Well when the NHL started they also had to work other jobs/didn’t get paid much!
Well this mens minor hockey league gets paid like less or the same!
Uh actually, everyone had to go through labor battles to get there, so like if you wait long enough.
A.) Anyone who is doing full time work should be paid at absolute minimum, a livable wage for the area they live in. If your minor men’s hockey league is being taken advantage of you should start to advocate for them to be paid more. Unless you don’t actually care and this is just a convient reason for you to check out of the conversation.
B.) You might have started to pay attention to women’s hockey five minutes ago, but women’s hockey has existed since before they were officially allowed to play. Which yes, allowed to play. White men have never had to fight for their right to play for fun, much less in a professional capacity. Marginalized men are still fighting tooth and nail for their place in hockey, and deserve the recognition and opportunity that has been denied them. And this implication that women have to wait and earn their access to professional space and a living wage is asinine. No one should have had to fight in the first place, but they have fought more to end up with less already.
C.) I make $16 an hour 40 hours a week in the country side in the Midwest. Not a major city. I’m extremely lucky I have a good relationship with my family and that they are still willing to support me by paying for food and letting me live rent free all year round. And even in this situation I could not afford to move out and there are still other bills to pay. Not to mention student loan debt. Which I imagine not a small number of professional players have. I can’t imagine all of them got full rides at college for hockey. This is not enough money for the players to pay bills and invest in their future even if food and shelter is immedialty taken care of.

“I have always wanted to change the world through sports. Playing hockey empowered me and gave me an amazing platform to advocate for the issues that matter the most to me, especially gender equality and LGBTQ+ inclusion… Trans athletes deserve those same rights and equal opportunities in sports. I now mentor young athletes, inspiring them to find their voices through hockey. Every child, regardless of gender identity, should have the chance to access the lifelong skills that sports teach like confidence, perseverance and leadership.”
Meghan Duggan – Three-time Olympic medalist and IIHF Women’s World Champion, and now PWHL Hamilton GM.
We love to see it. 👏👏👏 Too many of the women who have reached elite levels in hockey are very quiet on this topic. Nice to see someone incoming who has spoken up.
My love of sports continues to grow (child Sammi would be shocked) and I think I want to start watching basketball (Knicks and Liberty, obviously)
One thing that'll make it very different than starting to watch the yankees or even the ny rangers, is the last time the knicks won a championship my dad was 2 years old. He can't really tell me anything about the knicks winning the way he can tell me about the yankees dynasty or the rangers winning in '94. And that sucks, not because I need to root for a team with a huge history of success, but because my dad telling me about sports he watched when he was young has been such a good bonding experience for us. I've gotten to know my dad better because he talks to me about jeter and mo. Talking about the miracle on ice game was amazing too. My dad has had a lot of health problems recently, and thankfully he's doing a lot better now, but I really treasure the time I've gotten to spend with him watching and talking about sports. I know both myself and him better for it.
Anyway this is just a rambling appreciation post about my dad inspired by the knicks but not about them at all. Bur go new york go!
one must remember the new york sirens happy
he’s so stupid 🙏
she is soooo cool to me
