"Don’t touch me."
"Don't be stubborn. I merely want to see if the wound is as deep as it looks. Or would you prefer dying from infection?"
He rolled his eyes. Out of everything that had happened between them so far, he’d be a fool to just lose things now. Though exhaustion was clouding his judgment, he wouldn’t be so irresponsible. But, if she wanted to hold the directions, so be it. He wouldn’t argue.
"Alright… And… Hm." He paused to think to himself; stealing a car would be ideal, wouldn’t it? And they were in another country, so it might not be too difficult to hot wire it and not get caught. At this point, he didn’t care too much; they’d been through hell and back, and if need be, he could appeal with his actual money back home.
"Do you know how to hotwire a car?" he murmured, glancing over towards her. "Just… out of curiosity."
Both of them had been involved in illegal activities before anyways, and it didn’t really make a difference to her. It might to him, since he’d already served his sentence, but who was she to care about his legality? "I don’t," she responded, but made a mental note to look into it at home. "I’ve never needed to hotwire a car, though it might be helpful. You do, don’t you?" At least she hoped he did. Stealing a car and its keys was a lot harder than just the former. "We can’t ask anyone for help either."
"I do, admittedly," he confessed, giving a dry smirk to her. It was something he'd learned by chance many years ago, but hadn't ever used due to no circumstances arising where he would need to. Running a hand through his hair, the man breathed a deep sigh. "We'll need to first find a car." After that, he could use the unused skill to wire a random car and they could make it to Saburo.
everyone was a stranger, anyway [@aoi]
Hongou took a deep breath and nodded, listening to the other man’s words. The goal was traveling through the forest, to reach the east rather than the north. Aoi’s assumption that everyone was dead was unnerving, but he knew their capabilities more than Hongou, so he had no choice to believe it.
"Alright," he murmured, feeling a dizzy spell hit him all of a sudden. No! It wasn’t the time. He shook his head to clear it and walked forward, entering the forest again and keeping one hand on his gun. His arm throbbed, but he had to ignore it for now. He could examine it later.
They continued through the forest, and Hongou’s hand never left his gun’s handle. “Keep an eye open,” he muttered, glancing around himself.
The loss of his former companions was of no importance to Aoi as he had merely joined them for the momentary safety their camp had provided him in such a desperate situation where staying alone was more dangerous than hanging with a restricted group of people. Despite the weapons they had carried, most had been untrained and probably incapable of making the correct decision to ensure their survival in such a deathly predicament, the amount of zombies lurking inside the forest being much higher than what he, himself, had been prepared to facing, even by imagining the worst case scenario. Their situation wasn’t good and, even though he knew of his ally’s strength, there was nothing providing them any guarantee that they would make it out of there alive.
"Hey, you ok?" Though he couldn’t help but loathe himself for showing concern to Hongou of all people, the older man seemed nothing but his usual self despite him attempting to conceal it, several signs having already alerted Aoi previously. The lack of sleep may have been an explanation though one he doubted for some reason, not believing fatigue to be enough to justify his behaviour.
"Wait. Stop." The white-haired man whispered upon hearing noises in the distance, coming right from their destination, eyelids furrowing as to get a better look on what may be coming their way though he could see nothing yet, the hand carrying his gun extending toward the potential threat, ready to fire at will were they to be attacked. However, nothing came out and while he didn’t lower his guard, he couldn’t help but feel something was… off. "Did I imagine it?"
Great. Now even Aoi was pitying him. Snapping his gaze to the younger man, he huffed out a quick, "I'm fine," and left it at that. Of course he was fine. Of course this wasn't a bite, but a scratch or a cut by something else. It had to be. There was no way a simple bite could bring him down, anyway. No possible way Gentarou Hongou could become something so brainless and beast-like.
Taking one more deep breath, he stopped in his tracks upon hearing Aoi's command. Perking his own ears for noises, he focused his gaze where the other's gun was pointing, aiming his own in that direction.
"Something is off," he whispered in agreement, getting the very same feeling. Before he could blink, however, something grabbed him from behind. Suppressing a shriek of surprise, the older man struggled and pried clawing hands off of him, whipping his body around and blasting the creature in the face.
Without even saying 'Behind you!,' Hongou aimed his gun towards the one approaching Aoi and shot it, panting from the effort it took to pry his own off. It shouldn't have taken this much energy - was he getting weaker?
Before he realized it, he was on his knees, panting from the movement. "J... just need a moment," he whispered, a dreadful feeling settling into his stomach.

