HELLO, UNIVERSE! HELLO, WORLD!
We’re GIST: Grace, Isa, Shane, and Tasha 🎀
GIST as in the core, the essence, the “this is what really matters” element. We’re here to capture the gist of what it means to write in this generation ✨
This blog is where we drop our takes, thoughts, and creations for emergent literature. We have a variety of works to offer you: Hyper poetry, flash fiction, creative non-fiction, chicklit, and this very blog!
This is our project space, our creative dump, and our proof that literature is very much alive online 💕
Welcome to our little corner of the internet. Stay tuned, scroll slow, and feel the GIST.
MEET THE MEMBERS, MEET THE GIST!
GRASYA ⭐
Hi! I'm Grace Antonette Saraspi, but you can also call me Grasya 🙂↕️. I'm currently a third-year student from BSEd English of Bicol University College of Education, with one valid ID and a pleasing personality.
Contemporary, Popular, and Emergent Literature has taught me a lot about the history and evolution of literature, as well as the enduring characteristics of each literary category. We were also introduced to the different types of emergent literature, all of which are essential to learn as 21st-century future educators. Being aware of and equipped with this knowledge will help us guide our future students effectively.
In this e-portfolio, I was assigned to make a blog, which is a great opportunity to improve my skills in posting and reaching wider audiences. So please, interact with me 😙👐 !
FUN FACT🙀:
One fun fact about me is that I don't finish watching a movie or series when I get too attached to the characters because I'm afraid I won't be able to see them again. In the end, I also don’t get to see the ending.
FAVORITE:
I like this GIF so much because it's funny, and I make the same face countless times per day. It can also be used as a reaction in many situations, so it's very versatile.
ISA 1️⃣🤓☝️
Hello! My name is Isabella R. Miraflor, but you can call me Isa! 1️⃣🤓☝️ I’m a third-year university student now from BUCE, block BSEd English 3, and my favorite food from Jollibee is hot Peach Mango Pie. 🍑🥭
Taking Contemporary, Popular, and Emergent Literature felt like a crash course in how people tell stories today — why some blow up, how new forms appear, and how literature somehow keeps up with the world’s chaos. Contemporary works, especially Kerima Polotan Tuvera’s “The Hand of the Enemy,” really made me rethink how stories reflect the issues we still deal with now. Popular literature also made me reflect on why I keep going back to classics like “Little Women” and “Adventures of Huckleberry Finn” — apparently my taste is a mix of “old soul” and “adventure kid.” But emergent literature was the real plot twist: technology reshaping storytelling and giving marginalized voices new spaces to speak. In the end, I loved discovering stories and ideas I didn’t even know existed, and this course definitely expanded my idea of what literature can be in a world that changes every five minutes!
For this E-portfolio, I made one flash fiction and ten six-word flash fiction samples. Since I haven’t been writing much, creating these felt like workout time for my storytelling muscles. I had to force my three remaining brain cells to make every single sentence earn its place, and, to have only a handful of words hit you with a whole emotional universe. So, I hope you enjoy!
FUN FACT: A fun fact about me is that I can finish six Jollibee Peach Mango Pies in one sitting as a dessert. 😊😎

I actually have no favorite meme, GIF, or emoji. But, I guess with my fun fact, you can just give me 6 pieces of Jollibee’s PMPs as a Christmas gift! 🎁😍
SHANE 🩷
Hi! My name is Shane Nidua and I loooove the color pink🩷. I am a third year student from Bicol University College of Education—and yes, my life now revolves around deadlines, readings, and convincing myself that I’m still okay 🥹
So far Contemporary, Popular, and Emergent Literature is okay for me…like okay lang sya.
But honestly, this course made me realize that the stories mirror the same struggles we face in real life, just written with a bit of fancy words and deeper meanings✨ It’s a blend of entertainment and mass appeal, it showed me how literature can still be relatable even in today’s world.
I will be writing one chicklit and one creative nonfiction, and I will use this as an opportunity to improve my writing skills. This will be a great way for me to explore different writing styles while expressing my personal experiences.
FUN FACT!
One fun fact about me is that I like exotic seafoods and I really wanna try barnacles and sea urchins🤤

My favorite emoji is this “😭” because you can use it with everything hahaha
TASHA 💌
Hello! I am writing this to introduce myself (lol 😝). I am Atasha Camille M. Raip, but you can call me Tasha (please don’t ever call me by my second name; that’s not fitting for my college personality 😵💫). I am currently a BSED English junior student at Bicol University College of Education, also the youngest among my blockmates!
Upon taking Contemporary, Popular, and Emergent Literature, I realized that there’s a difference among these three literatures (yeah, don’t come at me—I know I’m a simpleton 😅). However, delving deeper into this course, I’ve seen how literature emerges throughout the centuries. The literatures during the earlier centuries paved the way for my favorite literatures today! My favorite mangas, webtoons, and such would not exist without them! Thus, this course made me understand that contemporary, popular, and emerging literatures are as worthy as those literatures from past generations.
Moving forward, I will be writing three hyperfictions! However, please bear with me, as I am new to this literature and also a beginner in writing ✍️. My subject will be my beloved furbabies! So join me as I explore my life with them throughout the years! (Also, bear with me, as this literature will be my avenue for overcoming my grief for some of my furbabies who joined the Creator this year 😢.)
Fun fact! I really cringe whenever I write or type my name, or say my full name out loud! I don’t know why, but yeah—please don’t ask me for my name (just read this introduction 😭).
Favorite GIF? I don’t have any favorite 😭. I rarely use GIFs because I let my face card serve what GIFs are supposed to do (lol). Also, I prefer using emojis over GIFs—I am actually downloading some emojis from Pinterest and made them my stickers (yeah, iOS things lol 😭✋). Here’s my favorite downloaded one:
