You know, Mary may act like she's tough and stuff, but she is really pretty sensitive. And she's still really hurt after that last blowout you two had. - gingercopbeyond
Deej, she accuses me of sleeping around any chance she can get! She gets angry I have friends. It isn’t my fault that she feels the need to be a martyr. How does she think I feel when she says those things? How do YOU think I feel? Why can’t you ever stick up for me?
“She tells me differently, you know that is what caused this whole big fight between us, right?” she rolled her eyes. “It would be great if she could stop being a psycho for two seconds and not be a bitch to me and turn around and be helpful to me behind my back.”
Though to be fair, she was supremely happy with his decision to take a leave from the force for a little while at least. Tristan needed to bond with his daddy too, and it meant that Blade wouldn’t feel so desperately lonely.
Blade bit her tongue when Deej said neither meant to set the other off. She still believed Mary had it out for her, sincerely. She softened when Deej went to his knee, stroking his hair back with a soft hand. “You’re the only reason I’m relenting, D.J.”
“Isn’t that kind of backwards?” Deej asked, sincerely perplexed by the oddities of female interaction. “I thought it was nice to your face but stab you in the back most girls are afraid of.”
But then again, he had to concede that nothing about this progression had made sense. Mary had sort of bided her time, and if Deej had to be honest, he’d sort of broken the bro code by taking up with Blade. It was all so tangled. Something like those rumors that never seemed to die about his mother and Grandpa Bruce.
He smiled and kissed her gratefully. “And I’m forever glad that one of you is sensible enough to be nice.”
