watching my ex reblog posts about transmisogyny from transfems while knowing that they directly allowed and condoned me getting pedojacketed and harassed & doxxed as a transfem is sure an interesting feeling.
It is textbook performative activist to just post shit about a problem and then contribute to it, you are not automatically a good person for simply knowing about an issue, you need to walk the talk, so to speak.
Actually go look at how youve treated trans women (or really any minority deemed as 'scary' for this mf) in ur life and get back to me when you can treat them all with kindness and not blatant abuse when they upset you.
& yes this includes other trans people, everyone needs reflection on their actions.
No!!! Why is Jax the focus in episode 9??? Why isn't the focus on the characters whose arcs have already been completed and who have grown as people? Why is the focus on the character whose arc hasn't been completed?? Why does episode 9 focus on the protagonists and the antagonist? Why wasn't the supporting cast given a focus on their already completed arcs? Well, I hate Jax, so I'm not even going to try to understand the character's message and theme. I'm not even going to consider that she might be a closeted trans woman. Clearly, there are no trans women with internalized transphobia and transmisogyny!!! Topics like that make me uncomfortable, so I'll pretend they don't exist!!! Queer rep should only be for flawless characters and perfect victims. And all the characters hate Jax!!! Everyone being visibly sad and upset about Jax's "death" means they hate Jax!!! They all made a huge tent for Jax, and Zooble sacrificed several of his arms because they all HATE Jax. They all forgave Caine, but clearly Jax was the only one who was irredeemable. I just hate one of the protagonists in this story, so I want the author to change the story to my liking instead of me accepting that it's not for me and watching (or doing) something I enjoy. /SARCASM, IRONY, SATIRE (please)
intersex people should be allowed to liberate the transgender experience from assigned sex at birth. intersex people can have an incredibly complicated experience with their asab and forcing them into another sex based binary when talking about their transition experience is not fair.
perisex trans people please stop enforcing the sex binary. if you are placing a non-inclusive sex-based definition of transmasc/transfem above the actual lived experiences of real intersex people and their transition stories, you are not an ally to us. transgender in my opinion should be for anyone who has the experience of gender transition away from what they were expected to be or raised as. Which, yeah, can often correlate to asab, but you need to listen to intersex people when they tell you for us it often doesnt correspond to that for us.
best case scenario Digital Circus gets remembered in a similar way as Steven Universe: a show that was Really Fucking Good and had nuanced characters and interesting things to say, but the audience wasn't quite ready for it and it imploded into a discourse ball. four years from now I expect to see lesbians drawing Jax like she's a renaissance muse the same way people still draw Pearl or Lapis
i hate how common it is for trans women & transfems to be victims of DARVO. we aren't unwell, broken, or unreasonable for speaking up against violence. we aren't self victimizing for knowing we deserve accountability, for knowing that we don't deserve harm. we are not abusers for not being okay with abuse.
ive been thinking about this for a while, about how the way jax is treated by some fans irl is a really bitter reflection of her status as a closeted trans woman. it feels like it adds to the tragedy of it in a way. i see so many fans vitriolically referring to her as a man, refusing to think any further and only thinking they see some sort of predator and abuser. insisting she is irredeemable and should be shunned by the only people she has in her life. jax isn't real but even so, her actions are treated as if they are. "jax is just gooseworx's favourite" yeah. why do you think that is? what is she putting of herself in jax? why do you automatically assume this means the transfem creator must be a violent and abusive person instead of anything else? why do you say you want to see more messy female art but make an exception in this case? the whole thing feels like metatextual performance art.
I hate how a large portion of the tadc fandom seems to be slavering at the mouth for an easy character to point to as the absolute irredeemable monster who causes all the problems in the show and deserves punishment for it. An idea which is antithetical to the show your watching btw
okay big title warning but I got out of the movies and had a great time but I also have Thoughts and Opinions and I want to rant so I'm ranting below wahooo here's another of probably thousands tadc rant posts out there now
okay first of obviously transfem Jax. I win I win I win, episodes 1-8 it was a very logical reading of her character that I really liked but now it's basically canon. yeah they don't spell it out and say "Jax is a transgender woman" but like. they don't need to. they didn't need to say Owen is a trans woman in I Saw the TV Glow either it's the same thing. that's the text of the story there's so much in this that just isn't explainable with other readings that rabbit is a repressed trans woman.
and she's dead oopsie. I saw the leaks so I knew that would happen but I think it works, it's a warning and a story of repression that's again like isttvg and Owen. I was kinda conflicted on this at first because I wanted her to have a happy ending and start transitioning but she's off and abstracted. I do think it's kinda interesting how abstraction seems less permanent than it did before? like I can't say for sure it's possible to come back from but it wouldn't upset me if it could happen in the same way it probably would have if someone came back earlier. still though thematically having Jax refuse to find meaning and break gets more compelling the more I think about it and also holy shit Michael Kovach crushed it here what a performance. all the cast did great but him especially.
Pomni is also great here, I've never been a huge Pomni fan but this was her best yet imo I loved her here. she's such a great emotional core for the story and this makes it the clearest
couple complaints but I wish Ragatha had at least a little more to do. I'm not too upset about Kinger, Zooble, or Gangle being side characters here because they haven't been the focus but I just rewatched the rest of the show before this and it really feels like Ragatha is done dirty a few times with things happening off screen when they really shouldn't have. I think episode 9 is a victim of that because her talk with Pomni just doesn't hit as hard as it could have if they actually showed them talk between 6 and 7. Caine's redemption also felt a bit rushed. it makes sense for his character, but it just felt rushed and like a weird leap going from episode 8 to 9. idk it's not a bad idea just needed more time to actually work for me
also wow it really helped watching this in english and not 480p that helps the viewing experience a lot who'd have thought
