This is a reminder that the observance of Shabbat is a process, not a one-time test. Building Shabbat into the rhythm of your life takes time. Even if you missed your chosen observances today, Shabbat is not wasted. Take a little time out today to just sit and think about Shabbat, about your newfound Jewishness, about the very idea of sacred time. Think about how wonderful it is that you and every other Jewish person in the world share this period of time, regardless of movement or level of observance, that the entirety of the Jewish world is reunified on this day. And if you missed your chosen observances, forgive yourself and move on– Shabbat will come again next week!
