Actually I don't think it's being a "grammar snob" to ask people to learn proper language for referring to Indigenous peoples.
Personal example:
My people spent hundreds of years being wrongly called "micmac". There are people who have reclaimed this bastardized name and that's their right, but most folks I know detest it, and it's certainly disrespectful for settlers to keep using it. Call us what we want to be called, it's really not that complicated! if you're gonna talk about us, do it right.
What is correct -
Mi'kmaq = plural. "The Mi'kmaq are from Mi'kma'ki."
Mi'kmaw = singular/adjective. "My friend is a Mi'kmaw person."
if it's alright i'd like to add some pronunciation guidance:
I highly recommend watching the video as it's done by a Mi'kmaw person, which I am very much not. If you're hard of hearing, however, or if you're not a video/audio kind of learner, this is the pronunciation according to muiniskw.org:
'meeg-mah'
The 'ah' being pronounced with that guttural sound from the back of your throat. Kind of like if you're gargling, or as the guy in the video puts it, like clearing your throat.
You deserve love now. Not once you lose weight. Not once you accomplish that thing. Not once you move. Not once you get on medication. Not once you start therapy. Not once you get that job. Not once you're more like them. Now. You don't have to earn the right to be loved. You deserve it right now, and always have.
Do you have any tips for getting into robot-cosplay? I want to do it a lot once I get the resources. Like where do you find things to buy for it (like gloves and leggings specifically) and how do you keep cool when wearing a headpiece/how long you should. Thabk you!

Hey there! So one of the really fun parts about this is how accessible it actually is! My main setup for everything contains a total of 4-6 pieces, but it varies depending on the outfit! That's just mine, you don't need all of this to get started (I didn't), but maybe it can help you get a better idea of what you want. The first 2 most important bits are the mask and the hood! I'll put everything I've done under the cut, and hopefully it'll help you
The mask can be found at a variety of online storefronts in all kinds of designs and with plenty of additional pieces you can cater to your personal interests. I initially found mine on Etsy, but they are being sold on Amazon, eBay, and shops like Temu as well. Going to any of these websites and searching for something like "robot mask," "cyber mask," "techwear mask," or anything similar should get you a lot of results.
Despite how it might look, the mask doesn't fully enclose your head, it just wraps around the sides a little, and is secured with elastic straps. To give a better effect, most of the masks you'll find online come with a black hood with the face cut out. You can see some of it here.
In this picture, I'm also using a black gaiter mask around my neck, as it comes down further than the included hood and lets me cover up more for photos. It's not necessary, but I prefer to use it to avoid anything being exposed at the neckline!
You can also see in this picture that there are plenty of gaps around the visor to allow air flow. I have personally never felt the need to install any other cooling devices, though you may need to learn how to better control your breathing, or apply something to the inside of the visor to prevent fogging. But other than that, it doesn't get that uncomfortable! You may need to adjust the elastic straps, but they can be made tighter or looser, so you shouldn't have too much trouble. One of the most difficult parts of wearing it for extended periods of time is that the way it rests on your nose might get painful. However, I've worn mine for 5+ hours with very little trouble.
The next thing you asked about was gloves. I actually made mine!
I took a normal pair of stage gloves that you can find on Amazon or in costume shops for real cheap, then I got a sheet of 2mm craft foam from the art store, measured my hand onto a piece of paper and traced out the plates, making sure they were a little longer on the sides. I also used a heat gun to shape them and the back hand plate, gave them a layer of modge podge for effect, and glued them to the gloves. There are other gloves you can find online, I know a lot of people like to use tactical gloves, but make it your own! There are other designs you can do for your hands with foam, as well, I actually made a different pair last year, but didn't quite get them right so I will need to go back at it, they are much more complex, but still use all the same materials.
For my own outfits, I have also found that having a black undershirt can help. I got a cheap exercise shirt on Amazon, and attached some Velcro to the inside of the wrist, as well as to the outside of the gloves. That way, I can attach the wrists together and give it a more seamless look, but this is only necessary if my arms will be showing.
(Again, this is just how I do mine!)
