Hii! I love your art for years and honestly I'm always fascinated the way you shade your artwork and use light in your illustrations. Have any tips??
one should always take any rendering tips from me WELL SALTED but i shall endeavor for u anon
i think it's generally easier to add light rather than draw cast shadows. clip a multiply layer on for a fast way to harmonize color and add light
try messing with different colors for multiply + color of the light itself according to the mood/ambiance of the image. intense, colored light sits on/reflects differently depending on the surfaces' own color and texture
example: in this case i knew i wanted the top half to be bright overall + the color scheme to be warm blues + yellow, so i added multiply layer to the bottom half and carved out 3d forms where the light falls
light & shadow are key ways to indicate 3d volume as well as describe forms + there's lots of other considerations with reflected light, focused vs diffused, occlusion etc! i personally prefer simple/flatter rendering and think it's fine to break rules if it achieves the effect(s) u desire. hope that helps (at least a little...!!)

fuck it. be creative even if you never really *make* anything. write out plot synopses of stories and then move on. design OCs you'll never use. make mood boards and concept art and don't do anything with them. life's too short to forget everything that inspired you and creation doesn't have to be "complete" to be worth the time you put into it.
