Capsule Wardrobe Project

These are sketches from a capsule wardrobe project in my Fashion Design Functions course at COLLARTS.

The goal was to design a set of 8 garments, with 15 prototype sketches each. My theme I chose was Post-Collapse Utility Wear. I wasn't too happy with how the final project turned out, but I wanted to put this up as a measure to go back and look at when my skills improve. Also, maybe to inspire an idea somewhere for someone.

"Labubu, Lafufu, baby it's all landfill, Gatekeeping trash, not something I'd subscribe to. No benefit, just submission to an early demise, For garbage, cheap trinkets and rancid vibes.

"Let people enjoy things" is a vacuous play, shrugging responsibility of our planet, it's nature's decay. Destroying the planet for life without thought, Creating a problem for our children's future nought.

Corporations do the worst, is the excuse, the buts, Though mindless consumers contribute a death by 1000 cuts. Nonchalance & apathy are killing our emotions, The sell out of soul for hollow devotion.

It's okay, though, AI will finish the job, The death of our consciousness, the path to cerebral slobs. The dystopia is here, it signals an end, kid-proofed with collectable trinkets and matcha microtrends."

Artist statement: "Year by year, we relinquish our unique identities for manufactured ones that better fit into a capitalist society. Creativity is replaced with per-determined silhouettes and products, free will is dumbed down to accept subconscious bondage to tech companies and mega corporations.

Governments sell us out so that the few in power continue to line their pockets.Meanwhile, our planet has passed the point of no return as far as renewal goes. We shrug off our responsibility because it’s easier to blame something bigger.

We are dying philosophically and ethically."

This was a creative project for the Creative Foundations stream at COLLARTS.

Experimentation in fibers and yarns, felting and weaves As part of an assignment, we made our own weaves and felting. Knitting was also done, but unfortunately I was unable to complete that type of fabrication just yet. I'll get there in time, but it's something I need to develop patience for.

Personal Wardrobe Audit

Within the first trimester of Fashion Sustainability at COLLARTS I was tasked to audit my own wardrobe and analyse the different types of garments, colours, textiles, age and usage.

These are the slides that were shown in a presentation of my findings within my own wardrobe. There was also a report that accompanied this that went into more detail.

Coming out of this project, I was able to reduce my wardrobe size by 20 garments. These were donated to a local Trans and Gender Diverse swap shop, which provides free clothing to TGD individuals, survivors of abuse, refugees and many others who need access to clothing.

Linear vs Circular Supply Chain Posters

Linear Supply Chains in fashion are ruining the planet, especially when we consider fast fashion outlets. Waste, emissions and water pollution are huge factors, among others.

Moving to Circular Supply Chains utilising take back programs, upcycling and recycled garments extend the use and life of garments so they don't end up on clothing piles in marginalised nations.

Consider the harm brands are doing when making your favourite items and consider looking into alternative brands integrating circularity into their supply chains to reduce your impact on the planet!

Sites like Good On You do a great job at investigating the claims brands make on their sustainability practices and highlighting the ones that have work to do on their ethics and sustainable supply chain changes.

Retail Fashion Range Plan

This was a demonstration of my skills learned in Multimedia and Graphic Design and time in the Retail Fashion industry while applying for a design role within a company in Melbourne.

Just to note, this was before commencing the Bachelor of Fashion Sustainability & Business at COLLARTS. So, this was without any training in range plans or technical drawings. This was a work of being in proximity to range plans and product graphics within the company I was working for.
