Africa is trending #1
Almost every corner of occidental's music has been yet reviewed, reissued and reported. Now it's time to dig deep in exotic countries. Awesome Tapes From Africa's early success was just an appetizer for what was coming next. Caribou and Four Tet have been exploting folk music from remote countries for a good 4 years now.
The latest hit in this "all things african" fever is William Onyeabor. The interest on Onyeabor has been triggered by David Byrne's Luaka Bop and their release of "Who Is William Onyeabor", a compilation full of funky and dischoish songs, rich on sinthesizer solos and that sort of naivety found on Omar Souleyman's party songs.
Moog (it seems that synthesizer manufacturers could establish themselves as the new patrons of electronic music) has predicted Onyeabor success and is working on a remix compilation. The first remix that surfaced from this compilation is a african Disco bomb by french wonderman Joakim.
If you're hungry of more free Onyeabor goodies, Auntie Flo -a personal hero- made an edit of that same "Good Name" a couple of weeks ago.
More african stuff soon :)
THE LORD just shared a brand new mix full of soft acid moments and analog bliss. Described as "A free run with some new records and other bits", this hour and a half mix is one of those rare examples where a producer is able to translate his personal style to a DJ mix.
This guy is on fire.
For those who haven't noticed it yet, we're throwing our 5th party at Prince Charles. The bill includes all usual suspects (JMII, Moon&Mann, Baughman), Lee Douglas and the first ever Berlin appearance of rising star Lord Of The Isles.
The music of this scottish gentleman, is half magic and synth psychedelia, and half dancefloor effectivity. We're really excited to hear his live set! In the meantime, let's enjoy this magnetic tune that a well known sports brand made available as a Free Download a couple of weeks ago.

On a market flooded with tons of unsignificant and flat-sounding music, being a complete freak is a conscious decision most producers are taking lately. This alarmingly growing hord of musicians looking for the next weird twist on the latests musical sound of the week, causes that nowadays is almost imposible to separete the genuine freaks (say Legowelt or DJ Haus) from the fake ones (Anthony Naples?).
Sounding weird is the new shit and -on a scene full of upstarters and pricks as the electronic music scene is- some producers are making their profit.
Dr Zygote could be one of those true sound explorers whose uncommon approach to music making (no samples, use of Dub studio trickery) and wide range of influences (Gialo + Hip-Hop + Library Music + Dub) have just cristalized on an own and recognizable sound.
Check Dr Zigote's Grupo Zigote on Black Acre for more weird sounding dopeness.
Our friends at Hivern Discs have released a new record made by our Aster dears. The team formed by Pettre and Geradehaus' resident JMII has crafted "Cielo", a very special track that re-imagines old school rave-indebted hooks at a balearic tempo.
The package comes with two atomic BIcep remixes finely tuned to kill any dancefloor.
Grab yourself one of those blue beauties before they're gone!
Echovolt Records is not only a great source for new and exciting talents. Since a few weeks ago, they're are also on the reissue bussiness, and their first installment is an old forgotten gem produced by increasingly acclaimed Nathaniel X and Mr. Vil under their moniquer VIL-N-X.
American house at its best.
Here's a remix made by JMII to a Hirotaka Miyamoto track included on his Circles album from last year. JMII will be playing live next Saturday (September 7th) at Loftus Hall on a brilliantly curated Naive Melodies night featuring Pional, The Drifter, Baughman and Sara MIller.
We hope to see you all on the dancefloor sweating and twerking (like you already know who).

This increasingly popular trend of releasing mixes without a tracklist seems a little bit stupid somehow. If you're not a really well stablished artist, is highly likely that absolutely NO ONE listens to your shitty podcast unless you attach a tracklist to it and let your potential audience know how fucking great your selections are.
Take this balearic-ambient mix as an example. If we just recommend you to listen to the latest offering from the people behind Post Club -one of the few crews working on bringing exciting talents to Madrid-, I'm sure you'll better look for another Miley Cyrus tumblr to spend your time with. BUT, if you consider to have a little bit of musical culture and happen to read the tracklist of this Postcast #010 mix, you should at least feel the urge to download it and hear how many legends -old and new- from the genre can someone mix on less than an hour.
