Erik Brandt, 2018. Released October 2, 2018, thirty-five days ahead of election day, I am grateful for the invitation to contribute this formal reflection to Future Now USA, a NYC based group rallying voter participation in advance of the vitally important 2018 midterm elections. Please consider contributing to their campaign here.
Erik Brandt, 2018. Augmented GIF of four prints (B1, 707mmx1000mm) for the SuperSurfaces exhibition in Seoul, Korea.
Erik Brandt, 2017. TOLERANZ/TOLERANCE. I tried to work with both standard definitions of the term in German and in English, to find a way to resolve this typographically–in the end I focused more on the secondary definition as a way to highlight traditional problems with this issue to develop these various apparitions...('das Maß, in dem etwas von einem Standardwert abweicht’ oder auch, 'an allowable amount of variation of a specified quantity, especially in the dimensions of a machine or part').
Erik Brandt, 2017. Grateful to the amazing Alexander Vasin for his kind invitation to contribute this piece for Typomania Festival 2018. Contributors were asked to freely interpret the East-West theme, and mine references older work and certain detailien close to my heart. (700mm x 1000mm, screenprinted in silver, black.)
Erik Brandt, 2017. Honored to be participating in Orgasm Addict Reframed during Design Manchester to help celebrate the 40th anniversary of Malcolm Garrett's classic design for this legendary single. It's impossible to make something better than the original, but I'm chuffed, chuffed I say, with being asked to play along nonetheless. Contributions to the exhibition were displayed during DM17. Many thanks to the curators DR.ME, Ryan Doyle and Mark Edwards, for their kind invitation.
Erik Brandt, 2017. Three flags for the 5th edition of Typojanchi, the international typography biennial in Seoul, Korea. Many thanks to the project curator, Daeki Shim, and fellow contributors.
Erik Brandt, 2017. Delighted and humbled to be included in the 5th edition of Typojanchi, the international typography biennial in Seoul, Korea. Contributors were asked to create three flags around the themes of the biennial, body, written language, and typography. For my flags, I wanted to explore the most simple expressions of body, how line and light can give form. More images here. Massive thanks to the project curator, Daeki Shim, and fellow contributors. Events run through Oct. 29, 2017.
Erik Brandt, 2017. POST AUS HEIDELBERG! A thousand thanks to Götz Gramlich for sending a few of these screenprinted A1 posters for Mut zur Wut 2017. Chuffed, chuffed I say, to see these five-color prints produced by Serigrafie Lauer.
Ja, DOING DOING DOING. A flower from Powderhorn for Paris. Two weeks from today I will be joining Ahn Sang-soo, Sascha Lobe, and Ryosuke Uehara onstage at ENSAD in Paris as part of Day 2 of AGI Open 2017. I will give a brief talk about my work, teaching, and then join a round table discussion on education with my Alliance Graphique Internationale colleagues. I especially hope to meet many of the European Ficciones Typografika contributors to thank them in person for sharing so much with me. Let us have Paris! We'll always have Paris! Erik Brandt, 2017. I am endlessly grateful to Leonie Seitz and the team of Boxhorn Magazin for including a stuttering German-English interview with me in their 33rd edition. Published via the Fachbereich Gestaltung, FH Aachen, Germany. The publication is stunning, available here: http://boxhorn-magazin.de
