@girl-unforgiven
I love you times a million. Sometimes being in California is especially tough, but you make it worth it. I’m so lucky to have you in my life.

Reasons over miles
Find someone who argues the same way you do. Better yet: when you’re pissed at each other take however much time you need before working it out together. It doesn’t do either person very much good to speak out of anger to intentionally hurt the person.

Being a supportive parents to your trans daughter AND standing up to her trolls and mocking them openly. Good parenting.
Minecraft Pride Banners Masterpost
We all know that minecraft is gay culture, so I decided that I would figure out how to make a whole lot of pride banners. Links to all of my pride banner guides under the cut, in alphabetical order. If there are any flags I don’t have in here that you would like me to add, please don’t hesitate to ask!

Who?
Am I supposed to miss something I’ve never had? Sure at one point you were actually “Dad” but that was only for the “fun” stuff and only ever for a couple days at a time. Never for the day of holidays, never for my birthday. I was lucky if you actually remembered my birthday. But when the other parent was abusive, nonexistent was the preferred option.
But now you cut off communications between us, and I kept it that way. More accurately you chose money over your child. I know I’m supposed to feel hurt, but I’ve never had any expectations for you.
But I’m forever connected, not just by biology but last name. And its the only part of me that’s ever identified as “Asian” its the only part of me that’s identifiably Asian. Am i supposed to feel incomplete without it? Am I supposed to feel complete with it? I can’t look at my name without thinking about how it’s everything I’ve never wanted to be a part of.
“Female”
The first mistake I ever made was being born female. The world looked at you as less than. I always needed to justify my existence even in “safe spaces for women.” Safe spaces think that four different walls and posters preaching inclusion can keep women safe. A room can’t keep me safe from myself.

A Rose by another Name
I was given a last name that wasn’t even legally my father’s name when I was born. It wasn’t my mother’s last name either. But she chose it to keep something familial for people I wouldn’t meet until I was eight for a last name my dad wouldn’t share until I was almost 18.
But it was fine. It was what was “supposed to” be.
I never felt like I belonged an M. Between growing up with the side of the family that preferred to believe an M didn’t exist, a mother who realized around the time I was 10 that she could change my last name out of spite to D not because I was family but to define that I was not an M. My feelings toward my last name was complicated. As I got older I realized that being an M came with assumptions. First and foremost that I had a certain reputation and a set path decided for me. There were things I had to do. And because I didn’t look like the rest of the M’s I was expected to work harder to make up for it. And I did work hard, but not the right kind of work. Instead of sitting on a trust fund and being the 1%, I wanted to blow up the top 1%. I didn’t want to be an M. Part of me realized I didn’t have to be an M but what else could I be when I didn’t fit into the other category? So I settled for an M in namesake only.
Being an M meant to buy your way out of anything and there was no amount of money that you couldn’t buy out your problems. And when I made it obvious that I wasn’t going to live like the 1% and instead was going to work against it, I got every bribe and threat about money. But the M’s didn’t realize integrity and happiness isn’t something you can buy with money. I had no price because I refused to be a sellout to the top 1%. You can take your blank check and shove it. I even told them so. I wanted nothing to do with being an M.
And so I was cut off from two things: Netflix and my senior year tuition check. To the first one- oh no, now I’ll have to be a productive college student or ask a friend for their password.
To the second: normal college students take out loans. God forbid I actually be like everyone that wasn’t a trust fund brat. I didn’t want to be like them anyway. Free college was not worth the power behind where that money came from. So I took out loans, I worked my ass off and I graduated. With loans. Like everyone else does.
I found a job in my field of “unemployable liberal bull shit degree” as you called it. A well paying job for that matter. I didn’t need you to have a stake in my life anymore. Somewhere along the way, I decided to drop M and use my middle name for non-official purposes. After graduation I finally heard from an M: I was cut off and do not contact them again.
You can’t lose out on what you were never a part of.
Sometimes it hurts how much I need to write.
