I thought I might share one of my new tattoos. A couple years ago, a dear friend and I coined the term “fish bag moment”
A fish bag moment might be sitting all alone in an empty new apartment after coming out and upending your life, or starting a new job in a brand new line of work because it’s closer to your dreams
It’s what happens when you take a leap of faith or make a hard decision for yourself, when the future is so hard to visualize and everything feels scary. You’re just a fish in a bag and you can’t see where you’re going
But you’re on your way to a bigger aquarium
In honor of a relatively unexpected and sudden transition in my life, I tried my hand at sculpting my beloved fish bag. Let’s hope the kiln is kind ❤️
It didn’t just survive the kiln, it thrived ❤️ to anyone out there who needs to hear it right now, rest assured: even if the path forward seems unclear, you’re on your way, and I’m proud of you
at some point in your life you will be boiling fruit, water, sugar, and lemon juice in a pot to make a syrup or jam. the instructions will tell you to simmer for a certain amt of time. your timer will go off and you will look at the pot and go, "hm, this doesn't look thick enough. maybe i'll let it go for another 10 minutes." this is the devil speaking. it's only so liquid right now because it is at boiling point. it will thicken when it cools down. learn from the follies of my youth and do not let this happen to you
at some point in your life you will be making a sauce or a stew in which you need to add cornstarch to thicken it. and you will prepare a slurry of starch in cold water and think "this looks like way too little starch to thicken this amount of liquid." this is the devil speaking. cornstarch instantly polymerizes at 95°C and if you add too much it will turn into an impossibly thick goop.
at some point in your life you will be making some sort of cream based dessert that requires gelatin to thicken it. and you will soak some gelatin sheets in water and think "this is too few gelatin sheets for this amount of cream." this is the devil speaking. it will thicken in the fridge and if you add too much you will end up with milk jelly
at some point in your life you will be baking cookies. you will take the sheet out after twelve minutes as the recipe instructs and the cookies will still be glistening and soft. "these don't seem cooked enough," you will think to yourself, "i should place them back into the oven until their edges are nice and golden." this is the devil talking. this is how you get dry, overdone cookies. the cookies will continue to bake on the warm sheet for several more minutes and then harden up after sitting on a rack for a while. trust the process. trust the process.
at some point in your life you will be adding a small pasta to a soup and you will think "that is not enough small pasta." this is the devil talking. the pasta will absorb the stock and expand. this is how you end up with a soup that is a solid mass of soggy ditalini.
At some point in your life you will be adding garlic to a dish and you will think "that is not enough garlic." These are angels speaking. They are correct. Add more garlic.
you’re laughing. i told you a joke and you’re laughing. i love you
these are getting weird
I've gotten too offline for this. Why r the notes insisting anyone who drives any car manufactured by tesla is a Nazi. That's Completely nuts
they were the main electric car you heard about for a while so i assume thats why most people have them
maybe orpheus always looks back because his very effort to reverse death means that he can't look forward. if he could look forward, he could accept eurydice's death, grieve, and keep moving in life. his refusal to accept her death is looking back. his going down to the underworld, asking hades and persephone for her life, trying to lead her out... it's all 'looking back'. he does nothing for the entire story except look back. orpheus! looks! back! it's his entire thing! the story ends the same way it begins: orpheus looked back.

At the risk of sounding anti-intellectual, I think that college should be free and also not a requirement for employment outside of highly specialized career fields
At the risk of sounding like an effete intellectual, I do actually think you should be allowed to just take college courses indefinitely
technically you can, if you don't care about degrees.
Free Harvard courses. Free Courses from Stanford. Free Courses from MIT. Free courses from Yale. Free courses from Princeton.
Free courses on Coursera.
Free Courses on EDx Free Courses on Alison
For paid, there's The Great Courses+/Wonderium. 20$ a month for unlimited courses.
When searching, the phrases you're looking for are Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), or you can do a general search of say, "free online college courses." Oh, and so you don't get surprised like I did, have an avoid: Hillsdale College is a conservative Christian site and not a valid MOOC place. Sign up with them and you will get things like THIS IS WHY THE LEFT IS TURNING YOUR KIDS TRANS AND GAY in your inbox.
@yourunderwaterskies I wanted to say thank you so much for adding these links, seriously, they've been life-changingly helpful to me-

if you aren't best friends with your lover and a little bit in love with all your friends than what's the fucking point
There'll be a moment when you realise you're 27 when yesterday you were just 17; and you wouldn't be able to tell how a decade passed away and your life got divided into before and afters. The fury of youth will subdue and nothing will really change but everything will feel different when you look at old photographs and blurry videos taken on cheap mobile phones. Scents will remind you of childhood and certain friends you don't talk to anymore, hangouts will become reunions and mom's burnt pie will become the best food you ever had. And I know on some days you won't be able to show anything of those 10 years but I hope you remember to breathe, and let go of the knot in your chest. I hope you go out in the sun and live a little, because tomorrow is 37.

i really need "villagers from minecraft are antisemetic caricatures" to become a popular enough sentiment for them to finally change their designs somehow
it's literally so brazen like. they're protected by a GOLEM
i think Stucky is such crack to me because it takes 2 of the most traumatized characters and gives them the backstory that even when they had nothing, they had each other. For one, his identity growing up was "and Steve". The little one, the one needing saving. The one always getting into trouble for standing up for what's right.
For the other, his identity of being the strong, capable one was stripped from him. His identity was removed and forgotten and he was sent to kill the last remnant of his soul and he couldn't.
They are perfect foils, they complete each other. Each theme is reinforced by the very existence of the other, it’s insane
How to Podfic: A Highly Biased and Incomplete Tutorial
So, a while ago, some of my friends and fellow cast members of the @sansukhpodfic asked about how to make and edit podfic on their own. I created this tutorial for them, as a supplement to the resources already posted by the Sansukh mods. In the wake of the most recent @auralphonic episode asking for technical advice on podficcing in Audacity, I thought I would polish this up and post it. This tutorial explains how, once you have permission to record a story, you go about turning it into a podfic using Audacity. It focuses on technical and logistical details, rather than artistic advice, and is cobbled together from my own experience, my knowledge of the mathematics behind signal analysis, and other people’s tutorials. There’s lots of communities and resources out there that give advice on the artistic side (Auralphonic, for example, has an episode for newbies), which I recommend checking out.
Disclaimer: There is no one standard method of doing this! This is the method I have found gives me the best results, personally, but there may be better ways to do this. I strongly recommend checking out other resources for comparison.

Dean and Cas do freak4freak shit all the time like Dean feeding Cas water from his own mouth or Cas stripping Dean's clothes off for him after he gets thrown into a lake on a hunt while they have a normal conversation like Cas isn't arranging Dean's body like he owns it, and every time Sam tries to call them out for it, Dean just shrugs and is like "this is just what best friends do, you wouldn't know because you've never had a best friend, it's okay I never had one either until Cas, maybe one day" and Sam is like "that is NOT what best friends do!" But secretly he's like "god, maybe that IS best friends, how would I know, Dean's right, I never had one" and then Dean will stick his hands down Cas's pants because his fingers are cold and Sam will be like "I actually don't fucking want a best friend if that's what's involved"
The natural conclusion of this is of course later down the line during a Dean widower arc/Cas is in trouble arc when Sam is trying to comfort him and is like "hey, Cas is my friend too, I get it" and Dean is like "no you don't get it, I'M HIS WIFE!" and then they both kind of stare at each other like 'what the fuck'
