My least favorite new politically correct term is "unhoused." Like you can just tell it was created to make liberals feel less icky when talking about homeless people.

I was homeless. I was homeless as a child and as an adult. That shit sucks believe it or not.

The uncertainty. The ever-present grimy feeling from lack of access to running water. Having nothing to your name. The shame you feel is asking your fellow man for the bare minimum. Just so much shame, man.

"Unhoused" is so clinical. A technical term. Sure, its not incorrect, but it doesn't properly convey the emotional and psychological impact homelessness has on you.

You say "house", I think of a structure.

You say "home", I think of stability.

obsessed with characters being saved against their will. being knocked unconscious and carried away from a danger they won't stop trying to fight. being shoved through a portal somewhere far away and safe right before it closes. trying to self-sacrifice only to have the exact person they're trying to save swap their places at the last second. getting the only cure to the disease or curse bc the person administering it loves them too much to give it to anyone else, including themselves. being thrown to safety right as they had accepted dying. someone else they thought had gotten to safety running back to drag them out of danger. it's so fucking tasty

Remember "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle" ? I feel like there's been a distancing from the "reduce" and "reuse" part and a favoritism towards "recycle" by corporate American.

Capitalism can still thrive with recycling in the mix. You buy Plastic Thing 1, throw it away after one use, and they take that and recycle it into Plastic Thing 2 and sell it back to you. All while continuing to harm the environment.

Reusing puts a damper on things. They can't sell you Plastic Thing 2 when you're still using Plastic Thing 1. Plastic forks, for example- there is literally no reason why you can't reuse plastic forks more than once (aside from maybe microplastics, but it's too late for that)

Reducing is the one everyone wants to ignore. Just don't buy Plastic Thing 1. You don't need Plastic Thing 1. Pick up a set of metal forks and use those for years. Convenience is killing the planet

the slogan is in that order for a reason! It is listed in order of effectiveness and impact; if you can't reduce, reuse. If you can't reuse, recycle.

Recirculate what you don’t need by sharing or selling onward

Refurbish what’s fallen out of good condition so it lasts longer

Repair what’s broken altogether

Repurpose what can’t serve its original function

Recycle what is unsuitable for repurposing

What goes unsaid here is why they’re all “re-“ prefixed: it’s about circularity. Keeping the resources in use means that we don’t have to keep incurring the environmental costs of production over and over on infinite one-way trips of new stuff starting in the earth, through human society, and right back into the earth in landfill.

theres a youtuber ive watched before he ever hit 1k. hell, before he hit 800. he had subtitles on his first video. manual ones, not auto-generated ones. IF HE CAN DO THAT THEN SO CAN SOME FUCKASS WITH THOUSANDS OR MILLIONS OF SUBSCRIBERS. OR AT LEAST FUCKING PAY SOMEONE TO DO THE SUBTITLES

and i hate the autogenerated subtitles so much. if the person swears or says a slur and it isnt censored, DONT CENSOR IT IN THE SUBTITLES. if its censored in speech, then censor it in subtitles. but if someone says a slur outright, no censoring? put it in the damn subtitles, i dont care, subtitles are for telling you what someone says

Dear video essay creators. A video analysis is when you analyze a piece of media. No no look at me. A summary, no matter how thorough, is not an analysis. An analysis requires you to draw conclusions about the media such as authorial intent, real-world parallels, discussion about themes/worldbuilding/character motivation, and so much more. You have to stop summarizing something and saying that’s analysis. The Gaylors are doing more critical analysis than you. Is that who you want to lose to? The gaylors?

Actually, theres a lot more to it than just Uber being less expensive. As someone who is a firefighter/EMT, I feel I can speak here. Many many jurisdictions across the country operate on a volunteer basis. Meaning if you have an emergency, volunteers need to respond. That’s the only help you get. And that’s not to undermine them in any way, that’s to say they are your only available resource. So house A calls 911 and is taken to the hospital for something. That ambulance crew is tied up now for at minimum 1.5 hours. Meaning if anyone else in that locality has an emergency and needs an ambulance, they now need to wait for another ambulance, from another jurisdiction to respond.

Say a homeowner in house A called for an ambulance because their spouse had fallen and injured their wrist. Sure they could drive their spouse, or if not they could call a cab, but they’re worried (as most would be) so they insist an ambulance does the transport. That unit is out of service on this call when someone in house B is going into cardiac arrest. Local ambulance is busy tending to a wrist injury. They can’t just drop it and leave. That’s not how it works. Now the family of house B has to wait for an ambulance from 3 towns over to make it there while their loved one is in cardiac arrest.

This same instance happens in big cities with paid providers as well. I’m a career provider for a city of about 9 square miles with 3 ambulances. But there will be times 6 EMS calls come in at once. And we have to take them in the order they come in. The first 3 often times will be complaints of “I fell yesterday and now my leg hurts” or “my husband has the flu and I don’t feel comfortable driving him because he may throw up”, then sure enough once all of our EMS units are tied up on calls…life or death type calls start coming in. And those people now have to wait for out of town ambulances to come to their aid.

This isn’t about affording anything. Most ambulances use soft billing, which means if you can’t afford it, they drop it. This isn’t about millenials throwing a wrench in the system, this is about using the system properly.

Many jurisdictions encourage you to take Uber or a cab if you can afford it and if you’re not in a life/death situation. In fact many localities now will dispatch an ambulance, and if they feel you’re not in a life/death emergency, they’ll give you a voucher to take a taxi cab FOR FREE so that they can keep that EMS unit available for more time sensitive calls.

Just keep that in mind before forming a conclusion based on an article title.
