My name is Maxwell Gotch. Seventh son of the Gotch family, student at Revington, and athlete.

I suppose I can spare a moment away from the… boundless whimsy of the other adventurers.

What was it like killing your dad

Honestly, I've never felt better after a fight. I feel so ashamed that I got carried away with the other fights- he would've been dealt with much quicker if not for Hatwell and the Corrodi.

He deserves what he got. I am happy to have been the one to give it to him. My father was a selfish, power-hungry rich idiot, and he murdered one of the only family members I had that actually loved me. I feel no remorse for his fate. It was justice for Grandfather's.

(OKAY SO! this is not a comprehensive list this is just off the top of my head!) - asexual maxwell (i think he acknowledges that his profession has a level of intimacy but considering he sees kissing his hand as making out, i think he wouldn't be into Intimacy of that kind) - torsewell as a qpr if nothing else (because i think their bond is crazy strong but i dont think torse would call it romantic i think theyd just be content to live together and support each other as long as possible) (as much as i love them romantically as well i think in canon if they dipped in any direction itd be platonic soulmates) - maxwell majored in business and hated it so bad he kept going to school to try and find something better to major in (his dad is rich and has 7 sons i don't think he'd care enough to keep track unless it was ruining his reputation) (also explains him being 29 and still in college) - maxwell and olethra bestfriendism (they don't express it normally because neither of them are Normal. but they are best friends. warriors bond (fandom kids) affects no others like it does them) - maxwell looks up to van (not in an aunt way in a mentor way. shes strong and shes intimidating and she has tentacles for arms- and she can get people to listen up in 5 seconds flat. shes incredibly cool and if she knew just how much maxwell looked up to her, he'd instantly throw himself off the ship) - maxwell thinks the latter half of montys books fell off because they were straying further from reality into more fictional tellings of the crew (since the books are primarily meant for children- this also might be because of nostalgia not hitting as hard as more books came out, and the decrease in quality actually just coming from growing out of the target audience)

and you made him laugh for the first time. you're sweet

...He was the first one to call me fun. In a crew of the- objectively- most fun people in any dimension, he called me most fun.

I don't believe him. But it was nice to hear.

As was his laughter. I am not ashamed to admit it- there is nothing wrong with admitting that.

It was worth it to see his pure joy when the beacons were lit, at last. So many of the people he'd thought lost- maybe even family. I owe him that much. For being so kind. For commiserating with me.

Torse is my friend. A truer one than any person or automata I've ever known.

It is... nice, to have him here. One way or another, things end here.

I'm considering persuing a higher education. What would you and your brother recommended? (In addition to your esteemed alma mater of course)

Nowhere’s as good as Biffmore, so I never planned to go anywhere else. The standing programs elsewhere don’t hold a candle! I’ve seen the facilities at Revington, and if you’re a rowdy it really is the best location. I’ve dabbled in a few fighting pits when I’ve visited Maxwell and my my.

Father said business was worthwhile, but he's terrible. Business is partly for people who wish nothing more than to become power-hungry scamps, and partly for the esteemed cutthroat. It is a frightening field.

Revington does not necessarily deal in primarily fighting, but it has a good system in place to teach gentleman fisting, as well as self defense. My actual major is not "being a rowdy", as much as my father loves to think so- I am simply a gentleman pugilist in my off-time. Our programs in most majors are esteemed.

When pursuing higher education, remember you can try new things. Some people find one thing and stick to it- but the point of higher education is that it furthers your understanding and knowledge of subjects you wish to pursue further. Wherever you end up- remember to try new things.

It was frightening, sure, but no one was hurt. No one but him.

What do you think happened in the future that caused your future self to give you pants

...A gentleman spares himself from loss of dignity? I don't know. The befrumplement of time makes such odd sights seem so normal, but looking back- the moment was freakish.

I do not know to which robot you refer. We have met now several automata companions on our adventures. Torse with us longest, sure- but still. The matter in which you ask leaves room for questions.

How did it feel when you touched foreheads with Torse? I know you're not normally the kind of person to be so outwardly emotional, but that's kind of a big deal, isn't it? I can't imagine you doing such an openly emotionally intimate gesture with anyone else

…The Gotch household was not a touchy family. It is intriguing to associate with a group of people who embrace and touch so easily.

It is nice to be understood. Even nicer to be understood at one’s own pace.

You’re right, it was an emotional shortcoming, from the shock of his return and my gratitude that he was returned in full mental status- if a bit guilty.

He seemed happy to see me too, though.

What is your relationship with the automaton known as Torse?

As the Gathies say, it is for "no reason."

Torse is a gentleman, and my good friend. He understands my plights, and we bond over the shared burdens of legacy hanging over our heads. He is a serious man, and appreciates my learned skills. He is a strong person to have in one's corner.

I am grateful to have him returned to life.

When I fight, there are reprieves. There are rules, procedures- and most of all: No one is meant to die.

Zood and seen both throw that out the window. Highly ungentlemanly. Not a good fight. Not a true and honest Revington fight.

What day would you say was worse? Being underwater at Katur or whatever the fuck happened in Zern

Every fight is bad. They're all bad.

Cultists with stunning rays and giant crabs and giant grappling tentacles or swathes of robot armies in the hottest room in this dimension or the next? Both are bad!

Especially since I spent almost all of one fight fighting a crab, and got my nose broken from the inside in the other one when I was just trying to help! Preposterous.

I can only hope we find reprieve from this horrid hellscape soon. Everyone needs a break, and we seem to float from one fight to the next these days.

After managing to remove the iron heart from Torse once more, Maxwell is forced to reflect on his connection with the metal man as he undergoes repairs, contemplating if it was worth the risk to bring him back. Marya has some wise words of wisdom for him, knowing all too well this feeling of loss.

Just a little two-shot Copium in preparation for today’s Cloudward Ho episode, I wrote it a couple days ago but have been feeling weirdly proud of it. Might turn it into a cute series of Maxwell being useless at courting to ignore whatever horrors await.
