Ember, they/them, 30s, see pinned post for more! (ID: Icon is a picrew of a white person with red hair. Header image is an image of Hades from the video game Hades. It is edited to say “Look at my flop posts boy”. Image is by tumblr user vimmark)
Hi all! It’s been a bit since I’ve done an about me type post or bio on here, but since I’ve gotten off of most other social media platforms and may begin posting here every now and again just to soothe the urge to talk into the void, I figured I would take a crack at a pinned post!
Basic facts:
-You can call me Em or Ember, they/them.
-trans nonbinary queer person (tme)
-white USAmerican
-Fat
-Autistic, ADHD, with other stuff that tends to accompany those (hypermobility stuff, visual snow syndrome, etc)
-In my early 30’s
Stuff about this blog:
-I’ve been here on tumblr since 2012..
-This blog is pretty locked down settings-wise for privacy reasons, you won’t be able to see it if you’re not logged in
-I would really prefer in general that people NOT share my posts outside of tumblr via screenshot or whatever. If for any reason you would like to share something, ask my permission first
-I’m more than happy to tag anything you need tagged, just send me a message please!
More info about me and fun things under the cut
Special interests (not an exhaustive list, just the biggest ones):
-Medicine/anatomy and physiology/healthcare
-Religion and mythology
-symphonic metal and related genres, especially Nightwish
-Supergiant Hades (and Hades 2)
-Animal Crossing
Fun facts/stuff you’ll see me reference occasionally:
-I’m a medical professional: currently my full-time job is that I’m a practitioner in an orthotic and prosthetic clinic. Also my education/background is in sports medicine, and I still do some traditional athletics-related stuff per diem. Don’t want to overwhelm with detail here, but please feel free to ask, because i love talking about my profession(s)! (Just remember that I cannot give actual medical advice on here)
-My graduate school research was on the healthcare experiences of trans athletes. I was able to publish this research in a well-respected journal in my field (let me know if you even want the link to it), and that gave me the opportunity to speak regionally and nationally about this topic several times. I also have done a lot of education and advocacy as a visibly trans person in my field. Unfortunately I’ve been dealing with autistic burnout over the last couple years which made me step back from a lot, but I would like to return to doing this work again soon.
-very happily in a triad with my “wife” (not technically married yet) and our boyfriend :)
-I practice Buddhism
-I have a celebrity relative- someone who is not currently in the spotlight too much but was pretty mega-famous years ago. It comes up here sometimes both for the sake of jokes but also because it has shaped how I view public figures and para-social relationships.
-Despite having the lack of coordination and spatial awareness that is common to autistic people, I started playing tennis competitively as a teen and ended up playing in college/university. Its a pretty wild story that would make for a neat but corny underdog-sports-story someday (as long as creative liberties were taken lol), but more importantly its why I have a lot of thoughts about how sports function as part of our society and how it both shapes and is shaped by our worldview and politics
There’s other stuff you’ll see come up here probably but I think that’s enough for now. If you’ve made it this far, you for reading! 💜
Hades 1 is a Roguelike only from Zag's perspective. Persephone is playing some sort of cozy sandbox game (minecraft), Hades is playing a management sim, Than/meg is playing a dating sim
"do you know how waterwheels grind up grain in a water mill using the force of running water? We found a way to create a huge source of force that runs all the time and can transfer its force over long distance. I can tell you in more detail, but that's the basics. Now that is a chime that has a mechanism that one can press instead of having to open the door to let you know that you are waiting to be let in. It requires the transferred force to make the mechanism work and that wire is how we transfer the force to the chime."
i love these sort of posts because they feel like a vision of a kinder and more thoughtful world that I wish more than anything was the mainstream instead of the exception
A doll youtuber I watch has made a video about the history of Polly Pocket, and she's describing the plots of the dvd specials, one of which features an elderly woman named Ms. Throckmorton, and my reaction was
