LOUIS FOR FLAUNT MAGAZINE
Also the big bad thing Taylor Swift did to Olivia Rodrigo was get credit for her art? Taylor credited Emma Stone for oddities when no one has a clue what Emma Stone actually did besides maybe being in the same room as Taylor. Taylor credited her boyfriend of the time for humming a melody she used. Taylor credited George Michael for using the same title as him for a song. Sorry not sorry that Olivia literally admitted to using Cruel Summer as inspiration for Deja Vu and then had to give her credit for it. Especially in a world of AI, I think artists should be properly credited.
šāāļø The "Bad Boy" Mask and the Fear of Ruining Everything: Lyrical Analysis of Louis Tomlinson's "Jump the Gun"
In my last post, we talked about the character in Harryās song, who literally demands clarity and wants to take off from the starting line. Today, letās look at the flip side of that coināLouis Tomlinsonās track "Jump the Gun."You know, if the characters from these two songs just sat down and talked with their respective partners, they would realize they are being torn apart by the exact same feelings. In reality, though, Louis's character is in that bed agonizingly trying to force himself to... stay silent.
When Reason Loses to Emotion (The Concept of "Fact" and "Harder")
Louis's character, much like Harryās persona, tells a story of intense attraction. However, he leads with his strengths, first showing his usual, somewhat chaotic lifestyle:
āGot time for tattoos, cigarettes and alcohol / If you want it, you got it, better yet, just take it all.ā
This is his classic "bad boy" mask, acting as if nothing can touch him. But behind it lies an immense vulnerability. Louis's character, just like Harry's with his countdown, tries to ground himself with logic.
The use of the word āfactā is a desperate attempt to cling to reality.Look closely at this line:āThe fact that you like it makes it harder not to fall.āHere, he sings about his partner accepting his flawed lifestyle.
To me, this feels like an incredibly powerful moment: seeing his own desire reflected in his partner's eyes, the character feels just how difficult it is to fight it. This acceptance strips away his armor completely.
Another line follows the exact same structure:
āThe fact that I want you makes it harder to come down.ā
In both instances, the word āfactā is used as an attempt at rationalization, and āharderā highlights the struggle to stop himself. In other words, any attempt to act purely on reason utterly collapses under the weight of emotion. The passion is compared to a massive rush of adrenaline, from which it is "harder to come down" or ground oneself. The word āharderā in both lines proves that while the mind tries to build a dam, the feelings completely wash it away.
Cinematic Intimacy and Symbolic Images
Just like in Harry's track, physical sensations are used here to show rather than just tell us about this chemistry:
āThis conversation really got me goin' 'round / No hesitation, two Adidas off the ground / Singing from the bottom of my heart to the top of my lungs.ā
The detail about ātwo Adidas off the groundā is a brilliant marker for Louis's character. It represents a physical jump of absolute joy and chemistry, which he tries to hide behind his usual streetwear style.
Meanwhile, the line:āNo time for sleeping when your dreams are wide awakeā...feels very similar in mood to the "dirty feet" line in Harryās song. It captures that exact same passion where you don't even think about sleeping.
But while Harryās persona uses a more grounded, tangible image (dirty feet, a bed), Louisās character delivers something more metaphorical yet equally powerful. Reality with this person has become better than any dream, making sleep feel like an absolute crime.
The Inner Divide: Feigned Indifference vs. An Internal Cry
The sharpest internal conflict for Louis's character is hidden right in the chorus. The phrase ādon't jump the gun,ā repeated at the end of every thought, sounds like an obsessive inner voice. It betrays the insecurity that the character carefully hides behind his tough persona. He asks the questions:
āAre you coming back to mine? / Or am I running out of time?ā
He asks this casually, as if he doesn't care all that much about the answer. But deep down, he is panicking. He is agonizing over whether he is rushing things and whether this avalanche of feelings might scare his partner away.
The phrase āDon't jump the gunā isn't advice for the partner; it is his own mental restraint. Itās an attempt to keep himself from confessing, a voice constantly whispering in his head: "Slow down, don't pull the trigger too early." He wants to sing at the top of his lungs, but he forces himself to hold back.
A Moment of Absolute Vulnerability
The final verse gives us a fragile attempt to open up, serving as the true climax where the mask drops completely:
āIs it too good to be truе? Baby, I'm good either way / Is it too soon to love you? And if I do, would you say...ā
These lines expose a moment of raw vulnerability. He wonders if the other person is ready for such serious emotions right now, or if it will frighten them. Itās as if the character is admitting, āI love you already, but Iām scared itās too fast for both of us.ā
He instantly shifts into a defensive posture to soften the blow of a potential rejection:
āBaby, I'm good either way.ā
Itās a classic psychological block. In truth, he doesn't care if it's too good to be true; he has simply decided to enjoy the moment, no matter what happens next. He wants to say more, but that inner voice keeps telling him not to rush.
Yet, in the bridge, we finally hear his internal cry, where the floodgates burst open:
āOh-oh, oh-oh / I can't take no more / Oh-oh, oh-oh / What are we waiting for?ā
This is a moment of pure impatience and exhaustion from the uncertaintyāsomething he desperately wants to overcome, even though he is terrified. And this desire of Louis's character closely mirrors the desire of Harry's character from our previous analysis!
u can be boiling alive in your mind for months and then on a random tuesday ur head gets so clear and life is worth living again and you're like damn what was all that about then
A Years-Long Puzzle. The Story of One Great Love.
( Broken bones part 3)
His entire discography beautifully weaves into one massive, continuous story. This signature techniqueāhiding the most intimate message in the final seconds of a roaring chorusātruly migrates from album to album. It is his way of placing emphasis. For instance, in "Walls," the entire chorus is dedicated to monumental things: "These high walls never broke my soul." It is an anthem of resilience in the face of lifeās catastrophes. Yet, at the very end, the chorus quiets down, and Louis adds: "ā¦for you." The walls don't just crumble for no reasonāthey fall for the sake of a specific person. In "Broken Bones," this exact trick is repeated to a T. The noise of the struggle, the injuries, the madnessāand a quiet "ā¦with you" at the final point. It is the exact same narrative, but elevated to a new level of maturity. He is no longer just building or tearing down walls; he is physically ready to "break bones" just to preserve this connection. I think he has been pulling this narrative thread for years, repeatedly confessing his love to the one he sings about in his songs. Take, for example, "Too Young," where Louis regrets the past mistakes of youth. Itās the realization that the love was real, but they were simply too young to hold onto it. In the song "Sleepwalking," the protagonist admits he spent half his life "walking in his sleep" until he met the person who truly sees him. "Sleepwalking" also features the metaphor of space and satellites ("watching satellites pass by"), which then bleeds into the first verse of "Broken Bones" ("chasing satellites")! The songs have literally grown into each other. "Side by Side" is the most mature statement. The phrase "We'll keep growing up side by side" is the conclusion of a long search. It is a manifesto showing that despite the chaos and years in the industry, they are still together. Louis never says much about his personal life, but his discography speaks for itself. For years, he has been writing one big novel in verse, addressed to a single recipient who truly knows the flip side of his scars and victories.
I currently have an extra ticket for louis' show in Minneapolis on June 25th and I'm also thinking of getting a hotel for the day before, day of and after, I'm not asking for anything besides friendship as I have anxiety and social anxiety and some health issues and I don't really want to go alone nor do I want to miss out. Louis has helped me through a lot in the past 6 years that I've been a fan of his. I'm just giving back and showing that there's people who are still kind. If you want to go, please message me here or on Instagram which is 28static_ anyone is honestly welcome, just please be reliable and 18+, these tickets were not cheap and I don't want them to go to waste.

