i.  AYAMA AND THE THORN WOOD.
â love speaks in flowers. truth requires thorns. â
â we all know the story of how the queen becomes a queen. â
â we should leave this place. â
â no doubt it will come and devour us all. â
â the beast will laugh you right out of the wild lands. â
â you know how the stories go. interesting things happen only to pretty girls. â
â is the wood much worse than a garden overgrown with pricklers ? â
â stupid girl ! do you wish to become a monster ? â
â strike me. cleave me in two. â
â youâre as thorny as the wood. â Â
â there is but one rule in my wood. speak truth. â
â perhaps you might show mercy freely. â
â just eat a bit of the sun to fill the sky, and you will feel empty no longer. â
â what nonsense ! of course thatâs not how the story ends. â
â some people are born with a piece of night inside, and that hollow place can never be filled. â
â what do i care for winter ? no season touches this wood. â
â you know the only bargain i will make. â
â sometimes the unseen is not to be feared and those that are meant to love us most are not always the ones that do. â
â bad fates do not always follow those that deserve them. â
â no prince is worth your life. â
â are you so eager to be eaten ? â
â they have told me to return with your heart. â
â you think to love a monster ? â
â a man like you is owed no words. â
ii.  THE TOO CLEVER FOX.
â you are doomed to a miserable life. â
â better to be hungry now than to be sorry later. â
â what will everyone say when they see such a face ? â
â we have not gone so soft as that. â
â you think that we will let you live on foolish promises ? â
â you have bested me. that much is clear. â
â will you not free me ? â
â you will have a fine time of it, i can tell you. â
â i can bear ugliness. i find the one thing i cannot live with is death. â
â if you will only cease your talking, i will gladly go. â
â where he went, he bled the woods dry. â
â whatâs a bit more blood ? â
â you should leave this place. you are not safe here. â
â with such big eyes, i think you see too much. â
â will you not tell me what troubles you ? â
â why do you stay with him ? youâre pretty enough to catch a husband. â
â just because you escape one trap, doesnât mean you will escape the next. â
â first i must find my courage. â
â few can resist the sight of a pretty girl crying. â
â the trap is loneliness, and no one escapes it. not even me. â
â in the wood, even songbirds must be survivors. â
iii.  THE WITCH OF DUVA.
â there was a time when the wood ate girls. â
â be back before dark. the trees are hungry tonight. â
â who can say what shapes an appetite ? â
â this is my home, you canât just send me away. âÂ
â donât be foolish. thereâs plenty of light. â
â well then, come help me stir the pot. â
â i will warn you just this once. go. âÂ
â you cannot come and go from this place like youâre fetching water from a well. â Â
â hope made me stubborn. â
â stay there and keep quiet. i donât need rumors that iâve been taking girls. â
â i will not have you bring a monster to my door. â
â you know that you are welcome to remain here with me. â
â i will follow her. i will peck out her eyes. â
â believe me. say you believe me. â
â dark things have a way of slipping through narrow spaces. â
iv.  LITTLE KNIFE.
â it is dangerous to travel the northern road with a troubled heart. â
â if you are lost in your own thoughts, you may find yourself stepping off the path and into the dark woods. â
â she was beautiful from the moment of her birth. â
â why must i be the one to hide ? â
â do you think i am so foolish or so cruel ? â
â water only wants direction. it wants to be told what to do. â
â always you have done my bidding, but what good are you to me now ? â
â soon i will be very rich, but will i have a good man ? â
â that is a question for the river. â
â your tongue is not fit for my true name. â
â will you come with me, and be bride to nothing but the shore ? â
â she was terrifying in her beauty, bright like a devouring star. â
â remember that to use a thing is not to own it. â
â should you ever take a bride, listen closely to her questions. â
v.  THE SOLDIER PRINCE.
