warrior nun cancelled. first kill cancelled. paper girls cancelled. one day at a time cancelled. the owl house cancelled. im not okay with this cancelled. legacies cancelled. everything sucks cancelled. the babysitters club cancelled. dare me cancelled. i know what you did last summer cancelled. teenage bounty hunters cancelled. the wilds cancelled.
the attitude held towards sapphic media is clear and honestly just appalling. im so sick of this treatment we deserve better than this.
what, from the bottom of my heart, the fuck

Im a sucker for a good enemies-to-lovers ship, especially when there are sapphics involved.
Im rooting for you Maddox and Ashlyn.
New trope alert: Cancell your gays*
*only applies to queer women characters
first kill getting cancelled by netflix just shows that they don't care about wlw representation
i’m just so so so tired of netflix claiming that “representation matters” and having an entire collection dedicated to it, only to continuously cancel their shows with queer characters. from julie and the phantoms to i am not okay with this to teenage bounty hunters to the babysitter’s club to everything sucks to first kill, it’s literally sickening to see how much they try to have the representation and get their queer audience invested only to throw it away like it’s nothing. don’t get me wrong, i’m glad that shows like this exist even if it’s for a fleeting moment and i’m glad shows like heartstopper are doing so well, but it becomes so frustrating to get excited over certain representation and having it pulled from under your feet sooner than it began. i can’t help but notice first kill doing better than heartstopper in it’s first week. i can’t help but notice the show with wlw mains getting cancelled after one season and the show with mlm mains getting renewed for two more. i can’t help but notice the show with a latina lead and an interracial mlm couple getting canceled after one season. i can’t help but notice a show that touched on young queer characters and diabetes and mental health getting canceled after two seasons. i’m just tired. i’m so tired and i really do feel like now is the time to cancel your netflix subscription if you haven’t already because there becomes a point where enough is enough and truly from the bottom of my heart i’ve had enough
so let's see: amazon prime cancels the wilds after its second season after over 2 months since season 2's release before announcing the cancelation (people had criticisms about season 2 but it still got a lot of popularity). but the summer i turned pretty got renewed for a second season before the first one even came out
netflix cancels first kill when it had gotten MILLIONS of viewers especially within its first week and announces its cancellation almost 2 months after season 1 came out, but heartstopper automatically gets renewed for 2 more seasons not long after its release
yes, streaming services hate queer women, but also just women in general. if a female lead of a show doesn't have her storyline circle around a man or two at all, it's not worth the renewal apparently. and if there isn't a male in general for the "female gaze", it's also apparently not worth it either
it's not even the tv shows themselves at this point it's the fact that almost all of our current wlw representation has been cancelled. we're currently facing the threat of our rights being taken away so we find comfort and happiness in shows where we're represented and they get taken away too. it makes me so fucking angry and so fucking sad at the same time, and I just feel defeated
this isn’t just about the fact that sapphic shows get cancelled, it’s about the REASON being that they’re not palatable to straight audiences because straight people STILL aren’t able to see lesbians in the pure sense that they see gay men. no matter what they tell you, they just don’t. it’ll always have a slightly more sexual connotation, a slightly more taboo feel. juliette & cal and toni & shelby were just kids falling in love and doing what teens do and yet people refuse to see in them what they saw in charlie & nick from heartstopper.
