Culture on Tumblr has long tended to push for cutting people out of your life for various reasons: because getting along is a strain, or they don't understand some things about you, or even differing opinions about fandoms. Isolating one's self more and more to such an extreme should only be for emergencies, such as escaping a domestic abuse situation. It isn't the best solution for most differences without considering its downsides. It creates an echo chamber that leaves a person out of touch with other perspectives in the world than their own, which makes a person vulnerable to falling for cults. It unravels support networks that result in the person being very alone when they need more hands on a difficult problem.

What happened to Internet culture being about the excitement of getting to talk with people from all over the world who come from very different walks of life than your own? Of friendly debate forums where you're interested in learning about each other's viewpoints without pressure to adopt them too, and accepting this diversity as part of your community? Even aside from Internet culture, it's valuable to recognize that you don't have to agree with someone on everything, and that they can be a friend who you share some types of conversations and activities with, even if the two of you don't see eye-to-eye about other things.

No subscription. Just program.
