I wonder how many of this toy were eventually stashed in the back of a closet or dumped off at Goodwill for inadvertently inducing nightmares in infants?
In any case, it brings a whole new meaning to the phrase “play with the baby”.
Now all we need is for someone to find and hollow out one of these bad boys, and convert it into a sweet keytar.
“Friendship is a fucking hassle.”
Is it bad that I want one?
Meh Little Pony
Meh Little Pony
OH MY GOD.
This pony is so done with this world.
SO DONE.
I thought, after that last post, that it was important for people to see how Tirek was in the first generation. This is a compilation of all of his scenes from Rescue from Midnight Castle (1984).
People were complaining that the battle between Twilight and Tirek was somehow “too scary”, and couldn’t possibly appeal to little girls.
Listen to the inherent menace of this character’s voice. It is not booming and larger-than-life, because it doesn’t need to be. It is cold and restrained, and therefore a much more sinister presence. Also, they used the sound of a HUMAN HEARTBEAT to represent the Rainbow of Darkness. I’m sorry, but as a horror fan, there is something RIDICULOUSLY creepy about a pulsating bag that sounds like a human heart. Hell, any pulsating BAG is inherently creepy (Audition, anyone?).
Not only does Tirek intend to transform ponies into dragons to pull his chariot (and bring about “the night that never ends”), but he threatens Scorpan that if he doesn’t secure all four, he’ll CUT OFF SPIKE’S HEAD. This motherfucker is willing to just up and KILL a baby dragon as punishment for someone else’s failure (remember - G1 Scorpan isn’t really the monster he appears to be, but a prince transformed by the Rainbow of Darkness that’s being forced to do Tirek’s bidding).
I want people to experience the tone and pacing of the original series, and see what Bonnie Zacherle had always intended it to be: An adventure series for all children - not just girls.
A lot of people nowadays don’t remember that in the 80′s and early 90′s, literally EVERYTHING had a cartoon series.
There were cartoon series for various toy lines (we all remember My Little Pony, G.I. Joe, Strawberry Shortcake, etc), but it didn’t stop at toys that it was easy to base a cartoon on…
Then there were cartoons based on video games…
Cartoons based on popular bands/artists…
Cartoons based on celebrities…
Cartoons based on horror movies/series that were absolutely NOT appropriate for kids…
A cartoon based on a kind of candy…
And A CARTOON BASED ON A T-SHIRT DESIGN.
EVERYTHING IN THE 80′S AND EARLY 90′S HAD A CARTOON.
Basically, if anything was even slightly noteworthy, the logic was “HEY, YOU KNOW, IF WE HAD A CARTOON WE COULD HAVE EVEN MORE SUCCESS.” It seemed to perpetuate despite how many attempts were absolute trainwrecks because sometimes it actually worked. It seemed to be almost completely random which IPs actually pulled it off, too. (Case in point: The Mighty Max cartoon was awesome, shut up.)
Some of these intro I’m about to post are from the “Haha wow what were people DOING back then” and some are “Hey that show was great, fuck you >:(” But all of them were “Hey here’s a popular thing let’s give it a cartoon and see what happens!” Why did some of them work?
I was purposefully avoiding mentioning the Little Shop cartoon in order to protect those who haven’t had to witness it firsthand, as it’s an affront to humanity. It perfectly demonstrates exactly how NOT to execute the switch from film to children’s cartoon. Granted, changing the ages of characters for the move to the animated realm isn’t new (the Killer Tomatoes cartoon did this with the protagonist), and it’s not the fact that they changed a villain into a “good guy” (just look at the Beetlejuice cartoon–which, by the way, was amazing). It also has nothing to do with the “urban” spin on it, because the 90′s overall was very heavily influenced by hip-hop culture. The show just simply failed to deliver entertainment, and I don’t doubt that Saban may have had a hand in screwing it up (let’s not get into Saban’s original take on Sailor Moon…).
Also, SOMEONE ELSE WHO REMEMBERS MIGHTY MAX. That show was fucking awesome.
worst part of being an adult is how often youre forced to nag. you Have to be annoying or youre never getting anything done. which is unfortunate considering how common it is to teach kids to never nag and be annoying ever
a professional i am paying money doesnt show up w zero communication and IM the one who has to feel guilty for having to call him and ask whats going on. because when i was a little kid i would get yelled at for nagging. joke world

Oingo Boingo - Dead Man's Party 1986
"Dead Man's Party" is a song by American band Oingo Boingo, released as the third single from their fifth studio album of the same name. The song was released on a 12" single in conjunction with another song from the album, "Stay". It is perhaps best known for its appearance in the 1986 film Back to School, where the band performed it at a party.
The lyric, "I hear the chauffeur coming to my door/Says there's room for maybe just one more," is a reference to "The Bus-Conductor," a short story by E. F. Benson about a hearse driver, first published in The Pall Mall Magazine in 1906. The story has been adapted several times and spawned an urban legend, with each version using the catchphrase, "Room for one more".
Danny Elfman performed the song as the final encore of his Nightmare Before Christmas concerts at the Hollywood Bowl in 2015, 2016, and 2018, and at Banc of California Stadium in 2021, alongside his former Oingo Boingo guitarist and arranger Steve Bartek.
"Dead Man's Party" received a total of 80,9% yes votes! Previous Danny Elfman polls: #5 "This Is Halloween".
