I’m also realling loving the disabled character telling off a character who was genetically engineered and whose people are genetically engineered because of the fact that if they saw a person like her in their vats, missing two arms and a leg, they’d just flush the whole thing.

I appreciate that Olli, the disabled woman, said as much, and I appreciate that Solace is taking days to think this over and didn’t immediately say something harsh back and then deny the ableism. I also think Solace is great, especially since she’s actually taking time to learn in this book.

Being good at Names is a highly underrated skill in science fiction, classic and modern. You can't just take an ominous noun and slap a definite article and capital letter on it anymore. What does it mean? What's the vibe? I don't know. The Domain. The Hive. The Facility. The Hierocracy. "A Demesne Capital Ship just came out of hyperspace!" Okay. Sure. Yawn. Is that a good thing? A bad thing? Who cares. I don't care.

Adrian Tchaikovsky is good at names. When something called a "Naeromathi Locust Ark" surfaces from unspace in your outer solar system, you don't need any other information to know that somebody is going to have a very bad day.

Folks with this whole "you're old once you hit 25" mentality are just buying into a repackaged "you need to have your life figured out by 18 and if you're not successful by 22 you're a failure" load of shit. Like....bruh, life doesn't end at 25. Idk how to tell you that the time limit you're silently imposing on yourself and your peers is largely responsible for your dissatisfaction with your life. Stop living your life like happiness has an expiration date. It doesn't.
