Ah yes, my favorite chronic illness game: is this normal, is this new, or am I dying?
My standing artwork for ZOLA V6 has been released!!
In a twist that feels like a dream turned reality, I received the opportunity to create official artwork for the ZOLAs!! You can download the full artwork alongside more than 30 alternate expressions from the ZOLAs character page on the SoundUD website. Please be sure to check it out!!
Also, once again, a massive thanks to @ricedeity for their input on the designs!! I'll reblog this post shortly with a copy of our behind-the-scenes design tour w
As promised, here's a brief tour of our design process, including tons of sketches and scrapped concepts! More below the cut!
Background
Back in June of last year, Mr. Seto of Yamaha contacted me to ask if I would be interested in a collaboration project. The project goals were difficult for me to handle on top of my internship, but luckily, rice gladly offered to join forces and tackle the project together. And so, we set out to create some brand new ZOLAs!
Theme Exploration
The original design prompt we were provided was very open and offered a lot of flexibility, so rice and I began by experimenting with a lot of bold thematic designs. Here are just a few pages of the work we put together during this time (the volume and quality of rice's work during this stage was amazing w).
After 2 weeks of work, however, we realized the only ZOLA niche that hadn't been filled yet was "virtual singer," so we completely disregarded all of our proposed themes and went with that instead w.
Building the Virtual Singer
Of the designs we'd put together, we decided our "modern idol" set was the best candidate to combine with the V6 interface-inspired elements we'd happened upon in the "vintage tech" set. Taking what we liked from the set, we began playing with the shapes and design elements.
Rice and I passed the designs back and forth for a long while, building on what we liked and taking out what we decided was annoying and pointless to drawâafter all, what good would these designs be if not even we could be convinced to draw them again?
Design Finalization
Once we had a rough idea of what we wanted, we began finalizing the designs, which took an almost painful amount of time, but was well worth it in the end. Here are three snapshots out of probably 50+ adjustments and iterations we made w. Quite literally, at one point we spent at least three days just deciding what color to make KYO's pants w.
Pose Thumbnailing
But after much deliberation, we settled on the designs that now appear in the official art! All that was left was thumbnailing poses and drawing the actual artwork. If you look closely, you can almost spot the thumbnails we eventually chose w.
And that's about the whole of it ! ! ! Rice's input was invaluable practically every step of the way, and I'm incredibly thankful they agreed to be a part of this project w
Rice and I aren't finished yet, though!! We still have one more part left to this collaboration! Please look forward to a special upload this ZOLA anniversary! See you on June 20th!! đ

What is this about the tumblr staff wanting to sell art data to midjourney?
An ex-colleague of mine mentioned yesterday that there may be contacts between Automattic and midjourney in that direction, but nothing is public yet and I don't have any more info. They probably won't have anything specific to share either, since they left the company weeks ago too. That being said:
I have no reason to doubt my ex-coworker word, they are a trustworthy person.
Tumblr's CEO has been absurdly enthusiastic (comically, even) about AI, and is a big fan of LLMs and 'AI' companies.
A deal with midjourney could solve tumblr financial issues (not the same company, but openAi is paying up to 5 million/year to news companies to use their content as training data... tumblr generates several orders of magnitude more content than any newspaper or any media company and it only would need a 20 to 30 million per year deal to be profitable)
So I don't have any extra info yet, but I'm keeping my ears open.
And I just got confirmation from a second ex-colleague that a deal with midjourney has been brewing since months ago. Not any extra details, just that's a real thing.
Shit, I don't see any way for this to happen that doesn't make it an apocalyptic event the size of the porn ban. Fuck.
Shit. This may be pure chance and coincidence, and it's not he is in a position to be able to talk about anything, but seeing prominent staff members announcing they are moving their original photography out of tumblr just two weeks ago seems a pretty significant cue of shit to be about to hit the fan.
"he would not fucking say that" but you ever be looking at fanart and suddenly its "he would not fucking have abs"
i said it was my favorite piece of media that iâve hyperfixated on since the tender age of 12 and have not let go of since. i didnt say it was a Good piece of media
âwhat do you like about it so much?â the fact that it cocooned me like a tender wool blanket during my vulnerable teenage years. next question
Anafah (human)
idk I just personally think that getting chills from music is the best part of being alive. like when a song is so good you can feel it in your whole body. that's why I'm here.
