graphics in Heroes. (The small kanji characters may be a little hard to discern?) If you know how to help out, throw him a DM on twitter.
Currently, there are two ways to play these games in English partially. The story is fully translated but with many graphics still left in Japanese.

An English logo for Klonoa Heroes has been made [1] and extraction of the games script now works. [2]
hello fellow artists. google has fallen. pinterest/duckduckgo AI filters don't work. do not despair; here is a list i made of places to find reference images without having to sift through piles of worthless garbage. (for future editing convenience i am just linking my blog post on dreamwidth.)
✨ good places to find art reference that are not full of AI trash 🌈
THANK YOU SO MUCH! I have been despairing as it is so hard now to find references and photos of succulents and other things for my designs!! T_T

trying to create an ebay account to sell smthn and tell me why I can't use my REAL LEGAL LAST NAME because it includes "dick" which ebay considers offensive
BUT THEN IN THEIR MISREPRESENTATION POLICY THEY SAY YOU CAN'T COLLECT MONEY TO A BANK ACCOUNT THAT'S NOT IN YOUR BUSINESS OR LEGAL NAME. BUT MY LEGAL NAME INCLUDES DICK, WHICH YOU CONSIDER OFFENSIVE.
the sanitization of the internet is so fucking stupid we live in the stupidest time
there is a name for this and it's been an issue as long as the internet has been around

does only linguistics do squibs? you other fields are all are missing out squibs are great. just write a paper thats like huh isnt this weird. ok thats it im done :)
A squib, to me, is a small explosive device used to simulate a bullet impact for filmmaking purposes. Can you elaborate on what it is in linguistics? Because now I'm curious.
In linguistics, a squib is a short journal article, typically one that doesn't aim to make a deep theoretical argument but reports on some interesting data. The journal Glossa defines a squib for its purposes as "short notes (5,000 words max.) that make a scintillating point by calling attention to a theoretically unexpected observation about language but without the need for a developed analysis or solution."
This is a recent example from Glossa of what I would consider a longish squib of about 14 pages, exploring the difference between the use of singular they to refer to a specific person whose pronouns are they/them vs. using it to refer to an unspecified or generic individual. The squib's goal is just to call attention to the fact that these are two actually different uses of the word they, which should probably be treated separately for the purposes of theoretical analysis; its goal isn't to actually carry out that analysis.
Here's a couple even squibbier squibs from American Speech in 2001, each less than four pages, consisting of just a brief discussion of some point of interest about American English that the authors found interesting and wanted to call attention to but that there isn't that much to say about: the emergence of the use of the word of in expressions like not that big of a deal, and the use of the with freeway numbers in Southern California (as in, take the 405).

Scrolled down the MF DOOM tag trying to find the mac and cheese image and I couldn't so anyway here it is literally one of my favourite images of all time
very important that you include MF DOOM's Villainous Mac and Cheese Recipe alongside this image
What with bucket hats, bare midriffs, and flared jeans having been resurrected by some irresponsible necromancer with frosted tips, I figure there’s no better time to resurrect some of my favorite Y2K fonts. I typically only see the same three or four pop up in discussions on the subject, so maybe this will be helpful to nostalgic designers. Click though for links.

Honorable mention to Yeoman Jack, an excellent free modern face by Iconian that looks more like it’s from the early 2000s than many of their actually 20 year old fonts. I tried to stick to fonts that I was pretty sure were not based on an existing typeface. I only left out Typodermic because Ray Larabie’s work is already so popular and well known, but Neuropol is obviously a classic. Check out his stuff if you’re nor familiar.
We need an alternative to doesthedogdie cause they’ve started fucking paywalling warnings that include timestamps for triggering moments.