â this is the problem with even lesser demons. they come to your door in velvet coats and polished shoes. â
â you will find great love and more gold than you could wish for. â
â heâs a charming fellow, but most unusual, and peculiarities seem to follow him. â Â
â it seemed harmless at the time. â
â he needed a girl, still malleable, one that he could make admire him. â
â this is pleasant. this is enough. â
â are you my soldier ? are you my prince ? â
â i have not come to fight, only to talk. â
â wanting is why people get up in the morning. it gives them something to dream of at night. â
â i am perfectly real. â
â she loves you, though, and that will make it harder. â
â best not to ask. i think the answer would please no one. â
â we can stay forever in the land of dreams. â
â kiss me. take me from this place. â
â i sent you to die a hundred times. â
â i eat the wonder in their eyes. â
â you were an idea in my head. you were nothing, and to nothing you will return when i think of you no more. â
â you wanted only that i might live. you would sacrifice your own life to make it so. â
â are you my darling ? are you mine ? â
vi.  WHEN  WATER  SANG  FIRE.
â you wish to strike a bargain. â
â make me someone new. â
â this is the problem with making a thing forbidden. it does nothing but build an ache in the heart. â
â easy magic is pretty. great magic requires that you trouble the waters. â
â no one expects me to accomplish anything. â
â i can smell your ambition like blood in the water.â Â
â i know that you should keep it like a secret, not shout it like a curse. â
â yes. i can imagine it all. â
â you are worth more than that. you should not have to earn him. â
â hope rises like water trapped beneath a dam, higher and higher, in increments that mean nothing until you face the flood. â
â there is no pain like the pain of transformation. â
â take your pleasures as you will. â
â come, and iâll tell you all you wish to know. â
â he made me dream of things i cannot have. â
â i do not care for dancing. â
â look into the mirror, and try to deny it. â
â you have never been like the others, and you never will be. â
â we were not made to please princes. â
â i am not quite mortal either, and i have many lives to live. â
â i wouldnât care if you were part human or part frog. â
â my voice is not enough. â
â you know i was never strong. â
Sylvia Plath, from The Unabridged Journals

âShe is pale and beautiful. But if you speak to her, she doesnât listen at all. As if something were happening elsewhere-which only she can hear and is frightened by. She holds your hand tightly, she weeps, but she isnât there.â

@estarion. â± âĄ
đ«ame: asteria. (meaning "star / starry one"; also the greek titan of falling stars & nocturnal divination. an ode to both her parents, i think.)
đhysical đŁeatures: fairâskinned like both parents. eyes are shaped similar to her mother's, almost dollâlike, but shaded more rubyâred like her father's. features are more her father's, with balanced proportions & sharper features & high cheekbones. (inherited her father's nice lashes, too. lucky! oh, & his pointed ears.) nose is similar to amelia's: straight sloped with button nose-tip. lips are more amelia's as well, naturally rosy with the upper / bottom lip pretty full & equal. hair is dark, with curls very much like astarion's! (also has lil singular fangs that came in fully around three years, which was⊠fun.)
đersonality: as a baby / toddler, very curious! mischievous as soon as she learns what mischief is, really. of course, amelia teaches her to be polite & respectful asap, which she quickly learns to balance along with her tricksterâesque nature. astarion teaches her the... other stuff. (hunting, feeding, all that.) loves to read & study about magic / fairytales / etc. as she grows older, is more on the ambitious & confident side; a bit impatient, too. still likes to play little (somewhat harmless) pranks & tricks on others, but always remembers her mother's teachings to be kind to her elders & children & the earth.
đŽho đ±hey đ±ake đfter đȘore: honestly... takes after her father more than her mother. has her mother's eye shape & hair color, but that's about it. (lip & nose shape too.)
đersonal đ„eadcanon: i have a feeling that as she gets older, due to her almost otherworldly looks & charming (albeit sometimes difficult) personality, probably gets many confessions. however, is not easy to charm & doesn't just fall for some handsome / beautiful face. probably won't date or marry, but would rather just buy a home deep in the woods (ameliacore) & do her own thing. who knows, though!
hey girl, i noticed your boobs aren't bouncing as much as they normally are. is something wrong? do you want to talk about it?
it actually feels good as fuck to tilt your head at a slight angle when you don't understand something. the animals were right
thinking about the line â some people say that if the crows love you, they will lead you home, no matter how far you have wandered. but the crows do not love many people. â & amelia tonight.