Dumbfounded, Hongou nodded and grabbed a nearby sheet of paper and pencil, jotting down the address of the business. He’d have to face his brother soon; the thought made him want to throw up, quite honestly. But he wouldn’t be a coward; he’d have to face the man with no hint of fear, given his current company.
"Alright. Let’s head back to the hotel, grab our things, and make our way to this address. It should be about… hm. From the location, I’d guess a few hours’ walk, or about an hour’s drive."
Akane nodded, snatched the paper away from Hongou and folded it neatly. She couldn’t allow him to lose it, let alone while they were on their way to his brother. The only one she could trust was herself, and thus she’d be the one to carry it. "Do you think we can get a vehicle of some kind from somewhere?" It wasn’t very likely, but maybe, just maybe. She didn’t even mind stealing one. Granted, stealing wasn’t Akane’s regular MO, but this was an exceptional case.
"It’s better than walking."
He rolled his eyes. Out of everything that had happened between them so far, he'd be a fool to just lose things now. Though exhaustion was clouding his judgment, he wouldn't be so irresponsible. But, if she wanted to hold the directions, so be it. He wouldn't argue.

"Do you know how to hotwire a car?" he murmured, glancing over towards her. "Just... out of curiosity."
"Damn," he hissed under his breath, muttering an insult to Kenji for being so obscure. It was entirely possible whatever field he worked in was not online-based, or was in another country, or… something. Whatever the reason, Kenji couldn’t be found. No matter. Thankfully, Hongou had another brother to search.
Taking a deep breath, he typed ‘Saburo Hongou’. A few results came up - all having the same name, and the same company: Primary Accounting, Incorporated. Located in…
"Nevada…" Hongou gasped, his mouth gaping open. What were the odds?
Akane stared at the screen a while longer in bewilderment of their sheer luck. She checked the words once, twice, three times — but the location remained the same. Somehow, thanks to some greater force, the two of them could reach someone that may or may not be able to help them. What a pity she wasn’t religious. "Make a note of the address. We should hurry," Akane mumbled behind him, an odd note of calmness to her voice. She was excited about this, but her senses told her to remain on guard. "The faster we are, the better."

[ Perhaps he always liked to be the thorn in Akane Kurashiki’s life. The untied, loose end that she always would have to deal with. Because Gentarou Hongou hadn’t lost the war. A few battles, a few scuffles, yes. But the war was not over so long as he was alive. ]
"By being in this city, by being within my presence, you are prying into my affairs. Tell me, are you here to join the scientists like the devious snake you are, or has the kidnapper become the kidnapped?”
The thorn in her life was indeed an interesting metaphor, but just a construct of his wishful thinking. All he was was a little stick she’d kicked out of the way during a game that had been a necessity anyways, and she’d punished him on the side. The imporant aspect was following the predicted course of events, not exacting revenge on a man like him — It was but the positive side effect. "Do you feel threatened by my presence? I’ll take that as a compliment."
"Need I remined you that my business isn’t yours?"
[ He chuckled, despite himself. Her words were so amusing, really. If he'd have heard her description of him, he'd have to disagree. He was far more powerful than a mere stick. Hell, even here, there was Cradle. Hm. Perhaps he should mention that. ]
"Threatened? When I have my company here, working towards achieving the same level of greatness it did at home?"
EXCUSE ALICE
"OLD GOAT"???
Hongou rolled his eyes. “You insinuated I couldn’t use that as an excuse. Exhaustion, that is. I’m not letting you do the same.” It was only fair, after all, to give her the same ‘courtesy’. With a sneer, he turned back to her, refusing to be affected by her smart comment and replying, “Not as long as you’d think.”
He remembered the torture room, where he’d led the plan to distract Free the Soul. Where Akane had pretended to be his employee to go along with him.
They crossed into the library, where Hongou found a row of computers instantly. Sitting down in front of one, he pulled up Google and searched ‘Kenji Hongou’ first and foremost, as he was the second youngest.
Nothing of relevance came up.
"It wasn’t an excuse," she responded in slight amusement, imitating him by rolling her eyes as well. She shook her head a little and chuckled into her beard, but then decided to resume their truce. What she was doing wasn’t necessarily offending him, but Gentarou Hongou was such a diva he couln’t take a little teasing. "Must have been a while regardless." Akane followed him up to one of the computers and remained standing, leaning over to peek over his shoulder. Kenji Hongou, huh? That must have been one of his two hopefully safe and sane brothers. However, they didn’t find anything useful anyways, which caused her to sigh.
"One down."
"Damn," he hissed under his breath, muttering an insult to Kenji for being so obscure.
