y’all ever think about how, in the exile arc, c!dream would hit c!tommy sometimes whenever he didn’t throw his armor in the hole immediately? yeah. ‘cause i’m thinking about that.
because i’m thinking about the exile arc right now, i’m just gonna list things that people don’t often talk about that happened during the exile arc/shit that i’m thinking about currently.
• the fact that c!tommy canonically hallucinated tubbo twice. no, tubbo wasn’t actually there, he confirmed it himself when he said he hadn’t visited logstedshire before, basically when tommy had seen him, both times.
• the fact that, once again, dream would hit him when he wouldn’t give up his things/wouldn’t put his armor in the pit on command. sometimes he’d hit him with his axe —unless my memory is wonky— and sometimes he wouldn’t.
• the fact that, when talking to MD, tommy referred to dream as “basically my owner”.
• the fact that dream ended up blowing up logstedshire when he’d found out tommy had done something as simple as hide a couple chests from him, and also ended up killing mushroom henry, if my memory is correct.
• the fact that tommy had told quackity that he’d “cried almost every night (?)” during exile.
• the fact that tommy woke up every stream drowning, which still hasn’t been explained, but it’s been acknowledged by tommy himself when he told techno he has “a problem with waking up underwater/drowning (?)”
• the fact that tommy barely ate during exile/barely got to eat. we didn’t ever see him eat during those streams, iirc.
• the fact that two of tommy’s triggers are: holes in the ground and lava. the lava is most likely from,,,,, glances at the scene we all know about. yeah </3
• the fact that, after tommy’s party when he was going to go through the portal to l’manberg, dream said: “they wouldn’t want you anyways” aka, the people in l’manberg. manipulative fucker.
• and finally, the fact that whenever tommy would speak about dream during his time with techno he’d always go “he’s my friend”, and then he’d have to remind himself with “no, he was only there to watch me”. here’s a literal quote that he said at some point; “whenever i think about dream, my head gets all spinny (?)”
I think about all of these points A LOT.
But yeah. We especially don’t talk about the hallucination bit. Like… Wtf? People don’t just start hallucinating especially not a whole scene. That’s super fucked up and shows how bad his psyche was at that time. And that wasn’t even late-exile.
Might I add a few other messed up things here?
- Dream specifically forbade Tommy from having farms, making him weaker since he barely had any consistent source of food
- The whole of Mexican Dream existence was canon, which means that Tommy actually saw someone who was trying to help him get murdered in front of him with Dream immediately after trying to convince him that “it was an accident” and that he “didn’t murder MD” (in case anyone was doubting if there was gaslighting involved)
- Dream constantly switching between keeping Tommy from unaliving himself and threatening his life every few minutes and ending up telling him he “Tommy would never do it anyway” after he blew everything up. That scene was literally so damn messed up.
- Dream also constantly sweeped in to kill mobs for Tommy while he was there and actually encouraged him to ask for his help when he was there, all the while leaving him defenceless (you know, since he couldn’t keep armour) when he wasn’t there, both physically and psychologically since he made Tommy reliant on himself to the point where Tommy would let mobs bring him on the brink of death on the regular. He also didn’t stop having this trait for quite a while after (he was literally letting two skeletons shoot at him when Techno found him) as well as associating Dream with safety because of his conditioning (like him immediately looking for Dream after he had a panic attack in the final control room)
- Also honorable mention to him keeping a hay bale in his hand to mlg in the nether when he was with Fundy and Ranboo, but never using it and acting extremely recklessly
- And other honorable mention, Dream noticing the chests Tommy and Ranboo used to exchange mails at the very start by the portal that was further away from camp (and therefore kinda harder to intercept and harder to stop Ranboo from going to visit Tommy) and basically forcing Tommy to move the portal where it would be easier to control for Dream
I don’t have much to add but this has a Lot of implications for canon that go unnoticed
- tommy’s referenced exile as having lasted months in character, meaning that it wasn’t presented in real time. this both means that exile was a lot longer than many people realize (it’s an easy line to miss or forget) And that there’s parts of his exile that we just didn’t get to see.
we missed the Majority of tommy’s time in exile and we have no idea what was said or done to him when the camera was pointed away
- dream commissioned sam to make pandora’s vault near the beginning of tommy’s exile. we now know that while it was made to hold many people, the highest security cell was specifically designed with tommy’s triggers in mind. dream had always planned on locking tommy away, he was only keeping tommy in logstedshire so he’d have access to him when the vault was ready.
Before anyone objects that “the main cell wasn’t made for Tommy”, might I remind you that the only confirmation of that comes from Dream while he was talking to Tommy. Since when are we blindly trusting anything c!Dream tells c!Tommy?
The whole thing was confirmed out of character to have been made with c!Tommy in mind, to have been designed especially for him and, at the time it was commisioned, Dream had no reason to want anyone else in it.
I know a lot of people think it was for Techno but that just doesn’t make any sense. Techno and Dream have been allies from the very start, Techno has literally been a perfect tool for Dream all this time. He not only had NO REASON to imprison him, but it would also have been a negative for him as he would have lost one of his most consistent and powerful allies…
Also, another thing I want to add on the exile:
- Dream during Doomsday (and later in prison) described multiple times how having Tommy somewhere isolated where only he could visit had been his ideal and had been fun and enjoyable for him. Dream actually fully liked the exile and he apparently (though we should take this with a grain of salt) thought it was somewhat enjoyable for Tommy as well as, in Dream’s words: “It wasn’t that bad, you had me!”.
Generally the whole “I’m your friend” thing that we all talk about, basically, was messed up for more then one reason and, possibly, Dream actually believed it…
