I was thinking about Treebark today and just realised it’s almost the anniversary of the altar speech so the body remembers even if your brain doesn’t ^_^
Jono: For me it's-it's been such, like, an honor to meet you. Martyn: Likewise, yeah. Jono: Because like. I love when--I've been calling him Timmy and Erik (?) all weekend--but I love when you and Ren work together. I think-- Martyn: Oh, yeah. Jono: --you guys have such an amazing synergy, and it's like some of my favorite Minecraft content of all time (Martyn snickers) is you and Ren roleplaying and being-- Martyn: I think it's because neither of us take ourselves too seriously (Jono laughs) and we're just like, "let's just be silly and dramatic and goofy." Like, we'll break the fourth wall every five seconds but we'll play a character like its--you know what I mean, like. And that was-when we met in Third Life, the very first series, we'd never worked together before. That was our first immediate collaboration. I'd only met him, by chance, at like, Grian's wedding, I think, maybe a year? Two years? Before that, something? Um. So we met at that wedding--I don't even think even at that time I don't think I even knew he did Youtube and stuff-- Jono: That's nuts. Martyn: He was just like, he was just this cool dude I met at the wedding, and like, we were just chatting away sort of thing. Um...so yeah, even just like, offline, and like, sat outside of work, we just sort of clicked straight away, which was sick. Jono: Yeah. Martyn: Um, but I mean who doesn't get on with him, like, dude's-- Jono: No he's a lovely guy, man-- Martyn: Dude's a viber-- Jono: He's such a viber-- Martyn: --like he's just. He loves it.
Ren: Bro. Martyn: Right? Ren: It was a pleasure to go into the deep dark pit-- Martyn: Dude-- Ren: --of whatever that was with you dude. Martyn: Hey-- Ren: That was wild. Martyn: --honestly, that's-I'm gonna be hearing your voice in my dreams tonight, honest to god.
Martyn: Oop! Do I need to put my blindfold on now? Where's my blindfold? Yeah, sorry—
Ren: Um, by the way chat, I made this blindfold. Okay? I tried to channel—
Martyn: I don't know if it's gonna work, I'm just gonna put it on straight away.
Ren: I tried to channel what I think was best for Martyn.
Martyn: I'm gonna listen to what they're saying.

Sampo seems like the type to glance your way for but a moment when you're not looking before pulling you against him by your waist. You don't even have time to yelp before he's spewing bullshit about bravado, about how together you can achieve the impossible — fingers tap tap tapping in some semblance of rhythm atop your hip — lying about everything but the fact he intends to keep you oh so close.
the nether is terrifying because it is hell and monsters live there who want to hurt you. however, it gets even more terrifying when you think about Intentional Game Design. a world where you'll die if you try to sleep. you could get stuck there, growing wearier and wearier, until your eyes start to blur with the waves of heat rising from the earth. when you cave in and lay your head to rest the ground will explode. the souls trapped in the dirt will scream with you. you will never be heard. this world will rip you apart for the crime of being human. you cannot win. you cannot rest now. there are always monsters nearby.
more stories where falling in love is a horrifying fate worse than death rather than a source of comfort and hope. more stories where love is understood as a terminal affliction.
more stories where someone falls in love and understands that this means they will be changed and made more vulnerable by it, compelled to do irrational things in the name of it, and be willing to die for it, and starts lashing out and stress vomiting about it

Genre of character: submissive like a guard dog is submissive
I love the Martren thing because it was player agency in the face of gimmicks. Ren went through the superpowers session, lost Martyn, turned into him at the last second, then lost his superpowers. But lore-wise, he made it have an impact. Ren actually did something. The superpowers gimmick made him do something that allowed it to stretch beyond its intended life span (ie. its own session). Of course Ren will blatantly lore his way into that making sense. If he wants Martyn in the finale, he’ll just rewrite the story because he has player agency.
Ren has the improv ability to talk like Martren!Martyn half of the time and goes around making a deal out of it… then snails come back and he’s instantly distracted and reverts to normal Ren voice.
Ren reacted to the gimmick by owning it and roleplaying having control over it, like it’s an actual superpower that his character gained outside of fun buttons that the CC pressed. It was definitely a decision he made that fits in with his character arc and relationship arc with Martyn. The gimmicks were supposed to be temporary, but because he’s a storyteller, he tells the story of them having an effect on him. He’s telling us a story.