In all seriousness it's about reclaiming the performance of sex and sexuality for a (very queer coded) audience of his choosing. He's not worried about those American children whose hearts he'd break. He said I'll dance and they'll think it's for them but it'll be for me. He said I realized I could either come out 25 times without anyone buying it or I could just. Live my fucking life.
And I just think it's poetic that he references crying in the fucking club, probably getting to feel somewhat anonymous on a dance floor in the dark, music throbbing like heartbeats. Sweating and crying and flying and free.
He couldāve handed the microphone to a girl. He couldāve put a woman and a man at the front. He couldāve let a woman grope him. He couldāve worn different shorts. He couldāve looked less gay. But no ā in fact, he did the complete opposite. Because guess what, HEāS GAY PETRA!

Another Promo on for Louis Tomlinson tickets!
For the USA/Canada leg, there is currently a āSpecial Concert Weekā promo happening on the majority of shows. Pricing ranges from 30-53.71 dollars a ticket. Promo is on from Monday May 4 to Friday May 8th (10pm local time) from what I can tell.
Shows with promos: Vancouver, Seattle, San Diego, phoenix, Fort Worth, Austin, St. Louis, independence, Chicago/Rosemount, Philadelphia, Boston, Atlanta, Orlando, Toronto, Los Angeles, Las Vegas. (I hope I didnāt miss any! Note the Montreal show still has the 30 dollar summer of Live promo happening until the end of the day today).
I think Louis and his team are really trying to move some tickets as a number of shows have a lot of inventory available.
If you have been waiting to buy, itās a great time to consider locking in and to spread the word more broadly as this gives a chance for more casual fans to decide to come to a show.
Some details and a few examples below the cut.

"kids are so whiny and annoying" you want them to be dependent on adults and obedient and silent and convenient but also independent and not needing anything but also without any sense of autonomy and agency but also going outside and getting off their damn phones but also staying inside so they don't get into trouble but also recognizing they have it good but also that the new generation is mindless and stupid but also just say what they want in clear and emotionally mature words but also stop asking for things AND you want them to not be pissy about it? get real
