Hijabi Cosplayers!

Last chance to participate in academic research on Muslim cosplayers (esp. hijab wearing)! I have an open ended questionnaire that you can go wild with and write as much as you want for answers. All responses are anonymous.

I have an journal article on the topic coming out now later this year, and I’m reworking it (hopefully with some new respondents) for a chapter on a book about Religion and Fandoms. I would love to hear from more of you...I know you are out there! Feel free to share with those you know who may be interested as well.

It’s now perfectly legal to take upskirts photos in Georgia

For the time being,  it’s completely legal in Georgia to be a sexist creeper who looks up women’s skirts in public without their consent. CBS46 reported that this week, taking an invasive photo of a woman’s body in public is still considered fair game. And it’s all according to a ridiculous legal technicality.

Call for Research subjects: Muslims and cosplay

Hello Tumblr community!

I am a religious studies scholar who also happens to be a nerd/geek and I’m doing research for publication on Muslim cosplay. There is very little serious scholarship even written on cosplay in general (and a lot can be said about identity performativity….), much less something specific to a religious tradition.

While GoogleScholar may be lacking on the topic, I see a robust community of pictures and discussions here in the Tumblr community. Okay so the best thing,the best thing about Sirs Patrick & Ian being best friends is that they met because of the X-Men movie.

I saw Sir Patrick speak a year or so ago and someone asked him about their friendship.  He told this story about how I think they’d once or twice worked on the same production but had had very little interaction, and that when he’d been a kid, he’d utterly looked up to Sir Ian, who had had an established theater career at a very young age. 

People assume that they’ve been friends since they were young, which makes sense given the sort of work they’ve done and their career trajectories, but no. Sir Patrick basically had a giant hero-crush-from-a-distance on Sir Ian for most of his life AND THEN on the set of X-Men, their trailers were put next to each other and they were significantly older than anyone else on the set, so they started spending their downtime together. 

And became inseparable.  And this is amazing. 

So everyone who wants a friend like this, you have time. <3