1 - Johan Agebjörn - A New Day Arrives (Lotuspike) 2 - The KLF - Madrugada Eterna (KLF Communications) 3 - Global Communication - 14:31 (Dedicated) 4 - Grimes - Heartbeats (Laurel Halo Remix) (Not On Label) 5 - Oneohtrix Point Never – Submersible (Software Records) 6 - Brian Eno - First Light (Editions EG) 7 - Silence - Picnic (Fax +49-69/450464) 8 - Mountains - Melodica (Thrill Jockey) 9 - Cluster & Eno - Für Luise (Sky Records) 10 - Roll The Dice – After (Digitalis) 11 - Brain Machine - Crystal Clouds (Forthcoming Titan’s Halo)
One of the main attractions of Ron Morelli's L.I.E.S. is that unique and unpredictable approach to music they have. This Samantha Vacation thing they are releasing, is just one of the weirdest and coolest dance-not-dance music you'll hear this year. Believe the hype.
If you live in Berlin is highly likely that you already know Moon&Mann. Within a growing career and a schedule permanently full of all sort of gigs, this Iberian combo has been heating Sin City's nights since they decided to put together one of those record collections that would make Harvey Pekar salivate.
The fifth installment of their own podcast series -unfortunately called "Rayas En Discos"- one of the duo's capital strengths, an assorted selection of sensual music that works away from genres and eras. Funk, Disco, Pop, House...everything goes if you know how to mix it the right way.
Sensual healing.
Fifth Wall is one of those labels that has to be on everybody's radar sooner than latter. This Matrixxman banger is their easiest release so far and despite pointing to that annoying Kerri Chandler and Co revival, still manages to keep that harsh and metallic feeling that made their first records so special. Looking forward to the next one
Gerry Read is a little crazy bastard. He always manages to sound like he was really mad with everything and everyone, He hates your ears and your whole life.
We love him. But I'm sure he hates us too.
<3 Gerry
Admiting that you're still following what Kompakt does, is in some circles as confessing to your hipster friend that you still wear pirate pants on sundays. Although they are far from being that cool label that conquered our hearts with "Heroin" and a whole brand of indie powered techno anthems, the crew from Kölln is still capable of releasing some interesting material.
The latest album from Coma may not be the best example for my point, cause it's this kind of irregular album where you find yourself skipping thru tracks. One of the poppier and most rewarding moments of this album was "My Orbit", a catchy track that screamed for a dancey edit. An unknown producer called Rutabaga felt somehow the same about this track and has made the dirty job of throwing "My Orbit" into the club with a subtle rework.
There's an alarming lack of personality when it comes to choose a name for your latest promotional DJ mix. In the top list of the most predictable names, months and seasons are the indisputable winners. I'll puke If I see another "Autumn" or "August 2012" mix hanging on Souncloud.
Shelby Grey is a guy from Barcelona (a place, unlike Berlin, with an actual summer) who seems to not give a shit about topics. His "Summer Is Forever Mix" (adding two words to the "Summer" thing shows this guy's some steps ahead of the crowd) sounds humid and exotic. So if you don't have a proper summer, you better imagine it. Music like this should help.
Despite the substancial success achieved by his own productions, catching Ital on remix duties is still a very rare affair. It's true, his tracks aren't the most catchy thing ever, but come on, if Actress can do whatever he wants with any sound material, I'm sure Ital's extended weird-house experiments are capable of grabbing the attention of an important amount of indie listeners.
This Austra remix he just made would be a hit on a better world. Risk and hedonism never worked better together.
Our beloved Bobby Browser and Magic Touch are touring Australia alongside happy-house maestro Octo Octa. They recorded a great mixtape to soundtrack that trip that comes full of music we love. Kresy, Hunee, Orgue Electronique and a huge Jovonn -our next guest at Geradehaus [4]- feature on it. Don't miss the liner notes by Mr Browser on each of the tracks!