The last thing you mentioned were leggings. I'm sorry to report that the leggings I have are no longer available on Amazon, but if you try and search up robot print leggings, you may find what you're looking for. I also know a friend of mine got a custom printed body suit, but I'm sadly not sure where. To create different effects, I wear either black or white stockings over the leggings to create the colour I want.
Beyond these pieces, you can really make whatever you like! I will leave the shirt and leggings off completely if those parts of me aren't exposed, so they're only necessary if I want them. Everything else is entirely up to you on what you want to make. If you want inspiration, I might suggest looking up cyber cosplay on Pinterest, or just go to your online storefront of choice and look up "techwear," there are numerous companies that make cool outfits, but the main ones you'll see are Machine 56 and Fabric of the Universe, which are kind of opposite ends of the budget spectrum (M56 is beautiful but a jacket will cost you about $350USD while FotU is cheaper material and quality, but still looks nice in photos).
Also remember that cosplay is about evolving! I started out with just the mask, then I made the gloves a year or so later, and the rest got added as time went on. So don't worry about having your whole setup on day 1, you'll find what you want as you go.
Sorry for the long explanation, but hopefully this gets you started on what you want to do! Sorry there aren't many links, it's just depending on where you want to start, but all the advice is good!
B-17 bomber is riddled with German anti-aircraft fire but miraculously survives. Later they discover the explosive shells were all inert; sabotaged by Nazi slaves working in armament factories.
Inside one empty shell is a written note: it's all we can do for you now.
The most important part of all this is that these small acts of bravery and noncompliance cannot be known as long as the enemy still stands, and might never be known. Just because it doesn’t seem like anyone is doing anything doesn’t mean it’s true. The best malicious compliance or subtle sabotage is the one that’s never detected, but makes ravages nonetheless.
"thought crimes aren't real, it's your actions that matter" and "your mindset informs how you treat others, so you should try not to have a shitty one" are another pair of things that are both true btw
"Just because I'm right, doesn't mean I'm being helpful" is a vastly underrated thought process that I strongly encourage others to get comfortable with
one of the most challenging skills i've had to learn as an adult is the art of figuring out whether i'm proportionally annoyed with someone or just tired and overstimulated and looking for reasons to be pissed off
congratulations to the only post i've ever had breach 100k notes without any real discourse or fighting, just a lot of people wearily going, oh, god, same
I mean not to be pedantic but the vast majority of us chose to be kind and happy and live safe and simple lives with good food and beautiful art. The small handful willing to crush anyone in their way to pursue and retain power are Greed Georg adn should not have been counted
Fam, some jobs are like being a firefighter. 90% of the time you're not doing anything that important, but by golly, when they need you, they need you.
Some jobs, you can fuck around for six hours a day, but you know what you're doing so well that the work you do in two hours would take somebody else ten.
Some jobs, you spend those two hours preventing other people from making mistakes that would take 100 hours to fix if you weren't there to steer them right.
So don't buy into the idea that if you're not working 480 minutes a day, you're not doing enough to get paid a day's wages. That's the capitalism talking.
You're a better employee when you keep your morale up, and sometimes you do that by reading fanfiction on the clock in between putting out your little fires.
there's an actual term for this, it's called "waiting for assignment" and the day I learned it cleared up a lot of stupid guilt I was still carrying around for reading fanfiction on the clock despite being the person no one could live without.
essentially, at some jobs you are "engaged to wait," meaning something may not be happening right now but you are being paid to be around when it does. it's a real federally recognized concept and you are morally, legally, and within the bounds of business norms allowed to kill the protestant guilt tripper in your mind telling you that every minute not spent working is stealing from the company or being lazy. it's not. you're extremely valuable and your time being paid to sit there is worth every cent you're being paid.
also, I learned all of this from Ask a Manager, here's a piece where she talks about it, and if you're not reading AAM you should be, especially if you're job hunting or want to be soon.
Sometimes you send something you found online to a friend because you want to brighten their day, and sometimes you send something you found online to a friend with the precise attitude and bearing of a cat very carefully lining up their paw with the back of another cat's head.
